I'd like to visit the Pittsburgh Zoo this year. It's not far from the Westin, and I want to get some good photos of the animals there. I'll be in Pittsburgh on the Wednesday before the convention starts, but the parking issues at the hotel will likely keep my car parked for the duration. Also, I spoke to someone at the Westin, and she stated that the hotel didn't offer shuttle service to the zoo.

Would anyone be interested in coordinating a trip to the Pittsburgh Zoo, sometime between Wednesday and Monday? I can try to help with that in some way, but I certainly won't be able to drive. Also, I'd like to go sometime on Wednesday or Thursday (weather permitting, of course); I'll be busy with con things after it begins.

And this is a long shot (and probably was discussed/attempted), but... maybe the zoo trip can be placed into the programming schedule, somehow (like the charity visit at AC '09)?

If this doesn't work out, then I do have other options. I could just go on Monday, after I check out (and drive myself). Still, it would be at least a bit more interesting if a couple other con attendees (photographers?) were there.

Snowie and I are planning on going to the zoo again this year. We went last year and had a lot of fun. We drove there last year and didn't have a problem with parking and will drive up again this year. We were planning on going on Wednesday morning this year as we volunteer Wednesday afternoon and Thursday at the con. Definitely be fun going with some other furs this year.

Hello all,

I'm Tim with the Pittsburgh Zoo.

If you have a group of 15 or more, you can get a group discount (and the organizer gets in free). Details are here: http://www.pittsburghzoo.org/PlanYourVisit/HoursandAdmissions/GroupRates

Also, while we would love to have you visit while you're in town, we can't admit people in full costume. Past experience has shown us that it freaks out some of the animals. Tails are okay, though.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info.

Organizing the trip for 15 con attendees would be a challenge, to say the least. Still, the discount is something to consider.

I'm actually planning on going Wednesday or Thursday depending on the greyhounds schedule. They say 12:05 arrival time, but might as well say seven at night with those guys, anyway I know that myself and my group of five others are planning on going no matter what day. If we most likely can get a group of 15 or more people the way it's going.
