Hotel rooms getting scarce
Both the Westin and the Courtyard are full. The Omni is about 75% full and rooms are going fast. We have a bigger block at the Doubletree which still has about 50% of its rooms free.
You still have time to make your room reservations, but we suggest that you not procrastinate. When these hotels are full, there's no guarantee that we'll find any more rooms for you that are as close or as affordable.
Possibly Odd Duck Question but what is the room tax in Pitt? I want to try and pay for my room at the Omni with my tax refund.
From the Hotel FAQ:
What are the taxes on hotel rooms?
The taxes on hotel rooms are:
6% Pennsylvania sales tax
1% Allegheny County sales tax
7% "Occupancy" tax
This comes to 14% in total. So if your room rate is $115/night, the bill would come to $131 per night after taxes are added in. Please keep this in mind if you are sharing a room.

The rates I posted there were exact for the Courtyard and I've been told that they were apparently correct for the Omni as well.
Also note that QUAD rooms fill up before KING rooms for the obvious reason-
more people want QUAD rooms so they can share the room, and share the cost,
thus saving money.
So, if there ARE quad rooms left, there aren't so many in the Doubletree,
and there's even fewer left at the Omni (if any.)
Still, I think it's impressive that there's any rooms left at the
convention rate for the stragglers.
I don't know how i did it, but i somehow got a room at the westin last night, although friday through sunday....still trying to see about thursday night though
Luck?
I am quite surprised how fast the rooms went, me thinks its gonna make for a very busy AC this year, moreso than the previous years.
I'd say the main reason why the rooms went so fast was due to the hotel blocks opening later, with the later opening there was probably a higher number of people that really knew that they were able to attend.
None the less, with the Con having four hotels this year and being pretty full...I have to agree this might be a pretty busy year. (Busy for us, though still tiny compared to major events such as Comicon.)

And this is why we where on the phone 5 mins before 9 when the westin opened up its room to us.
oh, uncle Kage, we got more jolly ranchers for ya
