Second Life Panel?
Question, before I pitch this panel Idea...
Is there one?
I don't mean one where a developer just shows off builds... but one where very experienced furs could try to introduce new members, teach neat tricks to long time residents, see what SL furry culture is like, see a pie slice of different residents and hear their stories and experiences, and where you could finally see the people behind the avatar.
Is there this sort of thing this year?
If not, would anyone be interested in perhaps planning said panel? ( i know its getting Super late for that)
The deadline for submitting panels has passed I believe, though you may still be able to finagle your way in if you beg nicely (I don't know how strict they are!)
Even if you can't make an official panel, though, an SL meetup in the zoo could still be organized. :]
As I recall, we did have an SL panel in 2006 and 2007; there first one really was just "Here's Second Life and what you can do" projected on a huge screen, along with some folks doing silly things in the audience and going "Oh! hey I know you." (I couldn't make it to the second one.) It was pleasant enough, if much more social, and mostly enjoyable for SL projected onto a 10-foot-tall screen. Finally, Northstar in life size!
I suppose I could Step up to it,
Ill draw up a synopsis and get it sent in then.
Please contact me at at your first available opportunity and we can get this set up. :>
Whatever you write up please, whatever you do don't let it be like the panel that was at Further Confusion.
What do you mean?
They had two panels. One for regular and one for "adult".
They wound up going into the adult part about half an hour into the regular one and spent the entirety of the second panel going around their sex dungeon and showing different poseballs and what positions they did.
Lovely.
Yeah thats a little warped...
It's supposed to be a meet and greet. Nothing more, for now.
I'd be down for a meet and greet. Be fun to see how folks got into SL. I remember co-hosting the first SL pannel at a furry con (to the best of my knowlage) back at FC 05 with Doodles and 2 friends. The room was packed and people were thrilled...over itm
And damn it'd be nice to just met folks in the flesh, finnaly.
I'd be happy to help. I'm a furry mentor iSL. Who should we contact? Meybe we should set up a group for it iSL and have everybody meet and plan there?
BTW: I'm planning on having an Ice Cream party for the Second Lifers at the con. Not sure yet date or time (and don't have my room number yet
but will post more info as we get closer to the con.
Maybe you could piggy-back the Second Life panel on to the Half-Life panel?
For a Half-a-Second panel?
If we were to hold a panel, I'd have furs iSL do a lot of the talking. we'd probably tour some of the furry spaces, a club or two, a furry RP SIM (being sure to have it arranged to be caught in a battle) an anime-based SIM and maybe a tour of an AV mall.
No more than 15-30 mins with rest of the time a question and answer between audience and iSL panel of furries. maybe panelists will be both iRL and iSL.
I think that would be more interesting to more of the audience that building and posballs.
so, too late to beg?
Thank you to all that atteneded, and to the person who donated their laptop for the panel.
I would call this a shaky success for the reason of sheer numbers. There just wasn't enough time for everyone, and I suppose it did get boring for some. I did not expect to get hit by over thirty or so folks, we got nearly hundred different people. We averaged around a constant 50.
The feed back that I got this year is to make this more sorted, as in grouping content creators together, and giving people less time to speak up front so everyone has a chance. Also not allwing Ordo to take over the damn pannel.
1Hump I'd be glad to have you help next year, and hopefully because of the sucess of this panel and
Anthrcon Staff itself on an in-world project if the team is interested.
Please provide further feed back, I would also like to have some co hosts next year.
Since I am only a content creator, I would like folks who are more experienced in other areas as in
Viewer Developers, RPers, Sim owners, etc.
The person that donated their Laptop with broadband was StrRedWolf.
Next year if you plan to host a simular panel, since we have no wifi, I recommend the following:
People that want to speak set it up ahead of time. I don't mind listening to someone that is prepared to talk on a topic. I think most of us were ill prepared to speak about ourselves and what we do, and others used it to stroke their egos as well. Regardless, it is up to the moderator to prescreen this discussion. Some of the dicussion could have easily run into the realm of mature or adult, which you do not want to happen when minors play SL as well. If you expect input during the show you don't know what you'll get, if you get it before hand you can control it a little bettler
Pictures and examples of characters, builds, etc. which could be uploaded onto a presentation laptop or printed out and held by the owner. This would show off their skill may be an adequate way for people to know what people do without having them awkwardly explain it.
A broadband card is prefered, but not always available. I would either coordinate with someone to borrow a card or expect to host a series of slides.
Try and seperate a couple groups of builders, texturers, scripters, sculpters, and possibly owners with their own tags. What I was hoping to do with this panel was network with a few texture designers, but it was so hard to tell who was who and who had the necessary skill. A badge or a ribbon may have helped.
Thats my take on the whole thing. It had issues and you did give it a good effort, the panel just needed more structure. Thank you for hosting the Panel
Theres a reason for lack of structure, I didnt know the panel got approved until two days before the con. I had an 'oh fuck' moment.
Im preparing presentations for next year already, no worries there.
That was my fault, my apologies. I've already noted communication as an area I need to improve and will be doing so this year, so expect better confirmation discussions!
Guy who donated laptop for a while here. It was a bit of a mess, yes.
I'm half tempted to put an OpenSim grid on a Beagleboard or a Pogoplug v1, see how small a CPU can run a decent grid.
Quote Corri : "Also not allwing Ordo to take over the damn pannel"
please do, i was one of them and i can only express how embarrassing it was for me to be standing with them as they spewed propaganda...
I actually went to Aryte and told him that im resigning the next morning...

Right now I am not seeing a Second Life panel. If someone is interested, we would need for them to contact programming quickly so that we can get that set up.
