I am looking for transportation from Kalamazoo, MI, and back. Would prefer to arrive at AC Thursday, and leave Monday. Gas/Tolls are no problem. I'd really like to avoid the whole '12 hour bus funk' issue I've had the last four years. |

im from the grand rapids area, and i plan on taking the train. fare is 134 bucks from chicago, much cheaper than a drive. if you are interested in riding with down to chicago to the amtrak station id be more than willing to bring you along. what are you plans for a room when you get there? it would be even more convenient to setup a room share as well

I actually already have a room set up, and if I am going to use mass transit, Greyhound is a tad cheaper, about 85-90 dollars round trip from the Kalamazoo depot. I would rather drive the distance, as it would allow for a reasonable arrival time, as well as departure.
However, the cost variance is within my budget, so let me check on the Amtrak schedules. If they fall within reasonable times, I would definatly consider the trip to Chicago. I will let you know.

*nods* I would, if i were you. Greyhound may be cheaper, but there's a reason why it is.
My experience of greyhound is that it's less crowded (i can almost always secure a pair of seats together to myself), cleaner, comfortable enough to sleep on at least some (i don't sleep well if'n i can't get horizontal), more environmentally friendly, and steady enough that i can stretch my legs whenever i want to. Plus the passengers are more peaceable; my greyhound trips always seem to include a man 20 years my senior who can't tell the difference between a bus and a singles' bar. :rollseyesandwrysmiles:
I've actually gotten to the point where i prefer the train over a ride in someone's car, when i can afford it. Last year, the train home had its own little cadre of furries, so it was like taking the gather home with me. :=8)

*giggles*
Probably not. You're clean, you're comparatively grease-free, and you speak english fluently. That doesn't fit the description of the folks i've met. *wrygrin*
