Well everyone, despite the fact that Anthrocoon and that Bear guy tend to do most of the work regarding this, I feel it is my obligation to begin discussing the annual trip to Buca di Beppo. Granted, we won't really be able to decide when we're going until we have a time for Kage Storytime and 2, but we need to raise interest! Last year we had a great turnout, with something like 14. And we're always looking for more.

For those who don't know, Buca di Beppo is a marvelous italian restaurant, which is a many many year tradition for a lot of us at AC.

I'll link it here just because that's easiest for me to do, and you can check it out for yourselves.

Hey, Scorch. Missed it last year due to the train coming in an hour late. Definitely interested as long as I can get in on time this year.

Joatmon! Good to hear from you.
We had a good time last year, or at least I did. I think the rest of us did, and we had a good sized group.

It's always interesting.

But I do hope you can make it this year.

i went last year. I would love to head over there thursday night again after picking up my badge if we have a dinner that night. or maybe a sunday night dinner after the con. I would most likely have 2 female local (to me in Az) furs who would be tagging along as well possibly.I also owe a west virgina fur mythicfox a meal so I`d have him tag along most like;y as well.

Just a reminder that this exists.
We had a great turnout last year, hope that interest is similarly stirred this one, and we can have a huge dinner party at Bucca, filled with Italian food and furry chat.

I'll consider it. Depends on how expensive it is, and what time it'll be.

Time is still a question, but the meals usually range from.. 12-16$ per person once the check's finally divvied up.

Being an italian food lover, I could see this being a possibility for me and My husband. I could probably even Convince Balaa and Bagheera to join us as we had alot of trouble last year finding a good place to eat.

This year would be tough for me to organize/take part in (depends on when it is, though) as I'm not getting into
Pitt. till early afternoon on Friday (flying out early
Monday). If it's Sunday night I could prob make it (I'm
changing hotels that night but can swing it). On Thu?
Nope, I'm still in Mass.

Friday or Sat night would be OK
for me though I'd hope to not miss Story Hour, Masquerade,
etc...figure on about an hour to eat. I could provide a ride
and this year I promise no wrong turns*! (One route may be: go out through the parking garage onto
Ft. Duquesne Blvd, along the river...then take I-279 to the exit that says station square. Other option is the Smithfield St bridge.

*--I was hoping to do a dry run last year but the Pirates game ran late...long story. Some furs walked it , across
the Smithfield St bridge, and made it before I did!
1.2 miles or so...

I was one of the folks that walked. Even after getting lost we still made it first. Smiling It's not a bad walk, it is like 1.2 miles and pretty easy walking, plus it helps you work off some of the Bucca food.

This year I think I'll make the reservation, so we don't have 10 furs waiting because no one knows Anthrocoon's last name.

AnthroCoon's picture

Yes if you could make the reservation, in your name,
that would be great! Nobody knew my last name eh! It's Nelson for the record... Smiling

Pierce.
But I'll be there, and early.

We gotta have you there, though, because I mean you're like half the reason it started, right? You and Joatmon?

Not just us, but with the move to Pitts, quite a few of the regulars couldn't make it. My having to take the train now is an example of the problems. Still, we welcome any new furs that care to help keep this tradition going. It's a good way for newbies to talk to us oldtimers for advice, and make new friends.

Who says you have to make reservations using your real name? I've begun using the name Katt for that, as my real name is complicated to spell. As long as you give the same name in person as when you phone, you could tell them anything.

Just made my reservations for the train trip. I'll be damned if they didn't go and change the schedule again! I won't be getting to Pitts until after 8PM on Thurs. Hopefully, we will set a date for Fri or Sat. Even Sun after the con would be good.

Bucca del Beppo is awesome. And if you get something where the leftovers can be eaten cold, their giant serving sizes will keep you going for another three days.

I'd love to go with, but we won't know work schedules until a few days before the con.

Scorch's picture

ALL RIGHT! It's con time, and looking at the schedule, the time I've chosen for the Bucca trip is Friday at 6:00 PM!

Those who wish to walk, we'll depart the lobby around 5:45 PM and begin assembling at 5:30.

This should have us finished and back in enough time to get seated for 2's Rant.

Reservations will be made for 10 people, seeing as I don't have a big contingent of people breaking down the door to go.

AnthroCoon's picture

I'll try to make it. I won't get to the Con till today (Fri)
in early afternoon (flying in, then via rental car); to be honest I
may wind up hoofing it myself with everyone because I'd
prob. get lost again (sigh...last year!) if I tried to drive!
If it only takes 15-min or so, I'll find you guys at 5:30
or so.

We had a great time this yr! Suggestion for next yr: take
trolley. It's quicker (though there's a short wait for
the train) and some of us may not want to walk all that far,
esp. if we're not in the best of shape.
What happened is that I went to that incline just opposite Buca last night...I paid my $2.25 for round trip and found that I got a transfer (when I asked) which would allow me
on the train for free (one trip). Basically there's a
station right next to the incline, Station Sq., and you
head for any downtown-headed train. A couple stops
later and you're back at the intersection of Wood St.
and Liberty Ave.

So if anyone wanted to go to Buca by way of the trolley/
train:
--Walk on Liberty Ave. to intersection of Wood St.
just a few blocks away (opp. the CVS, I think). Take
the train outbound...and get off at Station Sq.
And you're there! The train trip is maybe 5 minutes...
