The Zoo and the Lobby
Hi all,
Just wanted to provide a helpful hint to folks.
The days leading up to Anthrocon, especially Thursday, are very hectic days for the Westin. They will be having large numbers of people checking in and out of the hotel, and there will be a large amount of luggage that will be moving through the lobby.
Now Anthrocon knows that the lobby is not very large, and as such, has created a space just for you to hang out in and talk to friends. The "Zoo" is located on the third floor of the Westin. We actually have the entire 3rd floor available on Thursday which includes all three sections of the Allegheny ballroom as well as the pre-function space outside the ballroom. This room will have tables and chairs for you to sit, relax, and get ready to enjoy the convention.
As the hotel wishes to keep the lobby clear for guests moving in and out, it's recommended that everyone utilize the Zoo as a gathering place. It's far larger than the lobby, and won't inconvenience any other hotel guests who may be checking in or departing, and will also allow thsoe attempting to enter the "Fish Market Restaurant" to do so with as little of a hassle as possible.
Please keep the Zoo in mind when you want to get together with friends. It will help keep the hotel happy, and gives you lots of space in which to mingle and relax in.

The Zoo was actually open on Wednesday before the con last year. Is that gonna be the case again this year?
Not that it really matters to know this far in advance.. I guess those of us who are there on Wednesday will find out then. I'm just curious.
I see the forum topic and for some reason I think of the short story: "The Lady or the Tiger".
But thinking back on this issue, Monday is also a hectic day at the Weston with lots of people checking in and out, lots of furries trying to catch up with others, etc. Any chance the Zoo could be extended until Monday noon?

[Damn, now I can't get the idea of a "furry" version of that story out of my head!]
It has been open until noon Monday in previous years; in 2009 we had to close it Sunday evening. It is very dependent upon the groups coming in after us and their needs for the space.
AC has been very good with this.
When it's been impossible to get the rooms we use as a Zoo for Wednesday,
AC has arranged with the Westin for ANOTHER room to be available for us
as a TEMPORARY Zoo for Wednesday evening, so we have a place to relax,
hang out, and entertain ourselves with various G and PG activities.
So, I'd be deeply shocked if at least one room wasn't assigned for a
temporary Zoo Wednesday evening.
Just remember, the hotel has asked that we not let people hang out in the lobby. If you're meeting up with people to then head out somewhere, then that's fine. If you're just hanging out to talk to people please move on up to third floor to The Zoo, or even the sitting area on the second floor. And if your fine security staff comes by and asks to you to migrate, please do.
We're trying hard to keep the hotel very happy with us.
