Renting a fursuit?
Hi. This is my first con. I'd like to try a fursuit, but not really ready to shell out $500-$1000 for one. Is there any way to rent a suit for a day or two?
Generally speaking, people own their own fursuits of their own Fursonas, or specific characters; while on occasion a fursuit might be lent to a friend, I've yet to hear of anyone offering a fursuit rental. In addition, most fursuits are fairly tailored for a specific body size and type, and will fit poorly on a person it was not designed for without tailoring. That sort of rental would have to be performed by a dealer, due to PA tax laws.
It's an interesting notion; perhaps one year an enterprising soul might offer fursuit rentals by the hour. But they'd have to invest considerably up-front in suits in enough sizes and species to draw interest, and figure out proper methods to sanitize and de-odor a suit between rentals. I don't think you'll find one this year, though.

Like Chiaroscuro said, you might be able to find a friend that would lend one to you, but to my knowledge there are no rentals.
And don't forget, only about 1/5 of attendees wear suits at all. Its only a small part of the wonderment that is Anthrocon.
Yes, but it is the most awesome 1/5 of attendees that do it
Amen :]
Funny, i've never found any correlation between awesomeness and fursuiting. I think my favorite part about the fursuiters is that they often make it easier for folks like me to avoid the cameras.
And on the same note, the costumes that costume rental stores carry rarely have those qualities which are considered "fursuit". They are mostly mascots, (large heads), moton picture knock-offs and Holoween variety.
I saw someone once attend a furry con with one of those $100 Halloween chicken costumes:

It's cheap and not bad quality, and may be worth a try for your first fursuiting experience. :3
Plus it gives you the perfect excuse to do the Funky Chicken! XD
Then again,
a lot of the people that DO wear a fursuit
start off with a head and gloves,
try those out, THEN look into an entire fursuit.
Me,
I say that if wearing fur in 85-degree weather is your thing,
and you can spare $1000 for it, then more power to you!
I'll be in a t-shirt, sipping a drink in the shade.
Its a bandwagon now :3

Probably not. People generally don't like to share their fursuits. And for good reason. Those things can get pretty sweaty.
