Hi, I am not very popular in this fandom but oh well. Places you would normaly catch me is on the Furry Army of Doom (I am a member), FurryNet IRC, Tapestries MUD, and SecondLife at that YiffyClub thing. As you can see, I also have no shame, and I am above 18 year of age. I plan on staying at the Omni and traveling via Amtrack. If I can crash at someone's room, I am willing to pay part of it. Here are a few questions and statements of mine: -- For those of you who have used Amtrack, what is it like? I reserached it much but I want to cover my hind as much as possible. -- I do not mind Fursuiters, but is it ok to be like "Er, I do not feel like playing?" I mean sometimes I feel odd around anyone in a cosplay/suit, its not that I hate the idea but I do not want to send the wrong message. -- Is it possible to install a wireless connection in the Internet Room, or dose the room normally have one? That is really all I can think of now. I might have more as the months trudge on. |

Amtrak is a pretty sane way to travel. No worries about the TSA searching you, you just show your ticket and get on the train. If you travel business class, you even get free drinks from the snack bar. You can get up and walk around the train at any point during the trip.
The Westin hotel has free wireless connections, and paid wired connections. The only thing we ask is that people refrain from using bandwidth-heavy apps, such as Second Life or WoW.

permalinkI Amtrak'ed it last year, and that's my new favourite way to
travel. It's a lot slower than flying, but I'll take the ease
of boarding over airports anyday. Best of all, I have one
train that takes me to AC (it starts at my station, and ends
at Pittsburgh), and the station is as much as 3 blocks from
the Westin.
If you've taken a plane before, you'll find the coach seats
on Amtrak are more comfortable. You'll have to buy food, but
there's a decent selection. (Of course, nowadays, coach flyers
have to buy food, too.) The view is often better than from
the plane, too.
If you've taken a bus before, you'll find the train superior
in every way. Clean bathroom, food on the train, and chairs
you can lean back and sleep in, and no crowding with the
person next to you.
Some trains also have a "dinner car", which is even better
than the standard "snack bar."

permalinkFursuiters?
They'll leave you alone if you leave them alone.
It's not like they can see and move freely-the suit-head
cuts visibility.
If they caused any problems, you can flag down a passing
Dorsai (the professional Con Security), and they will handle
him/her in the professional manner for which they are rightly
famed. (They will kick him/her down the escalator, then
take out the tasers and nightsticks. Or they'll use a stern
lecture. One of the two.)
Unless I'm taking pictures or attending a fursuit-themed
event, I consider fursuiters to be BACKGROUND for the event.
And they're required to behave in public- read the AC
FAQ and Standards of Conduct.
Frankly, they have more to worry about other people-who can
sneak up on them while in their "blind spot."

*nodnods* I'm pretty fond of trains myself, when i have the time to take one.
The folks are the same as you might find on the average plane, so your privacy is respected and everything is nice and clean; when i took buses, i always had to dress in my frumpiest and look unfriendly just to chase off the inevitable aging creep who doesn't understand the difference between a greyhound bus and a singles bar.
Plus, the crowd is, in my experience, almost always much lighter; i've only once ridden a train that didn't afford me 2 or 3 seats in a row to myself. I don't sleep well in planes or cars, but i've gotten some surprisingly good naps on trains (with a little finagling).
Next time i go to AC, i'm almost certainly taking the amtrak.
