Well here it is, the SSFIV Tourney info and sign-ups! Here you will find all of the relevant information about the tournament, rules, etc. Also will be conducting sign-ups both before and during the convention. If you want to enter and know for a fact you can make it, send an email to me at . Please include your name, if you are bringing a personal controller (and for what system), and a contact number so we can get ahold of you if your name is called to play and you are not present. You'll be added to the list and it will make getting the bracket set up much easier. Without further ado, here are the rules:

Game: Super Street Fighter IV

System: PS3 AND 360 (this is in the interest of making the tournament progress more swift. We wouldn't mind running it on a single system, but we will need some folks to help with equipment if they can. Bringing in your system and a copy of the game will be greatly appreciated. Controllers are also a plus!)

Controllers: Standard controllers will be provided for both systems as well as a limited supply or arcade-style controllers. Players are both allowed and encouraged to bring their own controllers if they please.

Tournament Style: Standard Double Elimination Bracket Format. Depending on number of players, the players will be divided into 8 person "pools" and play. Double Elimination still applies here. Losers will be filtered down into a losers bracket, while winners will move to a Winners bracket. Losers of the losers bracket are eliminated from the tournament. Losers of the winners bracket will filter into their own losers bracket. The final match is a winner-takes-all scenario. Even if you go through the tournament with no losses, losing a best out of 3 match here means you lose.

Character Select: Both players will sit down and choose their character and ultra combo. At anytime before, a player may request a double-blind selection. The requesting character will tell the judge which character they will choose and the ultra combo. The other player will then pick theirs in the game. Player 1 must stick with his choice told to the judge.

Prizes: As of right now, prizes for 2nd and 3rd place (if there is going to be any) are undecided. Prize for 1st place will be a full colored single-character commission from non other than LizardBeth, creator of the webcomic Broken Plot Device!

Other Rules:
- A match consists of best out of 3 rounds.
- A game consists of best out of 3 matches.
- Player-brought controllers are allowed, however, turbo and macro functions are not. If you're caught using such functions, you forfeit the match.
- Players are responsible for their own control settings. You cannot pause mid game to change your controls. Doing so will cost you the match. Players may agree to jump into a game to set their controls, however, as long as it is restarted.
- While special arcade controllers are provided, we have a limited supply of them and cannot always guarantee one will be available for use.
- If you bring your own controller, we will make every attempt to get you on a system that supports that controller (PS3 or X360) or to give you a controller that is as similar to it on the other system as possible. However, as we get closer to the finals, we make no promises.
- Names will be called to play. If you are called and do not show up at your station, we will wait 1 minute for you (and attempt to call if you leave us a contact number). After that minute, if you are still not present, you forfeit the game. This will put a loss on your record, meaning if you already have a loss, you are eliminated.

That's about all I have for now. If you have any questions regarding rules, feel free to reply here. Thanks, and see you at AC!

Oh hey concerning the rules.

I think the way you're doing character select should be a little different to be more in line with how most tourneys are run. I have a bit of experience with fighting game tourneys and just want to add some input. I'm not trying to high jack anything here, but have a few suggestions.

First, the ultra combo pick shouldn't entirely a blind pick. Ultra combos are chosen to be matchup specific. For example: What good is using Hakan's Ultra 2 in a match versus a character who never really leaves the ground? It'd be an unfair disadvantage since he'd essentially be ultra-less for an entire match when he'd be better served to have his Ultra 1.

I think it's supposed to be like, if there is a blind select asked for, you blind select characters. Then both players choose their ultra in game. Or if someone requested everything be a blind select. You choose characters blindly. Then both players see the other character their opponent chose, then they blind select ultra I or II, after seeing the matchup. This would work exactly as it does when you play Online. You don't see your opponents character until you've chosen yours. And you don't see your opponents ultra until after you've chosen yours.

Second, unless I missed it, you forgot to include that the winner of a match, can not change his character, but the loser can. And then this is how ultra select works in that case:

"We are changing the ultra rule in regards to winning a match. The winner will be allowed to change the ultra, but has to pick his ultra before the loser has to pick theirs. This will not affect a blind pick selection for game 1 of a set. Blind is still character and ultra blind off the bat."

EX: Player 1 wants a blind pick. Things go as posted above for character selection. Then both players chose their ultra in game. Player 2 wins the first match, Player 1 switches characters. Player 2 feels like his ultra is useless in the new matchup, can not change his character, but can change his ultra combo choice. Then Player 1 chooses his ultra combo and the next match of the set begins.

Sorry to be all tournament super serious about this, but it'll help things run easier. You don't have to adopt this, but IMHO this is how most tourneys run now and I find people will appreciate the format as it leads to things being fair and still guards against "counter picking".

edit: I also just read that the Person who wins winners finals, only needs to lose once in Grand Finals to be eliminated and get second place. I think that's pretty unfair to someone who just had a perfect streak through the bracket. That's the advantage of winning perfectly until grand finales, it's like having 2 lives left while your opponent already spent 1 life earlier on.

If you're concerned about time, just make grand finals a best of 3 like everything else, but make it so if the Losers bracket champ beats the Winners bracket champ, then he has to win another set. The whole idea of a "double elimination" tournament is it takes "double" to get eliminated. No sense in breaking the rule just for the final match. :x I'm sure no one will mind and I'll bring a ps3 + PS3 TE and some pads to help things go faster! :3

Hey man, thanks for the suggestions, and you're probably right. I'm gonna have a sign-up sheet printed with the full rules to have in the game room before the tourney starts and I'll make the corrections/additions on there.

Also, if you can supply us with a pair of TEs and a PS3 + game, that would most certainly rock! I'll be in the game room around 7pm on thursday to get my gear checked in and ready, so if I can meet ya there, that would be cool. Thanks again!
