I've decided that its' come down between doing a panel on Advanced Fursuit techniques, or Alternative Medicine. The former woudl run about an hour, to an hour and a half, the latter would run upwards of 2 hours. (I'm a woman of many talents Eye-wink)
Which would people prefer?
While fursuiting is more relevant to the fandom, alternative medicine would be more enjoyable to host, and is relevant to real life, all the time, soo..
Would anyone attend an alternative medicine panel(It would cover topics and have visual examples/techniques for massage, acupuncture, herbology, spinal health, etc..)?

Consider this scenario and then ask yourself if an alternative medicine panel is really a good idea:

Bob the Furry goes to AnthroCon and attends an Alternative Medicine panel. He excitedly listens to everything that's said and commits your every word to memory. Except his memory isn't that good. When he goes home, he gets a terrible case of con-crud. The solution? Herbal remedy! He learned about that at AC! So he gathers up some various herbs and makes them into a tea, and lands himself in the hospital cause he didn't listen to you when you said "THESE HERBS GOOD, THOSE HERBS BAD!."

In a perfect world, it's his own fault for being stupid. However, Bob the Furry is very unhappy now, and wants to sue someone. His two choices? You or AnthroCon.

In short, I think any panels having to do with medicine are a bad idea unless you're a medical professional licensed to practice in the state of Pennsylvania. And even then I wouldn't do it.

I would agree here. Alternative medicine isn't really germane to the spirit or topics of the convention, and it opens up liabilities that the staff would not want to be exposed to.

While in my assessment of what I would have to present, I should have been more thorough- of course I wouldn't present anything anyone could actually do(Aside from some easy massage techniques). It would have reolved more around theory of medicine than application. But I can understand the concern, so I'll forego it, but am always open to anyone interested in chatting about it Smiling

I may be interested in an alt. medicine discussion one night with you...maybe over dinner or something? While it would be interesting to have a panel on this, I agree with the others that it would be a liability. Common sense is not so common anymore.
