ravefur panel?
not exactly one of the rarest branches of the fandom, but certainly an interesting one. I just think it'd be a good idea to have one, considering how hard it is to see the other person's face in the dim light of strobe and glowsticks or make conversation over the sound of blasting techno and the crowd's frenzy. it'd probably be the only acceptable environment for my stereo
That would be the dances.
i thought about that, but like i said before, it's really hard to perform any sort of communication(save body language) during a rave.
Honestly, I've never had a problem speaking to people I'm with at a club, and the sound system is focused enough in one area at AC that communication with other folks at the dances is no problem. On the stage when I'm playing I have no problem chatting with the other DJs and on the floor I have no trouble talking to folks. Frankly, I don't see what the point of meeting up with folks who like EDM in a quiet room is.
While Giza and Protocollie have been very polite, I will be less so. A Furry Raver panel might in fact be permitted if someone suggests it in a future year and makes all the appropriate arrangements. What will probably not happen is that loud music would be permitted. Why? It would turn into a mini-dance and socialization would be as difficult as it is at the scheduled dances. The sound would also almost certainly carry through and impact any other panel in the locale. (I once went to a multiplex movie place many years ago: watching a comedy was made somewhat funnier by hearing Damnation Alley coming through the walls with people yelling about killer cockroaches...)
In short: Raver panel to meet, talk and socialize: Good Idea. Raver panel to play music: not as Good an Idea.
Yeah, seriously. I like that you touched on my most important concern:
People should not be carrying around their own sound systems and imposing their music on other folks. The dances, open mic, and musical performances are one thing. Seriously though, in areas where people are not going expecting to have music blasted at them, don't do it. It's like my biggest pet peeve ever and I know plenty of people share that feeling.
If you really want to play your music for everyone that bad, either audition for the dances or go to open mic and play something.
Especially if you're going to be playing "Never Gonna Give You Up" on your portable stereo.
a rave at anthrocon? that would be awesome
and fursuits lit up by glowsticks... twice as awesome
It's a furry con, we don't do raves, but our dances are still pretty awesome :]
I've encountered raver furs whose AC packing list consists of the following:
1) whatever clothing they wear on the drive up
2) glow sticks for the rave
3) a big bag of drugs
I wouldn't touch that panel with a ten foot pole. No offense.
And once again, I've never gotten complaints from playing a small portable stereo/MP3 setup at Anthrocon. Maybe it's because I don't blare loud music near people who don't want to hear it, maybe it's because I don't listen to horrible overplayed music. Just use tact; stay in a group of people who actually want to hear what you want to play, and if something else is going on, keep the volume at a minimum/acceptable level.
Maybe other people are too polite to impose what they want on you and are simply hoping that you'll return the favor. :]
I always use earphones/earbuds. If people heard the music I'm listening to, they'd think I was crazy. Well, crazier.
"We'll remember you forever, Eddie..."
There could be that (not counting the times people have asked if I had certain bands/songs, and obliged their request), or that most of the time I'm playing music for small groups of people who actually want to listen to it, either outside of the hotel/convention center, or in areas that aren't disturbing anything else.
Trust me, I love music, introducing others to groups/artists they otherwise wouldn't know about, providing music for small get-togethers. I'm less about pushing annoying music and more about providing atmosphere. I just don't have the knowhow to be a legitimate DJ.

It's a bit late to put that on the schedule this year.
