AnthroCon 2011
What's this, you ask? Simple...I just felt like randomly posting the notion that I might not make it to my first AC after being at the last four.
It seems the weekend for AC shifts between the last weekend of June and the first weekend of July from year to year. If that's the case next year, and it is the first weekend of July, then it's almost assured that I would be missing it.
The week I returned, the very next day I worked, my boss drops a bombshell on me saying that he's gonna get that first week of July blacklisted for time off. That means, even full time workers can't schedule their vacation time around then.
I'm not entirely sure how it's going to play out but that's how it's looking and I'm rather PO'ed about it, too. What a welcome back that is, huh?
Anyways, that's my rant...no offense 2...and it seems I'll be waiting a while to know for sure if it's July again next year. As Tom Petty said, "the waiting is the hardest part."
I. Could. Kiss. You.
What the Hell? *kisses*
You have no idea how happy you just made me. By 2013, I'm sure I won't have to worry about the dates. Especially considering the world will end by December the year before. D: lol
Thanks for the info. So very much. xoxo
Your boss sounds like a power hoarder. How can someone blacklist a specific week in the year?
Because in some businesses, July starts a new fiscal year and some personnel may be required for essential end of year actions.
Yup, one of my friends can't take the day off from work today to head up early to the Shore Leave con for this reason.
It's even more fun when you're a budget person and you have to be there to get the computers to crunch the numbers for the start of the fiscal year.
I feel for ya man. At least you aren't impacted by this for a few years.
*destroys your evil boss with magic!* Shoopis da whoopis! BAAAAAAAHHHHHH!! D:
"Brings the evil boss back to life" DO IT AGAIN! DO IT AGAIN! DO IT AGAIN!
Sounds like your boss needs an attitude adjustment, man.
I cant wait for AC2011!
I keep going from job to job because the market blows, so worst case ill just walk out if they say i cant make it
Well, no, don't do that. Just negotiate with the boss ahead of time, well in advance. Say, December or January.
If there is no way at all that he or she will give you the time off, or if the time off is then rescinded, then you walk out. You do not want to work for that company anyway.
I actually did that for my current job. I negotiated time off (vacation time) for Anthrocon, explaining that it was my volunteer work for charity.* Summer is our busiest time of year, but my boss knows that if he gives me time for Anthrocon, then I come in on my days off to help with the workload (to be compensated for during "slower" times of the year). He's a great boss.
*Nevermind that I also have a LOT of fun, eh?
Yeah man, I know for a fact that you dont want to do it like that cause once you witness that everything else around you is moving (and making ends meet) and your not, well your going to be salty and mostly at yourself. I've done this more than once thinking it was cool but i mean shit we all grow up and get smarter. put in like 3 month (at least 2) ADV.
"I'm having a hard time keeping a job and it's hard to find one, so in the event I can't go to a convention I'll just walk out of the job I have" is possibly the worst logic I have ever heard.
As for my comment on AC11' i know that im going to be prepared and hopefully i can save enough money to actually buy a suit of my own so that i can experience it, And make sure i get my own room this time before i whine up with some drama queens again, good lord i was heated.
Couldnt of said it better myself Unclekage. Of course I would take all the steps, like I said, worst case scenario ill just walk.
@Yungneptune, Are you going to build your own or pay to have one made? Id like to atleast try it out too, I'm just not sure if I'm going to like it or not, sooo I dont want to spend all the money just yet. Just wondering if your in the same boat as me..
i get money here and there. Im going to try and make a suit first and if i can't ill have someone do it for me. Oh i still need idea of what my fursona will look like I got this dude right here <<<<<<<<<<< but need more concept work but this is around what im looking for. I think we're in the same boat, so let paddle this out mane
Here is why comma usage is important:
then, i need 90 more $$$$$ to go crap [the person] who wants to give me money.
then i need 90 more $$$$$ to go, crap who wants to give me money? (This was your intended meaning, I hope haha)
then i need 90 more $$$$$ to go crap, who wants to give me money? (This one made me lol)
The cost of the flight is going to depend on a lot of variables. Where you are flying from, the airline you use, how far in advance you book your flight, etc. The best way to find out cost of a flight is to go to a few of the booking website (travelocity, expedia, orbitz or a airline website) and see what the flights are going to run you. It is going to be hard for anyone to give you a good estimate without more information.
We'd have to know where you were coming from, first. Check the sites like Orbitz, Travelocity and Kayak and they'll give you an idea of how much the flight will cost.
Good to know dates beforehand to plan ahead.
LOVE the sound of 2013's theme
I heard the airfares are going up soon, with the prices of cheese, tomatoes and green peppers...
well at least when anthrocon comes around in june, ill have 3 weeks paid vacation coming to me, but ill more or less just scheadule time off. by then ill have been on the road for aprox 6 months.
Cool. im new and that should give me enough time to make the fursuits that im making with my friend. Really, the change in the date saved me because i read that it was going to be a week after the change and that week i am heading down to FL for a Firehouse subs Convention. The new date saved me from choseing. Anyway, Im new does anyone now where in the website i can go to so i can ask some guestions about the con. It would be very helpful. Thank U.

If you look above these posts, you should see a small box with five options in it. Click Forums. On the next screen, I'd suggest picking First Time Congoers. You can then start a new topic which you could call something like "first-timer has questions about the con". List your questions below that and some of us here will try to answer them.
The most common answer you'll get will be to look to your left and read the FAQ's listed under Information.
I'll answer a few of the most common questions right now: You can wear a fursuit at any age. You can attend at any age but... if you're under 13, you must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times (not an older friend). If you're between 13 + 18, you can attend without your parents, but you'll have to get a document signed by your parents allowing you to attend. This document must be notarized. (Or, one or both of your parents could accompany you to the con and sign the document at Registration.) You must have a state-issued photo ID like a drivers license: a passport will be fine as well. The legal drinking age in Pennsylvania is 21 and the con does enforce it. Hotel rooms will cost about $150 a night: this permits four to share the room and cut the price accordingly. You must be 18 to sign for the room and room registration will open at 9:00 AM February 2, 2012. When you register for the room, a non-refundable one-night's deposit will be deducted from the credit card. This is to prevent people from grabbing rooms and then not using them.

The sceduled days for the next few years for AC is:
June 23-26, 2011 "The Anthropomorphic Institute of Magic"
June 21-24, 2012 "A Midsummer Night’s Dream"
July 4-7, 2013 "The Fast And The Furrious"
July 3-6, 2014 "TBA"
These days are fixed and won't be changing so it looks like you won't have problems until 2013.
