When is the next Anthrocon?
I like to plan ahead, and it would be nice to mark it on the calendar. That is, if there is even a date yet anyway. I really don't want to miss my first Anthrocon... and all the information I can get about the next one is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
PS: I just want to use this epic smiley.
End-PS
Not to be rude, but there was already a post with the future dates and themes recently posted. If you had done a quick search of the forums (with the handy search bar) you would have found your answer without creating a new post. :3 Just giving a heads up the next time you have a question, that may already be found on the website.
Also, welcome! Hope you enjoy the forums!
Oh, I see. My bad. I searched 3 pages but couldn't really find anything. Sorry about that.
But anyway, thanks Nicona. I am going to mark it on my calendar now.
This'll be your first Anthrocon too? Perhaps we could meet up and hang out for a spell while there! ^.^
When I read this, I was thinking, "Oh, wow, you must be southern!" And then I looked at your location, and I'll be darned!
...This was really far more worth posting in my mind when I started typing it, but all the same. "For a spell" is one of those charming southern sayings I really enjoy.
Yeah? That would be cool, that is IF I am able to make it. Money for travel and whatnot is an issue. I guess it all comes down to that in the end.
Still can't wait, though!
Also, I noticed the "for a spell" as well. I haven't heard that for ages now.
I don't say it out loud, but I do type it. I AM proud of my southern heritage, even if I'm related to a bunch of dumb rednecks. ><
I'm southwest PA born and bred, but I've always felt a bit of a Southerner at heart. I like to say "ya'll" because in our local dialect the plural for "you" is "yinz" and I just don't like the way that sounds, so I say "ya'll" instead. Also there's that awesome southern cuisine! I love me a mess of collard greens and some biscuits with sausage gravy!
Hope to see you at the con next year, Torry.
To note, we've even got a page for this! http://www.anthrocon.org/faq/date
It will get a little more obvious after we do the 2010/2011 website switch, but we're still hung over recuperating from Anthrocon 2010.
Can't wait to see that website switch, myself. I was always fond of the arcane arts...
The debriefing process was brutal.
What do you mean by that? Just out of curiosity.
After the convention, the staff get together to discuss in very serious terms how things went. Very, very seriously. Folks have been known to get incredibly sick, or not be able to find their way back to their hotel room afterwards. It's that rough.
XP I doubt it's THAT bad.
Indeed. Many of us get so well debriefed, we can't recall a thing the following day.
While I was unable to attend for a few reasons, I understand that it is a very spirited discussion.
As long as you don't get debriefed in public, I guess it's okay...
We require a very, very, VERY high level of proof before we'll consider complaints from convention-goers, and that can be pretty rough. Look out for staff members late sunday night next year, you'll see what we mean.
I hope to have a late enough flight to be able to attend at least the beginning for the "Staff Debriefing" next year, but as I don't drink Uncle Kage special "Mineral Water", I probably won't stay long.
Um, don't you have to be staff to attend?
He might be, just minus a badge. Was wondering that myself but it looks as if he does have a staff title in his signature.
Eagle's Flight is the Family Friendly programming track lead.
Heh. I dunno about you guys, but being a member of the staff of Anthrocon sounds like a lot of fun to me.
It is, but there is a lot of work involved as well.
All of it is worth it to be a part of making Anthrocon the world's largest and best furry convention.
Got to agree with EaglesFlight. It is a lot of fun being on staff but there is also more work and responsibilities. 2009 was my first year at AC and I volunteered at registration with my mate and son. This year my mate and I were staff in registration and it was great working with Chiaro and the rest of the reg staff. They are all wonderful furs and I love being able to help make Anthrocon what it is.
Absolutely; i've gotten so addicted to it, my first thought when i start thinking about going to a new con is, "Hrmmm. I wonder if they have any need for another staffer?" A lot of my closest fur friends are on staff.
One of my favorite staff bios from this past year's conbook was creature's. He works two different departments, so for his, he just put:
Hey guys, can i sleep this year? Please?
Jerks.
Maybe it was the sleep deprivation, but something about it just gave me the giggles.
Heh. I dunno about you guys, but being a member of the staff of Anthrocon sounds like a lot of fun to me.
If you're curious about it, the "gateway drug" for being constaff is volunteering, especially if you find a department you like working with and stick around it a lot. You meet a lot of great folks that way, and we're always more than happy to have more friendly, clueful volunteers come and lend a paw.
I planned on volunteering, but I'm not sure WHERE I should volunteer! ^.^'
If you are not sure where to volunteer just head to con ops and find out where they need help. That can direct you to several areas that will need help. And if you want try volunteering in different areas to see where you like working. There will be plenty of opportunities.
Will do. ^.^
God, now I'm VERY eager to go to Anthrocon! I'm so excited, I could
*EXPLODES*
Only 344 days left!
We're honestly just messing around. It's a total blast :]
I'm waiting on my official forum badge by the great and powerful Giza, but I'm the Family Friendly Track Lead under the Programming division. Which is directed by the most awesome K.P. and his first officer RB.
I kinda want to be staff myself, but I can't get there if I don't volunteer or get to go. ^.^'
Volunteering is easy, deciding where to volunteer will be the hard part. We need them everywhere.
I hope to have a late enough flight to be able to attend at least the beginning for the "Staff Debriefing" next year, but as I don't drink Uncle Kage special "Mineral Water", I probably won't stay long.
I wouldn't let that stop you. My drug of choice is caffeinated soda, and i haven't felt weird about that at the debrief. They always have a variety of substances around--even straight water and juice, i think.
I'll plan to make it, and I'll stay as long as I can.
The debriefing process was brutal.
Korbel Brut, I presume?
if i'm allowed into america, i'll be arriving a few days early and a couple days after the con and would luv to help where i can (i normally operate heavy machinary) and this will be my first time at Anthrocon AND in america YAY
i would also like to hang out and meet some of u guys and to get to know the area
I don't know why you wouldn't be allowed into the country, although I will not inquire further. Be sure to read our forum for international attendees before you make your travel plans.
Hi I'm new but have loved this for a longing time. I wood love to go to the next Anthrocon.
I probably won't make it to the next AC myself, but I am planning on '12.
By then, I might have a steady job, and enough money to go in the first place. lol
is the anthrocon at the same place every year?
We will not be moving from Pittsburgh, PA in the foreseeable future.
Anthrocon has been held at the David Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, PA since 2006. It will definitely be held there through 2014 since the convention center contracts have already been signed through that time. There has been absolutely no indication from anyone on the Anthrocon Board of Directors that moving out of Pittsburgh has even crossed their minds. The city has proven to be welcoming and gracious and believe me, that counts for a lot.
(Blast! Kage beat me by seconds...)
thank you
If you have fursuit how you keep cool in it. I found someone who put a fan in his. It looks like a good but i don't no where to put the fan.
Just keep moving. That's basically the only thing I've found that worked. I've seen fans, I've also seen these cooling vests that one guy was selling at AC, but you pretty much just need to accept that you're not going to stay cool and drink lots of water.
