making things clear
OK I am going to make this as short as I can cuz I just had everything down and laptop screwed up and made me lose all of what I typed >_<
SO I was wondering, I am attending next years con for certain but at the time it takes place I will not quite be 18 (by a whole 6 days I might add)
Do my parents have to come all the way across the state with me or can I go just with their permission?
That is all I can think of rite now and if I think of anything else that I feel needs clarifiacation I will ask ^^
Yup! And if you turn 18 during the con (sounds like you'll barely miss it) you can go to Reg and get your minor badge replaced with a regular badge on your birthday.
is there much differant between a minor and reg badge?
The only real difference in looks is that the minor badge will say minor on it and has a different color background behind the name to make it easy to distinguish. If you are a minor you will not be able to go into the adult section of the art show and dealers won't show or sell you any adult artwork they may have.
So as long as permission is granted by my parents They do not have to come as well?
Correct. They will not need to come with you as long as you bring a signed and notarized consent form.
Take note of the "bring" part of that sentence. We had a couple that didn't bring it with them, because they thought they only needed to fax it in ahead of time.
Please bring the original copy that was notarized with you to the con.
Yes, it should definitely be brought with you. It is a very good idea to fax a copy to the con before hand as a back up in case you loose the original on the way to the con but having the original with you will be a lot easier and quicker at registration.
Awesum! That makes things tons more simple ^^
Thank you and everyone else who has been helping me ^^
All the nice people here are definitely making anthrocon look like it's going to even more and more awesome than I was expecting XP
and I was already thinking it was going to be pretty darn awesome XP
The difference is that the minor badge is designed so that the Dorsai
(security) can quickly tell the difference. That's because the main
practical difference for the wearer is that there's a few events in
AC where minors are not invited (Adult Art auction, panels with adult
themes, etc.) There aren't many, but the Dorsai are serious about
respecting the boundaries.
They are, indeed; so is the rest of security.
The minor badges look more or less like the adult ones, except the colors are different and they say "Minor" on them. There really aren't many circumstances where it matters which one you have, but when it matters, it matters.
And as protocollie says, if you turn 18 during the con, come by registration and ask for a new badge; not only will they print you a new adult one, they'll probably sing happy birthday.
Oh, there is no 'probably'. We will very much sing "Happy Birthday" at you.
(It is indeed a free badge switch, as well. We usually have one person or so a year turn 18 during the con, but as mentioned in our FAQs, you must have the Signed and Notarized parental consent form to attend Anthrocon if you will arrive while you are still 17.)
And you can believe Chiaro knows how to use those pipes of his:

If you are not 18 at the time of the con you will need your parents permission to attend. There are 2 ways you can go about this. First is have at least one of your parents show up with you when you at registration. The other way is to print out the minor consent form - http://www.anthrocon.org/files/anthrocon/minor-consent-2010.pdf. It will need to be signed by your parents and notorized. You can then bring this form to registration and your parents will not need to be with you.
