Lookin for a friend ^^
OK so I realized something that for me... was kind of a scary thought
Sure I will be going with two of my best friends in the world...
but I have no clue about the lay of the land if you know what I mean O_o
From the videos I have watched so wishfully XP
I have concluded that the con... and pittsburgh in general is a big place for three kinda-teens
So I was hoping that there would be someone who wouldn't mind befriending this scarred little coyote XP and help me know what I am in for and hopefully actually kinda be a guid when the 2011 con takes place!
So yeah :]
I guess if I am hoping to make a friend I shouldn't be so mysterious XP
I am just a spaztic teen who has some pretty exaggerated dreams XP
Those include being a great artist (i haz a DA and FA just look up kordracon if ur curious ^^)... well known in the furry community, maybe even create a graphic novel or story of some sort!
That's the water downed versions any way XP
I do tend to be quite niave (however that is spelt O_o)
I will point out I am gay (no not hoping for "that kind" of friend O-o) but because even tho from what I understand about the con I would hate to try and befriend someone who rly rly didn't like gay ppl or wasn't comftorable around em :l
tho I am definitely not the stereotype ^^ so some friends tend to even forget I am gay XP
anyways just a friendly friendship with friends to make sure I don't have a mental break down not knowing where the heck I am when the con comes :]
And no worries no worries ^^ I get along with just about annyone!!
Kale te coyote- out
that is awesome and thanks :]
I am really hoping to show up in or with a fursuit of my own too ^^
and sounds to me like I may be a bit more worried than neccessary XP
Haha, it's okay. I had never been to Pittsburgh before, but once I knew how to get to the convention center from my hotel and back (I was staying at the Omni), I was set. Honestly, I went with people who knew the area better than I did, and I ended up away from them about 80% of the convention. I just wandered around on my own and made friends that way

It'll feel small after a little while, I promise. The convention area itself is pretty easy to navigate, and you don't need to walk further than a block or two to get to everything you need.
So I was hoping that there would be someone who wouldn't mind befriending this scarred little coyote XP and help me know what I am in for and hopefully actually kinda be a guid when the 2011 con takes place!
I'm sure plenty of folks would be glad to show you around, but the convention also has a few panels which will help you figure out what things you should see. You can either focus really deep on one particular area of the con, or take a broad sampling of all the different sorts of programming the convention has to offer. There also was, at one point, a 'mentor' program - I don't know if that still happens.
I will point out I am gay (no not hoping for "that kind" of friend O-o) but because even tho from what I understand about the con I would hate to try and befriend someone who rly rly didn't like gay ppl or wasn't comftorable around em :l
You and 50% of the people around you. Don't even worry about this, you'd find more homophobia at a pride parade than you would at AC. Furries are an accepting bunch, and Pittsburgh is very accepting of us.
anyways just a friendly friendship with friends to make sure I don't have a mental break down not knowing where the heck I am when the con comes :]
You can also easily make friends at the con! There's tons of social events, dances, gatherings for particular interests and places where you can run across all sorts of folks who'd love to talk to you. Even if you go to the con alone and not knowing anyone, you'll leave with a lot of friends if you make the effort. Promise.
Thank you :] All of this is definitely making me feel less and less nervous ^^

Whether or not you have an official or unofficial guide to the neighborhood,
the furries are pretty helpful and will freely point out stuff.
If you're staying at the Westin, say, almost everything you could want
is within a few blocks, and all in easy-to-find places.
(No matter what, take a little tour of your hotel so you know what's
in the lobby and just above it...
The bottom 3 floors of the Westin, also. It will pay off.)
Early in my AC trip, I like to go to CVS Pharmacy and pick up everything
I might need for the stay (big shampoo, big soap, soda for my room,
plastic cups, anything else I forgot to pack). That's about the furthest
distance I prefer to walk from the convention area, and it's really not
very far. (Like almost everything, it's along the one avenue stuff is on.)
Once I take care of that, I prefer to stay close to the convention center
and the Westin (unless I'm heading to a hotel further away.)
There's plenty of cheap places to eat within a short distance of them.
You'll learn where Furnando's is pretty early.
Basically, for my first AC in Pittsburgh (which was the first AC in
Pittsburgh), I took a little walk around the neighborhood when I had
a change, early on, and it paid off.

Lots of AC'ers like art, draw, and so on. You're "in your element" there.
I do tend to be quite naive (however that is spelt O_o)

Just some food for thought...
While AC'ers in general are pretty tolerant, one of the things that
tends to set off people is when something they're not comfortable
with is flaunted in front of them. What does this mean for AC?
Actually, it pretty well defines how the rules insulate you from
uncomfortable scenes. The standards of conduct for AC tend to follow
the "mall in the middle of the day" rule. That is, if it's acceptable
behavior for performing in the mall in the middle of the day, or an
outfit acceptable for the same, then generally it's fine for AC.
Outfits and behavior of every kind that don't fit that rule tend to be
what's disallowed. ANTHROCON IS FAMILY-FRIENDLY.
(Maybe you can think of Disneyland/Disneyworld/ Six Flags, and picture
what's acceptable there.) So, nobody should be performing any
behaviors in public where they could offend you, and the reverse also
applies.
Of course, since this rule of conduct is a lot stricter than is expected
in some countries outside the USA, I like to point out that tourists
should err on the side of caution. (I've said to think of us as "prudish"
in regards to what's acceptable in public, especially at AC.) So, the
only things people should really have any issues with are your BELIEFS,
IDEAS, and THOUGHTS. Since there's no "thought police", there's really
nothing to sweat so long as everyone's behaving.
Mind you, this applies to all the PUBLIC areas of the convention.
Therefore, if you want to behave differently, go to your hotel room and
lock the door. AC generally doesn't care what you do in your hotel
room so long as you don't break any laws (give alcohol to minors or
whatever), or make a lot of noise late at night.
That, of course, also means that you should think twice, then think again,
before going into someone else's hotel room. You run the risk of seeing
something you might not. (Or, depending on who's in the room and what
they're doing, something they may not want you to see...)
tl;dr version:
At AC, you're expected to behave yourself with a high level of conduct
whenever you're in public, and everyone else is expected to behave the
same. So long as each of you is behaving accordingly, nobody will have
any reason (or at worse, no excuse) to disapprove of anyone else.

I'll be your friend
AC '10 was my first con, and I should be attending it again next year (and with a partial, woo!). I don't know the "lay of the land," haha, but we can still hang out. I'll probably be in suit a majority of the time, but it'll still be fun!
I had a blast, and I know you will too, next year. From what I've heard, it just keeps getting bigger and better.
One of the reasons why I love this fandom so much is how accepting and open everyone is. It took me about a day and half to really just let lose and mingle (it took that long 'cause I was still gaping from being so overwhelmed at the grand scale of this convention). It mostly started when I asked a group of furs if I could sit with them during dinner 'cause I was by myself (the people I came with were at a nicer restaurant, and my SIL gave me money for dinner so I could grab something quickly 'cause I didn't want to miss 2's rant). They all knew each other, but they were also very welcoming and inviting with letting someone new join the group.
Oh, and on the subject of it being a year away...I'm already making plans and budgeting my money now for it next year. I want to guarantee I'm going, and the early the planning, the better of a chance I have at making sure I'll be there
