Kage on radio tonight (Tues July 27)
One of my students, Charlie, just called me and told me Kage was on the radio tonight

by the time I gave up trying to find the station on the radio and went to my computer that segment was over...does anyone have a copy or can anyone figure out how to listen to a previous segment. I can't work that out...just a listing of previous guests but not the audio is all I can find

I've had pretty good success in redirecting and deflating the ridiculous media questions, feel free to use me as ascientific and reasonalby unbiased reference if you ever need to...I even survived Shredd and Regan (local shock jocks) after the HBO furry episode on Entourage a couple years back!!
I say reasonably unbiased because I really enjoy going to Anthrocon and hanging out with furries 
!
I agree it is better they talk to you than someone with an axe to grind!!

I listened to it, and I facepalmed at her immediate implication that we only go to these conventions to wear our sofas and bump uglies. They even made it sound like it was just short of bestiality.
But then our savior came on the line, (along with the ONE person that called in after the interview), and quickly and effeciently nipped that train of thought in the bud, using all of his finesse that I had seen at the "talking to the media" panel. The host even admitted that if she WERE a furry, she'd be a cat, and a co-host said she'd be a koala bear in a heartbeat.

You're kind, but I'm hardly a savior. I'm just a guy trying to dispel a myth. Do furries have sex? Yes. Lots of people do, so I'm told. Is Furry Fandom about sex? No.
I'm just trying to point out that when a person does not understand something and thus immediately concludes that it is all about sex, it says far more about that person than it does about the issue he finds so perplexing.
Good point!!! If a whole bunch of people had not had sex, none of us would be here!

I am amused at some of the auto-transcription, including 'furry fandom' as 'very phantom'.. which I thought was worthy of Professor Chace.
I thought the worst insult in the entire thing was the transcription "Furry fan dumb". 
I looked over that once it went up, and you're right, it was truly atrocious. But in fairness, it is very hard to do voice recognition on an untrained sample. People also tend to speak quite fast on radio - I had trouble keeping up when doing my own transcription.
Anyone that doesn't have a Google Voice account with Voicemail transcription hasn't seen true Transcription errors at their best.
My favorite mis-transciption:
"Give me a ring when you get a chance" became "the urine will get soon,"
The transcript IS goofy...Sam became Dan, at least they didn't turn him into a physicist!! 
I listened to the interview. And I thought it went very well, and Uncle Kage spoke intelligently and did an excellent interview. He's a good spokesperson for "the fetish". Always enjoy his figures of speech on a potentially sensitive issue of the fandom.
I'm quite positive that Anthrocon is not all about sex. The proof? I, a smokin' hot dragon, did not so much as get hit on once the whole weekend!
As a counter point I've gotten 'offers' while in suit and had some random wolf suiter pounce me from behind and rub against me outside the headless lounge (didn't know him/her and did nothing to provoke such an assault).
While the fandom/convention isn't centered around sexuality, it is a part of it and to deny that fact would be to diminish what we enjoy as a whole. As was said in the interview, we have people of age who, while alone with people they like and away from parents, will use the opportunity to do things. With 4000+ people there it'll be happening some where, but the point is its not the focus of the event. The trouble with acknowledging this fact is you're dealing with the media who wants ratings and will twist around what you say to make it shocking or keep asking you the same "Well isn't it about sex and plushies?" question over and over until you give them the answer they are trying to get out of you.
Which was why i really appreciated kage's comment on that--that in case you missed this news flash, young adults have sex.
I go to AC regularly, and hang out with furries a lot. I can be there without the sexual element and not really feel that i'm missing anything. At the same time, i have been hit on from time to time, and i know that some furries are out there having sex and drawing spooge, and i recognize that if i were determined to find the sexual stuff, i could do it. We're geeks, not monks.
The important detail i think a lot of these shock jock types miss, and the part that they may always miss, is that furries don't generally have sex with strangers and friends at conventions s because they all have fetishes for fursuits and plushies and bestiality; they generally have sex with friends and lovers at conventions because like most people, furries like to have sex with people who make them feel comfortable.

Hey, what about us old adults??????
I'd like to think that the not-so-young adults who ask these questions already know that not-so-young adults have sex. If they don't know that (whether or not they choose to have sex themselves), i really wonder about them. 
Nothing earth-shattering. Another radio jockey who wanted to hear about the "Furry Fetish." I decided it was probably better to let her beat me up than let them find someone with an axe to grind against the fandom.
