Just a Curiousity - Dates Conflicting?

There is alot of crossover in Furry Fandom & The Gaming Fandom... at least by my experience working in both industries. I was curious on why AC 07 is the same week as Origins 2007 (the 2nd largest gaming/fandom convention is the US)? I just find this a really bad scheduling conflict. Now while AC 07 is in Pittsburgh .. Origins 2007 is less than 2hrs away in Columbus, OH... 2 conventions this close in proximity is going to hurt attendance for one of the cons... but of course the people that it hurts the most is those that want to attend both conventions... now, I know very few people on this board know who I actually am, but I will say I am very involved in the gaming communities & conventions in Ohio & I am a furr, I promote & support the furry fandom & have web community for Ohio Furries, along with a sponsoring Organization of over 400 people... I'm not just spouting off the top of my head... Just a Curiousity.... |

Hi,
One of the things that we learned about working with the Westin and especially the convention center is that many organizations plan their conventions years in advance. That being the case, since we were relatively new to the venue (2006 was our first year) the date range of July 5th through 8th in 2007 was the only block in which both the Westin and the convention center were available.
We are not thrilled about the situation either, and that is why we have selected our 2008 and 2009 dates well in advance. They are: June 26th to 29th, 2008 and July 2nd to 5th, 2009.

I do have a question, Why on a holiday. it makes it harder for those who are stuck with *ahem* [use your imagination here XD] jobs that refuse to give that timespan off. I may face problems in the future if this issue happens yearly and I really dont want to miss out on conventions for work.

The answer is the same: the 2007 dates were the only ones that the Westin and the convention center had available for us.
We did avoid that in our 2008
and 2009convention dates, though.[Edit: D'oh! I must need more coffee, seeing that I managed to misread our 2009 date. Sorry!]

well close "July 2nd to 5th, 2009" [fourth is in there heh] but I do respect the problem that is there. I hope it may be resolved in the future ^^ thanks

^.^ think of it this way, if the convention happens to have a day on the fourth of july, we get our own fireworks ^.^
Not many conventions get to sport that in their venue ^.^

Well.. as long as there are fireworks in pittsburg 2009,I'm fine :3 Usully that's my "Raid the neighborhood and party all night" night but so is AC XD

Fireworks! Im'a be there This year for the fireworks! Whee! Im getting there the 4th just so ican see them..even though last year wasnt near the 4th, there was Great fireworks from the stadium..it was great! Im even going to try to get the same room as last year
