Anthrocon is seeking volunteers for its Publications staff for the following positions: Editor, Desktop Publisher, Graphic Artist, Local Researcher, and Advertising Coordinator. These positions focus on the composition and production of a variety of publications (conbook, pocket program, dining guide, advertisements, et al.) for the 2011 convention. These are unpaid staff positions; staff members receive complimentary membership to Anthrocon 2011.
All positions work with other Publications staff to ensure that publication deadlines are met. Brief position descriptions follow:
* Editor: Review, copyedit, and proofread conbook, dining guide, marketing materials, and other publications.
* Desktop Publisher: Layout and production of various publications, particularly the pocket program, dining guide, and advertisements.
* Graphic Artist: Creation of themed artwork and graphics for use in various publications and advertising on an as-needed basis.
* Local Researcher: Updates and verifies information on dining and services near the convention site. Local to Pittsburgh, PA area a plus.
* Advertising Coordinator: Tracks advertising opportunities, including ad swaps and paid advertisements.
If interested in any of these positions, please answer the questions below and respond via e-mail to book-2011(at)anthrocon.org no later than September 16, 2010.

11. What has been your previous graphics and/or design experience? (Include URLs to samples of your work, if available.)
12. Most of the work on the conbook and related publications will be done during April–May 2011. Do you have any schedule conflicts that would prevent you from working on Anthrocon publications during that time?
I assume the existing staff can't/don't want to do them any more?
Xydexx has not listed all the currently-filled positions in Publications, which there may well be several of. Anthrocon has a great deal of returning staff every year- but some do leave after a time, or assume different roles within the convention.
Think of this like other classified ads: you only see what we're missing, not what we have already.
A little bit of all of the above. Some positions have changed slightly, some positions are new (i.e., Advertising Coordinator), some folks left to take a much-needed (and well-deserved!) break. I usually try to keep the same people on staff each year, because I know they're reliable and understand the effort required to get things done.
However, it's also good to look for new willing victims volunteers to help out.
