Hi! I have a question thats been kinda floating around in my head.....I know what my fursona looks like however, how can I customize him more to be me! I'm kinda afraid I will end up copying someones else's or doing something stupid....I have (at the moment) no artistic ability so drawing one will be out of the question but I want my fursona to be ME but I just can't think of anything. What would be a great place to start when it comes to making my fursona ME? At the moment I just picture a plain white wolf but I feel hes not yet complete.....something is missing! Thanks guys can't wait to hear those ideas!

Customize it to reflect your interests and personal preferences - colour, markings, accessories, etc. Who says it even has to be a real animal? I've always wound up settling on hybrid species myself for lack of one that compels me really well 'stock' if you know what I mean.

That said, you really don't need to feel obligated to customize it too much. If a white wolf represents you fine, then why can't you just be a white wolf?

Very true, I like realism Ive seen the somewhat cartoon looking fursonas but I want something kinda on the realistic side I love detailed art! However there is allot of leeway there I joke allot and I'm just crazy but I guess my fursonas just this kind, caring wolf who is serious but has a Wilde side X3. I think some color is just what I need to give him personality and of course I'm a big metal fan so music plays a big role here. Thanks for your feedback as it gives me reassurance that I can just go wild and make him whatever I want!

Realism you say? If you are interested in having someone else draw your fursona for you, consider commissioning Dark Natasha! She is one of the foremost experts in realism within the Fandom.

You don't necessarily have to have markings, but accessories are awesome and cheap! If you say he's a jokester sometimes? Have him wear some big goofy glasses and carry around a whoopie cushion or rubber chicken. Feeling dapper? Top hat and a tie! With a character like a white wolf, he's like a blank canvas, and any accessory can easily change his appearance and character very quickly :3

For example, next year's con theme? He could easily be a wizard with a wizard's hat, wand and cape. Accessorize, baby!

Speaking as one of a virtual League of Red Foxes (who are not guilty), I would have to say that what makes a particular "fursona" stand out is the personality associated with it. In life, you are pretty much known by what you do and how you behave, by your reactions to temptation or adversity, by what you create or what you destroy. This can be reflected in your name, the general nature - and framing - of your posts and statements, and - as a visual indicator, by your attire, your tools or props, your facial expression, your general poise and bearing.

As one poster has already recommended, accessorize and add props for a 'morphic character; as another has recommended, for a more naturalistic beasty character, commission a portrait or icon or badge illustration from one of the more "realistic" artists, such as Dark Natasha or Balaa.

Whichever way you choose to go, remember that it is up to you to determine how that personality (or other distinction) comes out, so you need to be able to describe a pose or attire, or a predominant facial expression or "attitude". The artist doesn't need a life history, just a description of the moment...and it would help the artist immeasurably if he or she understands if this is of a character you play...or is more a reflection of what you feel to be the real you.

My user-icon is in fact a cropped and de-rezzed scan of Con-badge artwork made for me by Dark Natasha - just to show you what she can produce.

Ive seen darks art and I agree she is amazing! However don't take me as being wishy washy I want to be more on the realistic side but I do like the crazy cartoonist side. I'm more wild than anything I just like to be taken seriously every once in awhile. You guys have definitely given me options and Ive already got some ideas!

>.< My uncle's art is so amazing I just wish I had his talents (hopefully its a unlocked talent atm lol) Hes not a furry but hes drawn wolves and just to see the realism in his art upsets me to know he throws his life away like he does, sad to see such talent go to waste! However back to the subject I would love to talk with someone like her to get to learn how she thinks and makes her canvas come to life, I always try to find inspiration especially to pick the minds of the great! I'm sure when I get my badge or what ever art piece done it will be nothing far from amazing =3.

i feel so incredibly able to relate to this. i was going through something similar(as if a raccoon bat mix wasn't unique enough) and i got a talking to from a wolf. he said that he, as a wolf, felt that he had to be somewhat unique as well, and told me that what made his fursona different was personality.

then i was all like WOOOOOOOW, cuz it was all profound 'n' stuff.

on the other hand, if you want something easier, just toss in another species. hybrids are almost guaranteed to be unique. it's almost certain there will never be another raccoon bat hybrid, at least while i'm around. Sticking out tongue besides, one of me is more than enough...

Thanks mate but I prefer to stick to being a wolf as a whole, going into hybrids isn't for me. For me being a furry is a very spiritual bond with wolves and nature, the wolf being as amazing as it is needs no adjustment in my eyes. Now my fursona is unique already because well HES ME but I just want to add some details and some other stuff, for beginners since I play guitar my fursona will wear a guitar pick as a necklace! I am my fursona and I need to make myself look good right lol.
