So, I totally forgot to do this before just now. Heh!

How can I put this...this is how you do it right, people. I honestly feel like all available space was maximally used. From the checking out of gear for the gaming room to the combination of the Dealer's Den / Art Show / Artist's Alley in that very large space to the scheduling of events, this is the sort of thing I look to when I'm trying to figure out how to make Furry Fiesta better.

The Dorsai were pretty friendly in general - got a gruff comment from one of them once, but hey, it's a convention with several *thousand* people...and the guy was on elevator duty, of all things. It's bound to get rough. That said, they were mostly helpful and congenial folks, and they garner my sincere thumbs-up.

The fursuit dance competition was, for me, probably the I-didn't-know-I-would-like-this of the entire convention. I remember I was on my way to do something else, and I saw some fursuiter really showing off their moves. I wandered over to watch, and then came another suiter, even better. Before I knew it, I was inside, watching dancer after dancer and staring. Wow!

The only problem I had was with the bottlenecks in transportation, and those are almost exclusively due to the physical construction of the buildings; there are only so many elevators, and there's only one (indoor) path from the hotel to the convention center. In both cases, these were optimally handled by the convention staff, so it's no use complaining about it here.

All told, I had a great time, and I intend to return in 2011. I'm going to try staying in an overflow hotel this time to see if there's a big difference, but I'm looking forward to seeing the Furry Mecca again in June!

Thank you for your kind words!  There's an interesting back-story to the physical construction that you mentioned.  When they built the convention center they were also planning to build another tower onto the Westin.  Unfortunately, the city ran into a budget crunch and pulled the funding for the tower.  That's why there are two escalators on the front of the Convention Center that run down to...nothing!

Word has it, although I've not been able to confirm it, that the Westin's architects said, "No problem! We'll just build us a skybridge over to the Convention Center.  It'll come right off the second floor atrium and it'll be sweet."

And the Convention Center architects, after the skybridge was about 3/4 done, were like, "Uh, you guys know that the skybridge you're building won't connect up to anything over on our side, right?  It's headed right for the parking garage."

And the Westin's architects were like, "FFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU....."

(Edit:  Must resist temptation to sneak into Istanbul's account and put "not Constantinople" underneath the name!)

Greetings, Seradaluna!

You know, you don't have to have a fursuit to come to AnthroCon, or even to be a Furry Fan; only a small percentage of us do!  More of us are artists and illustrators, or writers of stories, or puppeteers, or comic book creators, or even film-makers - and many Furry Fans probably don't fit into those categories by experience, but simply by a fondness for Anthropomorphic Animal Characters.

By all means, save your money for the convention itself (plus hotel room and travel arrangements, of course), see what we're all about, have a good time - and then investigate fursuiting, talk to 'suiters about what the experience of wearing a suit is like, what performing is like, what building a suit is like, and then make your decision on whether or not that aspect of our hobby is right for you or not.

Coming from Juneau, you probably have a wealth of resources locally concerning the use of animal imagery and storytelling, from the local Tlinget Culture - in fact, it would be quite acceptable, and rather novel, for someone to show up in a Raven or Wolf or Eagle Totem Mask, or who could bring T-shirts with the stylised symbolic art used on Totem Poles for the various animals, such as Orca and Seal and Salmon.  It would certainly add to our Anthropological Cred if you should choose to do that, for those of us who are ignorant of such things down here in the southern part of the country.

Any questions you may have, feel free to first look in the FAQ and other site resources in the sidebars; If you do not see an answer to a particular question or concern, don't be shy about asking, there is bound to be someone here who will help you with the answer.

Good Luck, and rub a Billiken for me!

Thank you for the compliment.

As for the part you don't understand, it was a take on seradeluna's total lack of punctuation in the paragraph. "I'll leave these here, use them as needed."

We understand, and are compassionate about a learning disability.

However, let me note that properly spelled, properly capitalized, and properly punctuated messages are important on the internet. We can only know you by your words, right now, until we meet you one day at Anthrocon; the impression you create will be much more positive if done right.

Take a moment before posting, review your words. It's more important to post well than post quickly.
