Hello to all.

Last year, I was unable to bring my fursuit and costume items to AC for sale because of the US customs agents insisting that I would be an illegal immigrant worker by physically selling items in the US instead of hiring fully capable US citizens to sell my items. I was fingerprinted, photographed and turned away and told to enter with no textiles, not even my own personal fursuits.

Whatever... I thought NAFTA was on my side, but it isn't since my items, although costumes, are considered textiles and they suddenly become an exception for NAFTA. (like softwood lumber)

I could try to transport my items there myself, but that would require hiring a Customs Broker and would involves posting a bond on my costume items worth 1.5x their value. So basically I need to shell out 2400$ in order to make 1600$ in sales...

However I can ship them ahead of time as Uncle Kage suggests.
BUT, "Materials should be sent no earlier than 72 hours before the date of the function or arrival." confuses me. Does this imply that they cannot receive packages 3 days before the convention, or does it require a miracle that I ship the items 3 days before the con using an express service like FedEx/UPS which I doubt would clear their customs that fast and would be very expensive.

Last year I tried to ship a commissioned fursuit on Thursday before the Con by FedEx and they guaranteed it would be there next day... it got there... on Monday after the con, then I had to have the hotel ship it to my customer.. and they even messed that up by leaving the costume in their shipping department a full week before shipping after I called a 2nd time.. So I strongly doubt FedEx/UPS before the con would be possible.

So in case the above holds true, I am looking for furs/fursuiters, driving to AC, preferable those nearby it, or even in Pittsburgh itself who can accept our packages of fursuit items and transport them to the con and possibly transport what remains are left back with them to ship back to us after the con. I am willing to pay for them to accept the packages and hold/transport them and will cover any customs fees that may be applied to them.
I'm looking at possibly 5-6 medium boxes of tails, ears, paws, etc.

Please feel free to contact me if you're interested.

Every once in a while, UPS and FedEx screw up. With the millions of packages they ship each year, it's bound to happen.

The hotel will begin accepting items for Anthrocon attendees starting on Monday, July 2, which is three days before the convention. The reason for this is that they only have limited storage space, and cannot have boxes piling up weeks or even months before the event, and possibly getting mixed in with boxes that belong to another group.

I have been in this business a long time, and can recommend the following:

Ship your package "3-day economy" by FedEx (which is cheapest) on THURSDAY, June 28. The box will then be scheduled to arrive on Tuesday, July 3. Sometimes they show up a bit early, which would be fine, since it's highly unlikely that it will arrive on Friday, and they do not deliver on Saturday unless you pay extra.

If the box does not arrive on Tuesday, you can call and browbeat them. They'll do their darnedest to get it to you by Thursday (Wednesday being a holiday).

It's not a guarantee, but it is your best bet. I'm not very sure I would advocate sending your $1600 fursuit to someone you do not know and trusting them to bring it along without letting it get damaged or lost or somesuch.

Just to give folks an idea of how much was shipped to the hotel before the con last year, we had an entire pallet of boxes waiting for us in Con Ops...

I think I sent you a message through the site... It may be too late to ship things for them to arrive in time, but if you're still interested, I'd be willing to play cargo-hauler for ya. 'Course, I might ask for a deal on some ears.... ^^;; Kidding. If you're interested, give me a buzz: silverwolf_420 on Yahoo! Messenger or silverwolf15 @ hotmail.com for regular ol' email.
