The Omni is only 2 blocks away. It takes about 5 minutes to walk there.

The omni is also less crowded Lobby and elevator wise as well which makes it ideal if you want to get to your room in a timely manner after the dealers den closes. Also if you have room Parties to go to >.< Lol Balaa, Bagheera, myself and my Husband had to hike it up 14 flights of stairs to get to a friends room in the westin for a sketch party *Dies* due to Elevator crowding.

It is precisely this far:
The Westin is the building at the end of the street.

I stayed at the Omni last year. The walk doesn't take more than 2 minutes depending on traffic. Since you can see the Westin from the Omni, you'll never get lost.
Beware of beggars, though. (Just ignore them.)

Seconding mapdark on that one, didn't really see such folks wondering the streets.
However.
I've got a question that's relative to this thread. Anybody who might have attended Anthrocon '06 might know.
Now, is it just me, or has any fur noticed a crowd of normal people dressed-up in chef's clothing, generally in the area where McDonald's/Wendy's/Arby's are located? I've seen those folks on several occasions during the time of the convention. I didn't know if there was something eventful going on there or not, and I didn't really bother to ask them.
Just thought I share that bit.

There is a Culinary Academy on that block, in fact it's a Cordon Bleu chef's school. It is part of a larger "Hospitality Training Center", to provide job-training in the Hospitality Industry, i.e. Hotel employees, Restaurant employees, and managers of such.
Pittsburgh was once a very grimy, gritty city, literally and figuratively. This was Steel Town, USA!, remember. But it has been cleaned up, the grime and soot have been scrubbed away, the city is starting to become a cultural center and attraction. It has a major-league baseball team, an NFL football team, the Convention Center...well, we have SEEN the convention center, which has a staff which actively and agressively seeks out major convention business. It is also a college town, and the corporate HQ for many very large and prominent industrial giants...and several hotels and restaurants to keep all potential travellers who come here for business or pleasure well-fed, well-rested, and entertained.
AnthroCon is fun - but if you look around a bit, there are all sorts of interesting things and reasons to spend a little of our time Pittsburgh, looking around and playing in Pittsburgh.

Technically it's the Pennsylvania Culinary Institute. You got my hopes up because some culinary schools operate restaurants on their campuses for their chefs to learn their trade (and get great food at decent prices!). Sadly, it doesn't look like that's the case at PCI. Bummer!

We get this question a lot, so I put a map together for folks:
Zoom in and click on individual icons to see detailed info on what they are. I also marked certain areas in the convention center on the map.
The shaded route that goes south leads you to the bus station, since it appears outside of the edges of the window otherwise.
