THE WESTIN IS SOLD OUT OF DOUBLE ROOMS. ONLY KING-BED ROOMS ARE LEFT.
THE COURTYARD IS 100% SOLD OUT
THE DOUBLETREE WEB PAGE IS FIXED. They even have suites available!
Now see, this has to be a joke. Last year, the rooms lasted around a day before selling out..
Except about quitting the board.
... oh wait, now I remember, that's not a joke either, you're just trapped forever in a bloodcontract with the devil!
Kage knows if he resigns from the board, there is nothing preventing me from telling the story about the time I saw him in his underwear.
Thus he stays.
ARRGH! My eyes! It burns!
...But there are things worse than seeing Kage in his underwear: seeing me fully dressed, for example.
So its better to see him streaking than being fully dressed, by that logic?
Woops, I lydexia had o.o my fault
Aaaand 1 long distance phonecall later, I was able to snag a double :3
Well, i stayed up from 4AM so i didn't sleep past this, and I'm now happilly booked with a Westin room with 2 double beds, and called to confirm it was correct which it was. Huzzah!
No more Omni Williams for me, (even though this is only my 2nd year)
Holy Hot Damn! Soon as the site came up I was bookin it like running after the last can of soda in the fridge.
If that's a Mountain Dew soda.........*steals*
LOL
I'm assuming when you make reservations they will inquire about your badge number to confirm your going to the con? I didn't find any other ID number in the letter, email after registering, etc..
They only need your badge number if you are requesting a suite. You do not have to pre-register for the con to reserve a room.
Nope. I never even registered yet. Gotta realize there are hundreds who reg at the door.
Over a thousand last year. It's a long line.
..seriously, Pre-Register if you can.
You don't need a badge number to book a hotel room. We do not compare the registration database and the hotel database until the actual convention itself, since some folks like to register for the con onsite. I don't know why -- it saves you money to register early!
... do not compare the registration database and the hotel database until the actual convention...
Hmm. Friday-night ghost hunting? Sounds like fun!
Well this post scared the nuts off me. But I called the Westin about 5 minutes ago to book and they didn't seem to have a shortage of double beds. So. ...Go me!
This is crazy <_<; I can imagine the hotel management preparing for the reservations for AC to open... all dressed like WWII infantrymen, in bunkers, and trenches. A commander talking to his troops as they await for the furry landing party... then THE BATTLE! when reservations open, and the hordes of fluff come ashore to get a room!
lol @Wolf, thats an awesome mental image!
Well i was going to pre-register just to make certain there was a room before i got there - especially if your getting reduced rates by saying your going to the con. Money's tight in this economy and savings is welcome. ^.^
I maed you a hotel room but i broked it. D:
now...TO PITTSBURGH! *starts walkin with fursuit in a cardboard box & a kayak with WHEELS*
I just got off the phone with the Westin. They said they were completely out of Doubles now.
Whenever I try to check availability on rooms at the Courtyard, I keep getting sent to an 'Unsuccessful Sell' page telling me that "Group Rate Not Available For Requested Dates", for which I've entered the defaults of 6/21-6/28, what I really want of 6/22-6/27, and even 6/23-6/25 to avoid the 'Wednesday and Sundays Full' thing, but all lead to the same page.
Does this mean it's full already or is the code for the special rate incorrect for some reason?
The Courtyard Marriott has one of the smallest allocations of rooms, about 50, I believe. (It's not a large hotel.) It sells out quickly for that reason. It may be (and probably is) already full to capacity. The Westin, on the other hand, has about 500 rooms (520, I believe) and therefore fills up a little less quickly.
Ah, I didn't actually know its reserved block was that much smaller (I mean I knew the building was smaller but yeah). Woulda been far more alert to the time had I been aware... oh well.
As soon as 9am hit (8am Central my time.), I was on the phone immediately. Got hung up by a reservation person once for unknown reason, then called back 15 seconds later and was finally able to make my reservation. Got my confirmation # and a King bed room. Yay!
DX Oh my god, I have to book a room soon, at any hotel, but it seems I may be too late already before my brother can make plans! XC
Will there be a waiting list for those of us who would like doubles?
I don't think they maintain a wait list--too much potential for chaos as they try to balance the needs of that person who's at the top of the list with the needs of this person who has already arrived. Plus the current system is set up to dissuade people from making reservations before they're really ready to commit to the room, so most room reservations will probably get transferred rather than cancelled.
What you can do when you arrive, however, is ask the concierge nicely if any doubles have come available at the last minute, you know it's probably a pipe dream but it doesn't hurt to ask... If there is a double that hasn't otherwise been booked by someone else, they'll know.
And Dester'edra, although it's quite rare, sometimes people have their plans collapse at the last minute. In 2003, I found out on the Tuesday of the con that I would be going into the hospital on that Wednesday for emergency surgery. I cancelled my room immediately and (hopefully) someone was able to use it. Historically, there will be some cancellations, even with this procedure.
So, while it can't hurt to keep checking, the best thing to do is to reserve a room at another of the con hotels. It's better to be certain you have a room at the Doubletree instead of hoping against hope that a last-minute vacancy will open up at the Westin.
well, i haz my room aswell, just wondered, everyone keeps talking bout the elevator, but are there any stairs?
and, i stay in pittsburgh till the 29th? but i couldnt stay that long, why?
there are stairs, but you definately need to be in shape to use them. Last year I was on the 18th floor, and just one trip up the stairs felt like an eternity, and I was sore and winded by the time I reached my floor. So if you are the stairmaster, go ahead and use the stairs, or if you are on a low floor. if you are high up, just use the elevator, its easier, even if you gotta wait 15 minutes for it to get to your floor to go down
I considered myself immensely lucky to be on the 6th floor of the Westin last year. Not a bad run up to my room all, especially from the 3rd floor
Lucky is an understatement.
Since 2006, no matter when I get there, I always end up on like the 14th floor, and every year I seem to get a room on a progressively higher floor. :\
*chuckle* Very clever
I was on the 15th floor, and took the stairs a couple of times when the elevator lines were too long (rule of thumb: if the line is long enough to box in the concierge desk, it's faster to take the stairs). The trick is to rest for a couple of minutes every few flights.
People should also keep in mind that the lowest sleeping-room floor is the 5th floor. The 4th floor has the hotel management offices and the fitness center.
"People should also keep in mind that the lowest sleeping-room floor is the 5th floor."
This needs to be repeated. Or at least the "sleeping-room" part does. Two things to remember about that:
- People use the rooms to sleep in.
Basically, this means that any and every floor (including the fifth floor) will have people trying to sleep at night. Some of the rooms are really near the elevators, too. As far as I know, we may also have to deal with non-furs who also have rooms on any given floor. (If I am wrong about this last part, please let me know so I can make corrections.)
- Please don't try to circumvent the lobby lines by "being clever" and going to the fifth (or even sixth) floor.
Every year there are groups of people who do this. (And I have personally witnessed this more than once, so I know it happens.) What they don't seem to realize is that the elevators are *still* going to be full when they stop on the fifth and sixth floors because most of the people who have rooms on those floors tend to use the stairs to get to their rooms. What happens is that a group of furs then winds up congregating on the fifth or sixth floor for a long period of time, which can disturb the quiet rest of the people on those floors. Or, they will try to cram on to an already-full elevator, which increases the likelihood of that elevator getting overloaded.
THIS. Our room on the 6th floor last year was the closest to the elevators, and we could always hear people, even late at night, coming in and out, and I was often astonished seeing how many people there were waiting around for elevators. I would think to myself, "how many people ARE there on this floor?" I'd just take the stairs.
YAY i has my room

Jesus!
