I can't help thinking there must be an article about this out there somewhere...but in brief, after you arrive you must check into your hotel room (this can be done by whoever is responsible for it) and pick up your registration package, which includes a conbook and an official schedule of events. Checking the schedule for things you would like to do first thing is always helpful. After that, it's nonstop hanging with people, wandering between attractions (panels, shows, and the dealer's den), and crashing at the end of each day. In that sense, it's like going to a Six Flags or Disney theme park. Lots and lots of people milling around...and even the occasional mascot! =^.^= Having a group to do things with, and at least a general plan, makes you less likely to feel stranded.
The thing I would caution any first-time congoer about with respect to the dealer's den is to try not to glance sideways while you're browsing an artist's wares, because you never know what the person next to you might be browsing through at the same time...though artists are pretty good about covering up and labeling "mature" material, it's a good rule of thumb--or dewclaw.

That would be because said covering up is required by Pennsylvania state law.

As sometimes happens, I fear I got on a tangent subject with respect to the original question...but I'll still stand beside what I said about checking the schedule and using it to make plans. They'll have the schedule decided before the con begins but not by much, and changes are inevitable.
Basically, there are a few main things that happen (not in this order): dances, opening ceremonies, closing ceremonies, and presentations by the guests of honor. Outside that, there are a multitude of seminars or "panels" for specific interests...and you are by no means required to attend any specific event. You're there to have fun, and while I find attending events makes the experience more meaningful, you pick your own path and there are limitless possibilities.

I apprecriate all the feedback. I would like to ask about physically challenged accessibility for the con, this is my first con, and also my first time suiting, is getting around the con, are their any challenges that I should be made aware of? Any assistance here would be greatly apprecriated.
Many Thanks,
Rukario

Both the Westin and the Convention Center are fully ADA-compliant. For fursuiters, there are elevators. The only real challenge is the distance you may have to walk. We will have a "Headless Lounge" in the Convention Center where fursuiters can stop and grab a drink and cool down.

Distance... yes. I heard alot of people complain that there was alot of walking at the westin. People are lazy
so dont have any sympathy for them. =P Also, spoiled from the convention being in the late Adams Mark and having everything alot closer.

Distance is no issue for me, either IRL or in character. Walking the streets of Tokyo Japan, gave me a new apprecriation for how people in other parts of the world have it.

rar...
bring somethign for the 2 hour downtime between 6 and 8pm, seriously it got REAL boring durign that time. When is ay downtime I mean the 2 hour gap in organized programming, and I believe at about that time the artist alley, constore, and booths are closed so you should bring somethign to keep yourself occupied; like a book or in line for the videogame room.

permalinkThat downtime is meant for you to have a good amount of time for dinner. And really, to sit down in a restaurant, eat, chat with your group, takes about an hour and a half.

Exkhaniber is absolutely correct. Pretty much all programming shuts down for roughly 1 hour at lunch time, and for 2 hours around dinner time. This is done for not only congoers, but for the diligent and determined folks working the convention to be certain that there is ample time for everyone to grab a decent meal.
We have had instances in the past where congoers were having such a grand time, they literally forgot to eat! We want to make certain that everyone (staff and congoers) take care of all things necessary so they don't succumb to con crud. Remember folks: 6-2-1! 6-2-1! (6 hours of sleep a day, 2 meals per day, 1 shower per day...that's a minimum for each!)
If you've never heard the full reasons for this...be sure to stop by the "So This is Your First Con" panel on Friday.

permalinkIf you attend the opening ceremonies of a convention. (And they are usually like 20 - 30 mins for furry cons) you will learn all you have to know about the con. Grabbing the programs at the con will help help you fill in he gaps.
*And now for a Star Wars Quote*
Use the force, Luke.
It really is all you need to do.
Oh and Have fun . (That is THE reason to go...To have fun!!!)
It is my first too. I have gone to one other much smaller con last Halloween. I am taking what I know about cons from that one.
