2011 Video Gaming Track - Call for Games and Equipment
Hello furry gamers.
We're in the process of lining up tournaments for the Video Game Room this year and it shaping up to be an interesting set! I've contacted everyone on the list of tournament hosts, but if you'd like to run a tournament there's still time! Drop me or turtyl a PM.
We rely on our fellow furs to stock the video game room with consoles, controllers and games to keep all of us occupied and happy. So if you'd like to be instrumental in the happiness of your fellow gaming furs, please consider letting us borrow your equipment.
Here's this year's list of needed equipment:
PS3 Consoles and Controllers
XBox Consoles and Controllers
Wii Consoles, Nunchucks and Classic Controllers
GameCube Controllers
Any Rock Band or Guitar Hero equipment
Any party-style, FPS or other quick/fun games
To make sure your equipment is safe (and returns to its rightful owner), we will be tagging everything that anyone donates with their badge number. New this year, we will be filling out inventory sheets and waivers for all furs who donate equipment. All games will remain behind the main table and will be switched out by staff. We will also be watching the room like a hawk.. or wolf or turtle or whatever happens to be watching at the time.
See you all there!

It's looking like I'll be stuck with whatever fits in suitcase/carryon space, so I can contribute a couple mics (as long as you don't mind the Guitar Hero stamped on one of them
) and a stock kick pedal. I don't think my "Rock Pedal" would play nice with the luggage or weight limit, oh well. General PS3/X360 controls I can definitely contribute.
I _really_ hope that people don't swing mics around, that breaks my heart. And I personally think RB2 Strats are more scarce. Which is a shame, because after two years of service, mine are pretty worn down.
If I manage to find someone else with space who's driving to AC I'll prioritize sending stands along. There's a GH kit just sitting in my closet too, I rather dislike the 4-pad charts in the GH games so I'd try sending that along too.
Less on topic: Any more information on the Rock Band tournament structure?
I'm doubting anyone will set up any GH games. I'm not saying I'm opposed to playing them outside of Anthrocon, but for time vs. space/interest reasons (and having a much bigger selection than GH), we'll probably stick with RB3. The gamers who were most vocal about Guitar Hero last year (badmouthing Rock Band, or even myself for being more into RB) didn't bother bringing their instruments, hard drives, or copies of GH games, so that solved that problem. Tournament info: Not finalized yet. I'm going to be dealing with a lot of irritation this year, for a few reasons.
- Vocal harmonies: Not every song has harmonies. From what I've experienced, multiple people will try to get up and sing one part, meaning you've got less room for others. Also, unless you approach the mic as a group, vocalists who offer to join in on harmonies shouldn't be taken out of their place in line, since they're not necessarily singing a song they were waiting to play.
- Keyboard: Definitely going to complicate things, as not every song has keyboard. Folks will be waiting around to play it, and be gradually more disappointed when the singer doesn't want to do the song they were hoping for (Bohemian Rhapsody, over and over and over, or possibly Piano Man).
- All-Instrument Mode: Futzes with scoring, since it disables the points you'd gain from singing (reduces it to karaoke mode with no overdrive). Allowing it will probably be up to the singer, if they really don't care about their score.
- Pro guitar: There will definitely be some interest in this, I MIGHT bring my Mustang, but I won't keep it out for regular play. It's enough that I have to watch others man-handle my guitars and drums, but I'm not going to risk damaged buttons or strings on a $150 controller. Also, it's a fair bit more difficult than standard 5-key.
All of this makes for more difficult tournament planning. Sometimes you need to keep in mind what'll make the audience happy, but you have to remember it's a tournament and needs structures/rules. I have either two or three hours to cram as much songs and fun into as I can, and there will definitely be some folks who have problems with a variety of things.
Also, in case anyone doesn't already know, an internet connection is required for verification purposes if anyone brings any 360 DLC via their hard drive or any kind of memory card. I'll be bringing a wireless network adapter, but I'm not sure if we'll even be able to use the hotel's wifi for gaming purposes. If you're planning on bringing any game with map packs, song packs, or any other kind of DLC, please consider bringing the entire 360 and writing out its intended use in the game room.
We're still looking for some consoles, games and a bunch of standard controllers. If you're thinking of bringing any gaming equipment for the con's use, please let us know!

PS, if anyone has a working NES, duckhunt and gun, or some heavy-duty DDR pads, we'd be eternally grateful!
If you're still looking, I might be able to root up Duck Hunt and a gun, but probably not the NES. Even then, I expect the NES lightgun to be...interesting to bring through airport security. :/
Now that the schedule is out, I'd like to reiterate that we still need console/controller/game donations for this year's Video Game room. If you can bring anything on the following list (or anything else for that matter) along for the ride, the whole mass of gaming furs at this year's con will be eternally grateful.. or at least till the end of the con ^_^
DDR pads - the heavy-duty type. (We can't have a tourney without them! ^_^;;)
Rockband Guitars
PS3/XBox/Wii consoles
PS3/XBox/Wii/Gamecube controlers
If you're planning on participating in the Rockband or Smash Bros tournaments, please consider bringing a controller or two to loan to the VG room. If you have heavy duty DDR pads, but don't have a way to transport them, please post here or get in touch with me. If you're close enough to Philly (or Pittsburg or somewhere on our way between) we may be able to get them on the big AC truck, or arrange other transport.
Help us make this year's VG a success!
As far as Gamecube controllers, I can bring three Wavebirds and a silver wired GC controller if you need them for the Smash tournament. I'm going to have various Rock Band controllers with me, especially guitars, as well as my 360 (in addition to the one that has all the Rock Band songs on it).
Well I gots lots of equipment just collecting dust here.
Available items I have:
-2 Wii Controls with Nunchuk for each.
-2 dusty 360 controllers.
-Maybe a Guitar Hero 3 Controller (works with Rock Band 1 but never try it with the others)
-And last a Kinect for the newer 360s (I can bring it, will a staff member PM if they would like me to bring that)
Thanks! I don't know that we'll have any games that the Kinect will work for, unless you have some you'd like to bring.
The VG room will be open Thurs from 7:30 till about 9ish for setup and dropoffs, other than that, you can stop by and drop equipment off anytime.
I got Kinect Adventures with it. And I am looking into another game for everyone to play with at AC. I also hooked it all up so it can saves its photos and they can be uploaded to my PC and then I can post them on the forums to show some of the fun people were having. (after running it by some staff members). I will be hooking up my own console for this because there are more unlocked things to use on it than just starting fresh.

I definitely don't have a problem with bringing most of the necessary Rock Band-related items (considering I'm running the RB tournament), but if anyone else is able to/wants to bring anything, we could definitely use:
- more 360 guitar controllers (I'd rather my RB2 Strat not get worn out, some folks don't know how to strum properly)
- another 360 RB2 drum kit (definitely gets a lot of wear and tear)
- backup kick pedals (ditto)
- possibly another microphone (some people don't know it's not cool to swing them around)
- a decent keyboard stand
If anyone is willing to bring these things, I can promise that whenever I'm in the video game room playing Rock Band (which will be very often), I'll do my best to keep an eye on anything. If I catch someone abusing anything, I'll be sure to have word with them. I know it's tough to find certain kinds of RB instruments these days, especially drums.
I would also very much appreciate someone willing to bring/maintain DDR pads, especially for the DDR tournament. Soft or metal pads would do, just keep in mind that they'd be used for the duration of the video game room.
