Anthrocon's Philadelphia-area volunteer needs
We are streamlining our loading and unloading process in the Philadelphia area (it only took us 12 years). We will still be needing volunteers on Tuesday night to load the truck, but unlike years past, the final loading in Malvern will take place that every evening. There should not be a need for volunteers on Wednesday morning. Now, if you would still like to come by and join the convoy that will be heading West along the PA Turnpike that morning, you're more than welcome to. Check out our volunteer page for more details.
i can help out in malvern that date i only live like 10 mins away with traffic
The Schedule:
Tuesday: Truck starts loading at 5:30 PM in North Philly. Logistics crew has explicit instructions not to begin with fewer than 4 people for safety's sake so they will wait until we have a quorum.
Loading is not expected to take more than 30 minutes with everything now on wheels.
The truck will depart North Philly around 6 PM and will arrive in Malvern around 7 PM. The local equipment will be loaded up then and should not take longer than 90 minutes.
Then we nom on food. The truck leaves Malvern at 7 AM sharp on Wednesday morning. Stop for breakfast and coffee, and arrival in Pittsburgh storage location between 12:30 and 1:00 PM.
Please tell me you have either wheel locks or wheel chucks this year, Kage. :-D
why on earth would they ever need that?
Why indeed, when we have expensive lightbulbs for cushioning?
Personally, i'd plan to supplement any wheel chucks or wheel locks with some god old fashioned rope; stuff that's lashed down sixteen ways from sunday is less likely to slide and go crunch.
The wheels were an excellent idea - that's how professional movers move boxes of household goods, or entire offices of furniture and computer terminals, usually loading up carts which look like the book cart in a library, on steroids. It's how Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Circus loads and unloads the circus train, rolling on and rolling off wagons from one end, rolling them down the length of the entire train. In both cases the whole process is much quicker and a more efficient use of the volume of available space, saving both time and expense.
It's just that the details of the idea weren't fully explored - that's all.

I have purchased enough tie-downs and bungee cords to hold a freight train in place.
Excellent! :-) Though I have to admit, last year's ahmmm ...adventure... made for a good story!
I wonder whether it led to a moment like this:
I'll pre-pack Sunday, and park at the lab parking lot overnight Monday. Then it'll be easy for me to make it to loading Tuesday afternoon and be able to sleep without having to pack any of my stuff up Tuesday night, I can go home throw the pies (blueberry and pumpkin, shells and mix pre-made sSunday and kept refridgerated until baking time) into the over while I shower and check final details, which will then allow me to just jump out of bed 5 am Wednesday and be in Malvern in time to follow the convoy at 7. :3
No wedding this year to sleep-deprive me, so I'll be able to bag-stuff on Wednesday this time!
My train ride from Ca. to Pa. is Wednesday 22-2011 at 4:35 A.M. you can put me to work emediatly .I do a lot of thinking out side of the box. Mpuntain Blue Fox Joe.

Hmm, what will be the altered times for this?
