Bat meetup 2011.
Now I won't feel strange posting in an old thread.
I'm possibly interested in a meetup. Not sure what I'd want to do that I wouldn't normally be doing. I'll probably be wearing my wings most of the con, unless the rubber gets too uncomfortable against my back.
Sounds like a good time.
ANd yeah I noticed after I posted it, MiltoniousPrime. ^^;;;
Hmm. We really don't have a panel around bats and such...maybe in 2012... *copybooks*
So, do you bats still want to get together? Should we pick a time and place? I second the idea of doing it at night. Friday works best for me, how about you guys?
Friday night anytime after nine would work. There's the dances, but they go on for several hours - I'd be happy to interrupt dance-going to meet up with bats for a while.
Whenever is fine, I'm usually up pretty late (more often than not, until the sun comes up). Any ideas for place?
We could always either go to a hookah bar or a movie. Not really sure what in Pittsburgh is open at that time of night other then clubs and such.
hmmm, I don't actually want to leave for so long as to drive to a hookah bar or go watch a movie. Maybe grab a drink at something right there close by, like Tonic or Seviche? I liked the lounge area at the front of Seviche, nice little loveseats so you have enough room for a tail, as opposed to sitting in a chair.
Or just the zoo, or something like that?
Really, whatever works. I'm willing to stop by, but I can't see myself making a full evening of this, my attention gets diverted far too easily. I'll probably have my skates along with me, and my cell, so I'll either be out skating, or might do so after we meet.
That's just what I was saying - meet up, say hi and chit-chat over a drink or whatever, and go our separate ways.
What do you say we meet up outside the Westin and see if there's a hookah circle there to join? It's a pretty good bet there will be, and that would be a nice way to hang out and chat a bit, with no travel or time commitment involved.
(If there is by chance no hookah circle going on, we could come up with Plan B.)
Wow, you know what would be really fun? A roller-blading cloud of bats!! ....but I don't think I could, it's actually been several years since I've used mine...but it might be a great plan for an official event for next year....
I believe Pittsburgh has laws restricting roller-blading, although I could be wrong. It's unlikely that the con, the DLCC or any of the hotels would allow it simply due to safety considerations.

Looks like no skating on sidewalks. Seems to be permitted on streets (just like bicycles); wear safety gear, obey traffic laws, and listen to the police officers.
If there's a hookah circle going on and I see you guys, I'll stop by and say hello. Or if we decided to go out for a drink, I'd be up for that.
SO, Friday at 10:00, outside the Westin?
Let's update the old thread so other bats see it, and also could one of you put it on the bulletin board at AC? (I won't be getting to AC until shortly before this meetup so it wouldn't do any good for me to put it on the BB.)
I'll try to remember to, but I'm pretty sure the old thread is locked (at my request).
Hey there! Got referred to this thread by rainbow, and thought I'd get in on the action! I'd be happy to join you folks and I will be around the convention by Thursday afternoon. :3
Just let me know when and where, and I'll be there!
Hi!
Friday night at 10:00, outside the main entrance to the Westin - somewhere in that area, always lots of people hanging out there so it's hard to be more specific, but somewhere where, if you walked out the front door and looked to your left and to your right, you'd notice some bats and a sign. I'll make a sign! And I'll see if I still have that inflatable bat from Halloween... that would be hard to miss hanging from a sign!...but I think it ripped and got thrown away... anyway, hope to meet you Friday!
Will meet you all there :3
It's a giant date :3
Last night's downpour got me to thinking.... perhaps we should have a backup location in case of heavy rain??
Maybe just, if it's pouring, meet inside the lobby of the westin?
thats all right.. i shall be looking for the bat sign later tonight
this is a long shot.. but i have arrived 15 minutes late and saw no bat meetup group.. anyonecan contact me as tobthe groups whereabouts
Morgan Batty! I'm glad you did find us, it was great to meet you!
Good to meet you as well! Hope we get to meet up again soon next year
It was a pleasure meeting the batties of Anthrocon '11.. Hope we could do something again this year, or maybe at another convention sometime in the year, too!
I'd be curious how many bats showed up. We could maybe look into a scheduled event next year if enough did. :>
There's a lovely church down the way. Maybe in 2012 they will let us use their belfry?
*runrunrunrun*!
No need to run away, that was a good one, Uncle Kage!
Anyway, we had four bats and about four non-bat friends show up. I kinda liked it as non-official: relaxed, spontaneous, late in the evening (well, early for bats!)... we just hung, chatted, smoked a hookah, some of us went for a cocktail, re-grouped and chatted some more, went our separate ways...
It was fun and I met some nice people that I otherwise would probably never have met. But I do admit, I was kind of hoping at least one or two people would show up with bat fursuits/costumes.... I wore my "prototype" bat costume and was hoping to get some ideas/tips/etc. for construction. (I really liked Mr.Diabetes' wings and Batty Kalak's ears, though!)
Maybe next year make sure Dingbat knows about it - maybe she can wear her too-cute-for-words suit...
Any interest in running an insect meetup? I could bring a roach motel, if you need space.
Hahahahaha, the solution to the con's need for more rooms!
I thought of Uncle Kage last month when I met a woman who sewed a cockroach costume... just for fun... she's not even a furry (though she is a Renny/SCA-dian... that's just a step away from being a furry
)
Yes, many years ago (related to an incident at the previous year's charity auction), there was a girl who 'suited in a very sweet pink roach costume; she said she was going as kage's love child.
Who knows? The bat meetup may wat to be scheduled at the same time as the insects' gather, so they can go visit.
You know, so we can take them out to dinner.
They'll eat their dinner, then you'll eat yours...

I'd love to come to a bat meetup. I made a prototype bat costume last year and I'd love to check yours out to see how I'm going to proceed. And to just, you know, bask in the awesomeness of bats!!!!
