At Anthrocon 2001, when I still had longer hair, I was approached by a lady who asked me if I was Bill Gates. I told her politely that no, I was not.

Fifteen minutes later, as I stepped into the elevator with a couple of nonfurry hotel guests, one gentleman said to me, "are you kin to Bill Gates?" I just smiled and put my finger to my lips in a "ssshhh" motion, and went on my way.

I will point out, though, that I discount the alleged resemblance. Bill Gates is a lanky, awkward nerd with a hand-tailored Armani suit and a big intellectual chip on his shoulder who didn't get laid until he was in his thirties. I, however, have never owned an Armani suit.

As it happens, Anthrocon's funding (and the funding of the other two top furry cons by attendance) is actually a matter of public record, since they're non-profit organizations that are exempt from tax. Just look up Anthrocon in any Form 990 search (Guidestar has more, but they require a free registration).

For the curious, other terms to look up are Midwest Furry Fandom (Midwest FurFest) and Anthropomorphic Arts and Education (Further Confusion). Note that different areas of the country have different costs for different things, so costs like occupancy are not directly comparable.
