Ok, introductions are not my strong suit.. hmm.. where to start.. ahh! Basic info!

Alright! Names Tait LaRoche, 16 years of age, (Meh.. I'd like to think I'm more mature but lets not get into that!) and looking for ways to get to Anthro Con, or somebody maybe willing to take me?

I live in South Dakota.. a nice place really, its very quiet, I like it, but the problem is, its boring as far as I know! I've rarely been out of city and never out of state, but I want to go to Anthro Con so bad! South Dakota as far as I know has no furs around where I live, I'm a lonely fur here, sure I have friends but none of them know the joys of being a fur! I would try and get there myself but.. I have a few problems..

1: I'm a diabetic
Meh.. its a hard complication of life but I deal with it, but it makes things so much harder, I'm hopefully gonna be on the insulin pump before Anthro con however.. hopefully.

2: I'm underage
I know some might mind with traveling with a minor but I know how to act mature.

3: Parents
My parents know I'm a fur, but I'm not yet sure if they will let me go, it depends on certain diabetic issues.

4: No job
I have no job and no money, no allowance.. I know most wouldn't take me if I didn't offer to help but, I'm trying my hardest to get a job, have been since I was 14, no one has hired me.

5: Can't drive
The name speaks for itself, I can't drive, I haven't really tried to learn but..

Thats all I can think of right now.. hey.. its 1:24 AM so. Sticking out tongue

I might have a ride.. my friend, but he's not really sure he can take me, it all depends on how much money he earns.. I just want a guaranteed ride and someone to hang with at Anthro con so I don't feel so left out.

I really want to go and would be willing to do anything to do so! I have been a fur for not a whole year yet but I love being one now.

EDIT: Another issue, rooming, so.. meh.

The only problem I see is that your 16 .. and it does'nt even seem like your parents are agreeing on you going.

I hope you get a ride there.. but don't do what I have seen someone doing once and leave on false pretenses and get your lift-giver trouble.. that's all I say..

I concur. We must have a parental permission form that is signed -- and notarized -- before we can let you into the convention. The last thing we want is to have an angry parent stalking up to the chairman and shouting, "what is my kid doing at your convention??"

It's happened. I don't want it happening again.

Yeah I get what your saying, well my parents did say that I could go, but I guess I'd need the form to make sure? Well other than that, I'm almost 17, July 26'th, I just wish I could find a ride, someone friendly driving through the Black Hills area that could pick me up, I'm still trying to get a job and all, to at least help out, so I don't feel like I'm hitching a ride..

Well if you DO get a job , you can always catch a greyhound bus or something..

when you buy the ticket in advance , the rates are VERY good ^^

I know that my round-trip Montreal-Pittsburgh-Montreal will cost 110$ which is VERY cheap when you think about it..

hey Tait its kinda hard to explain ummmm.... I also have a thing for furs don't have one yet, but I am working getting one and getting to the anthrocon. And yet I think I might go nxt. year when things start to come together. ok first of all I'm perfectly fine with your condition I don't mind people with diabetes because my family on both sides have it and I know all the side effects such as low sugar you slip into a coma and if not pulled out of it you could welll... pass away if not treated immediately and go to high and your blood will clot like crazy and I know that the tests you have to take to monitor your sugar level are really a pain in the aaaaaa..... neck per say and I understand that because of this it adds complications and no one will take you, but I monitor my grandmother's sugar all the time and brought her out of several comas (not my fault in the first place) but in perspective you would be perfectly safe in my capable hands.
and I feel bad for you too so in other words it's all good.

Thats if I do get a job.. Sticking out tongue

I've been trying for two years and no one seems to want to hire me.

I just want someone to talk to on the trip and not be alone, etc. Someone to hang out with you know?

Well
The odds are against ya
Many places assume all minors are immature
Just take a shot at Fast food. That usually works.
Id go with the greyhound idea if you cant get a ride.

But at least you got your parents consent. That a start.
Keep talkin to people in the forums, somebody is bound to help in some way.

I wish you luck!

ummmm... did no one read my posted comment It's like I'm invisible I would take him, but it would be most likely that he would have to fly to my home town then I could take him from there or some one would have to drop him off here...
and like I said B4 peole diabetes don't bother me one bit cause my grand mother is one and so is my cousin so I would have no problems with hanging with him, especially since -.- yes as a matter a fact I as well am a MINOR 15 but nxt. year I will be 16 and able to drive anywhere (currently have a Farmers Permit) and am a advanced skilled driver ^^ love drag races and demo derbies but contrary to the thought I am a very safe driver LOLs

The main problem is the travel
But like he sai,he's flat broke
and doesnt know any furs around(or at least a state away)
Unless you would go pick him up

He will need a closer ride

He's Got a point Mordark if he could afford to fly to your home town he could probably afford anthrocon. Good luck with the job hunt though buddy.

Something that hasn't yet been mentioned here (but has been mentioned elsewhere) is that the path of least resistance could very well be to bring your parents along to the convention. People have done this before, and parents usually enjoy the convention as a whole.

Yes, the Chairman's parents have attended for several years, why do you ask? Smiling

Thats true.
I mean the con is in a city so there are many other things to do.
He could ask if the parents want to come along, not to the convention in general but for a small vacation

Well as you can see, the con has come and gone and well, I was right, did not get to go. Oh well I guess, always next year, I got to have a positive outlook on the situation, even though next years not turning out good either.

I'm 17 now so thats a slightly good thing, but I'm still a minor I guess. I'm still a fur and still wish I could have gone this year, and wish I could go next year.

All your suggestions are very nice but some of them probably won't work, its hard to keep the positive outlook. ^^;

They should work if you try to work towards it.
You are 17 so it should be a better chance to score a job.

I agree now that your 17 getting a job would be much easier. some places won't hire 14, 15 and even 16 year olds due to insurance issues. i had such issues occur when i was 15 and 16 so i know where you are coming from on that end

I wish you luck for next year ^_^

yeah only reason I have 2 jobs is because one is out at a family farm and the other is Masters Oil llc. also a family business that I worked at since I was like 7-8 yrs. old and I still work there, but work more and get payed by the hour to do so ^^ even if I do hate every day of my life that I have to spend trapped in that place it pays to be there and has gotten me out of a couple of jams b4^^ and if you work some where make sure you like it don't make the same mistake of sighing you're life away for a job you hate find something that you like or at least can stand to do-.- so do a good thing and learn from past mistakes or be doomed to repeat them^^

I find that getting a job, is as easy as your outlook for getting that job tends to be. If you are confident that you want to work for someplace, and you present yourself well at an interview, and fill out a really good job application - then you should be set basically. I got a couple of random jobs before I was 18 through friends of friends more or less. Once I turned 18 I applied for a pretty sweet job, and kept it so far even with going back and forth to college (19 now).

I couldn't go this year either because my mom needed me at home among other things. I'm definitely planning to go next year, but if I can't go then it isn't like it's the end of the world or anything. I went for the last two years before this past one and I had a lot of fun, so I was pretty upset that I couldn't go, especially with my friends going without me this year.

All in all, just try to keep a positive outlook on life overall. Help out with things you see as much as you can. Having a good attitude like that is sure to help things, and ease any tensions. Good feelings are contagious. Smiling

Just thought that I would jump in here and offer my two cents worth on finding a job.

Always keep in mind what a job really is; it is a business transaction. Somebody is going to give you money and they expect a product in return, your services. And how do you get a job? It is a sales pitch, you have to convince the person who can hire you that you will give them the biggest "bang for the buck" over any other person that is also after that job. Can you do the job better than somebody else? Then tell the person, not just that you can, tell them specifically WHY you could do it better and why that person will be glad that they hired you instead of somebody else. Convince them that each dollar that they pay you will be money well spent and will give them more than that in services returned, that they will be BETTER OFF because they hired you. Being young and inexperienced always makes a potential boss wary, but enthusiasm goes far. Try it, it works.
