Hey everyone!

Here's the word on our Games Workshop gaming action at AC this year. A 40K Combat patrols mini tournament, with art prizes no less!

Signing up:
As of now, I plan on a max of 12 slots to be available. Those who are in thus far are:

1: NallTWD (Thousand Sons)
2: Kegan Satori (Black Templars)
3: Tobias Marrik (Significant Divergence Space Marines)
4: BlackJokerFox (Imperial Guard)
5: Vidaroke (Necrons)
6: Silverhand (Minor Divergence Space Marines)
7: Alex Ritter

Rules:

-Each force is to be composed of no more than 400 points. The requirements to be fielded are one troops choice. Any other units to be added in may come from the force organization chart as normal.
-An HQ selection is optional, but one model must serve as your force's leader.
-No models may have more than two wounds. No ordnance weapons allowed. This includes Tyranid weaponry that use the large template to hit.
-No vehicle may have a combined armor value (Front + Side + Rear) of greater than 33.
-There are no 2+ saves allowed by any model.
-No invulnerable saves allowed. Even those incurred naturally, such as Dark Eldar Wyches.
-Forced selections will be suspended. (For example: A Space Wolves force must take one HQ for every 750 points, Ravenwing bike squads need to have Sammael to be troops selections, Imperial Guard must have a command platoon, etc.)
-Land Speeder Variants, Raiders and Sentinels will be limited to 0-2.
-Ravagers are limited to 0-1.
-Max model count of 25. (30 For Imperial Guard)

Scenarios:

The standard "Combat Patrols" Scenario is the default game to play, though there are three other options to choose from, if the players would like to switch up play styles to some variety. They are as follows:

1) Fog of War: (Nightfight, Reserves, spotting distance 8", Random Game Length, And total darkness- Anything moving more than 6" has to take a difficult terrain test to avoid hitting something in the darkness. Against vehicles roll 2D6, one double 1's it takes an immediate glancing hit. Jump infantry and bikes take dangerous terrain rolls.)

Escape off the other side of the board with at least one unit. If neither side achieves this, victory points work as normal. The unit moving off the board must have spotted an enemy unit (to tell them what's there!) Scoring units are above 25%.

2) Cleanse!: (Reserves, Deep Strike, Infiltrate, table corners)

Each table corner captured at the end of the game is worth 200 extra VP, in addition to whatever VP have been scored as normal.

3) The Runner: (Alpha, Dusk & Dawn, Strategy Rating)

The runner: WS4, BS2, S3, T4, W2, I2 LD10, SV3+

Defender must escort the messenger across the board to the opposing table edge. Must get within 4". If he's killed, the attacker wins. If he's in the 4" zone, the defender wins. If neither condition is met, award victory points as normal.

Scoring:

Scores will be determined in three categories:

1) Outcome of the game. Each match will be worth a total of 20 points. A win will be worth 15 points, a Draw 10 and a Loss, 5.
-Completing the objective in a scenario is worth an additional 5 points. In the event of a standard combat patrols mission, the objective will be to reduce all units below 50% and eliminate the enemy leader.

2) Painting. Painting will be worth 10 points and will be judged on a standard Rogue Trader score sheet.

3) Sportsmanship and Army Composition. SaAS will be worth 10 points. Up to five points for sportsmanship and up to five points for Army Composition. (IE: Was this a fun army to play against or was it designed to be cheesy and win?)

Total: 40 Points.

Playing:

Three games are to be played over the course of the con. Try not to play the same opponent twice, though I understand sometime it's a must. There isn't a set time to play these yet, so feel free to link up on the boards. I'll also be putting up a "Who's here and when" board in the gaming room.

There will be a score sheet box that I'll collect the results from in the gaming room. I'll clear this with the game room staff as the time draws closer. In the event this isn't a great idea, I'll collect the score sheets manually during the convention.

All games are to be played by Sunday at noon, so get crackin and have fun!

Remember- These games are designed to be played in 40 minutes. They're designed to be quick and fun, a perfect distraction after all the events have been played out and you're bored on Friday night.

For any other questions, post em up here and I'll get back to you quickly! Prizes are to come in various forms. More will be told when I get more information.

***New***

Player sheets will be posted on the AC Message board on the third floor near the zoo under "W". For game times, please leave notes and responses along with rooms and other contact information. I'll be arriving late Thursday afternoon and will post them up then along with my room and cell phone number. If you need to contact me before AC, my AIM SN is my username here.

Yeah, I might play, if I think to bring the minis, but I am flying out, so its hard to bring them, and also, I don't have time to paint before AC, I have to get Studio Maki's website going. And I dun' like playing with unpainted when paint matters, but if you can get me a time machine or something, sign me back up =)

I think it's probably best if you take my name off the list; I just don't see myself having time to play. I'll still offer up the prizes that I offered earlier, however.

Looks like it's just the four of us... More than enough to have fun on a time budget. I think I'm going to rock out with my thousand sons to celebrate once last time before the codex gets changed.

I would love to get in on this battle since, barring an act of Gork, I'll be able to make it to AC this year. I have one question though. Are space mariens allowed to field bikes since the turbo boost rule turns their armor save into an invulterable save for that round? I was wondering since you mentioned Ravenwing bike squads.

Yes, bikes, jetbikes and sisters of battle acts of faith are permitted.

Silverhand's picture

Whoot! Then the mysterious marines of the Penitent Chapter shall drop in from the scout ship Celeriter. Ye' gods, it's going to be marine on marine isn't it.

NallTWD's picture

Website: [Link]

Not really... Whatcha got? roll your own marine chapter? (And "Carry the Emperor's Light as your Torch" is illegal, as it gives you a full time six up ward save.

Silverhand's picture
Location: Fairborn Ohio

No, nothing like that, I used the chapter traits in the marine codex. I have the Be Swift As The Wind advantage (bike squads can count as troops as long as I have 5 models in the squad or elites as long as I pay for the tank hunter or furious assault veteran skills, and all bike squads can take expert rider for +2 per model) and the Death Before Dishonour drawback (opposing player can get an extra turn on 4+ roll should they want it). Other then that I'm codex normal, only a minor divergence. I just like to sound dramatic, that and my guys avoid the inquisition like the plague so....

You got it. Info updated.

Hey one more question... looking at building my army list... i know the rules if 400 is there a small tolerence for that... cause im looking at 404 right now and i was wondering if that would be an issue

NallTWD's picture
Location: Boston, MA

Website: [Link]

Afraid not... Trust me... The nasty sorcerous combo that I had worked up was horrifyingly brutal, but it put me two points over. With combat patrols, every point counts, so I'm going to have to say 400 is a strict rule.

Vidaroke's picture
Location: Elyria Ohio

ok one more question... Phase out rule for necrons...still in effect???

NallTWD's picture
Location: Boston, MA

Website: [Link]

Ya know, I was thinking about that.
Chances are, you're not going to blow the intense amount of points on a lord with an orb when you need bodies like immortals, flayers and warriors first and foremost. Since they're not fearless, I'll go ahead and say since they're supposed to be a light patrolling unit that the rule is suspended.

Plus get back up is no better than feel no pain with death company...

Vidaroke's picture
Location: Elyria Ohio

Ok yeah hehe wasnt planning on going with a lord... he is far from worth in a skirmish of this size... warriors and immortals is what ill carry in to battle

So far my force is the only one that wont be carring bolters Sticking out tongue

Hey furs, I'm sad to say it, but you guys gotta scrap me off the play list. I unexpectedly got posted in Fort Knox for a month, and I only recently got back, and was unable to get my army ready. Since my free time only permits about one night of building a week, it's not gonna be ready for play. You guys have fun, and I'll probably swing by just to ogle at other peoples models.

Hey! If they're built, play them up! I don't think we're gonna hold unpainted models against anyone...

Hey folks! Bad news, but not terrible news.

Our local GW Bunker here in Boston was just axed. As a vet gamer there and a former employee, this meant tons of free stuff on the way out, but all of our terrain was boxed up and sent off to other stores.

What I propose is that everyone bring a small piece of creative terrain with them to make things interesting. I'm thinking of making something fun and disposable so no worries about it getting lost or damaged. Thoughts?

BlackJokerFox's picture

I've got a question, since we're suspending some requirements like the IG needing a command platoon, how will the advisors rule work? If I don't have my command platoon I can't put my Commissars into the army.

The way it works is that if I want either a comissar, psyker or priest in the army, I have to have one in the command platoon first, so that if I wish to have say a second commissar to attach to a infantry platoon

NallTWD's picture
Location: Boston, MA

Website: [Link]

As the HQ rules are suspended, so are the requirements. I've asked GW's HQ about that one (the other day actually) and they mentioned in a combat patrol, a junior command squad will henceforth count as a command platoon.

The reasoning is this is a light patrol or scouting force that's designed to act quickly and responsively to any encountered threat. I could definitely see a commissar leading, making sure the lines are safe, a priest delivering a fiery oratory to inspire the men or a psyker attempting to divine a threat. Do it up.

Hey do you have to play? can some one secsate if thay wis? I have been thinking of playing but i heard its a very hard game and i would like 2 c 4 ma self.

I imagine that would be up to the players who are playing the particular match you would like to spectate. Just ask them when you see them; they'll probably say yes.

To re-iterate, especially since interest in this has grown, I'm still offering two prizes for this competition; one single-character digitally colored commission to first place, one single-character traditionally inked commission for last place. You can, of course, pony up the cash for stuff like backgrounds and additional characters if you so wish.

It's not something you can just pick up and play. It requires a lot of planning, time, effort, artistic skill and various other things you'll read about on that page. I'm sorry for being forward, but this close to AC I have to cut back on posts in this thread that aren't about players.
