So would I be Welcome?
Not really asking - from what I've seen you guys seem pretty cool with new peeps. I just wanted a catchy title XD
The short of it is, I'm not a furry. I'm a die hard cosplayer who has discovered that mascot style costumes are so much more fun then the usual dressing up. A furry friend suggested fur suiting to me and I said "Why the heck not?" I love crowds, so the biggest con there is seems like a great place to jump in.
So I guess my biggest question is, how much is there at the con (program-wise or otherwise) for someone who isn't really a part of the fandom? I love to wander around in costume, but that gets kinda exhausting if you try and do all day. XD
Also, it hard to find people to hang out with at the con? Y'all seem like friendly people, but I have super sporadic wireless so it gets really hard to keep in touch with people online. Hence hard to meet people unless it's in person.
Thirdly, and not really importantly- Are partial suits (the ones with head/arms/legs- I think partial is the term?) allowed in the fur suit games? in the videos on YouTube everyone seems to be wearing the full body ones. I want to join!
Those'r my questions! Many thanks to anyone who can help me out!
What he said. [points up]
And if you have trouble finding friends to hang out with, i highly recommend:
--Going to panels that interest you, especially social ones. Quite often, a panel can provide an opportunity for folks with similar interests to meet and connect. If there's something fun going on in the tabletop gaming room--apples to apples, for instance, or fluxx--a silly game is a great way to connect to folks.
--Dropping by the zoo. The zoo is our standard hangout room, and many of the folks there are happy to meet a new friend in the midst of chatting with their current ones. Just walk over to some folks and say something friendly like, "Hi, i'm new to the con" or, "Hey, neat art badge."
--Volunteering. Oh my little heathen gods, volunteering. The con simply wouldn't happen without its burgeoning squad of volunteers, all happy to trade a few hours of light work for a t-shirt or free registration to next year's con. My experience is that these volunteers--and the staff who were once volunteers themselves--can be some of the nicest, friendliest people you'll ever meet. In fact, many of them volunteer specifically because doing some simple task with a few other folks for a while is an easy way to make new friends. Just drop by con ops and say "Hi, can i be helpful somewhere?"
Hey sounds like you're just like me! I'm more of a costume enthusiast as well. I hope meet everyone at 2012's AC, so perhaps I'll see you there! There are plent of things for a non-furry like you and I can do, from what I've heard, and from what the others above me posted.
I Hope At AC 2012 I Make Many Friends Though This will Be My Very First Con I Am Extremely Excited And Also i Will Be Very Shy
Greetings and welcome to those newbies!
I'm curious as to what Kaprica's costume is. I'd like to see it at AC one day. I was a newb this year and totally agree with desteredra.
There is also the Tiger's Den, which has computers with free internet so you can keep in touch with your friends that way as well. If you get too exhausted in suit, there are rooms to cool down in with water and fans.
Do you play video games?

Welcome! You can check out the programming schedule at https://www.anthrocon.org/node/6850/anthrocon-2011-programming-schedule and see if there's anything you'd find interesting. Some of the costuming panels would apply to more than just fursuits, such as prosthetics, makeup, electronics, etc. There are also musical and comedy performances that would appeal to more than just furry fans (although there may be some inside jokes or references). And there are videogame and tabletop gaming rooms, as well as dances every night.
