There are going to be jerks everywhere you go in life, and if you allow yourself to be bothered that much, you'll never really enjoy anything.
But from my experience, furry cons are host to some of the most accepting and friendly people I've ever met.
You shouldn't be dealing with people who are mean to you in the first place. Just stick with those who are nice. You can still go to anime cons and have a good time. You just have to find the right people to meet with and stick to. Not all anime fans are jerks.
As for furry fandom, everyone is welcome to be part of it. You'll definitely find a lot of friendly people in the fandom.
Greetings, Silent!
Yes, I believe that people tend to be more friendly at Furry Cons than at Anime Cons, overall - but any particular experience can run counter to the general trend.
There are several universal truths about Fandom - universal in that they exist across all types and elements of the individual fan groups. One of these truths is that some fans are Jerks. Another is that most fans are NOT Jerks. The Dedicated Jerks tend to attract each other, because only fellow Jerks find being a Jerk to be Cool.
Oh, you will run into the odd Lone Jerk now and then - but only if he or she doesn't spot you first. Lone Jerks don't really like company around them, particularly company which seems to be having fun without having to be Jerks about it.
Fortunately, Most Furry Conventions - and particularly AnthroCon - have a relatively low Jerk content. Committed Fans of any stripe tend to focus on having fun with the things that they are fans of, while Jerks are never really that committed, and eventually they fall away and drop out, and find other avenues in which to risk getting beat up indulge in their Jerkiness.
There are two Commandments for Fans (well, actually, there are a whole bunch o' them, but most of them aren't important to this thread) that it would be wise to remember:
1) Thou Shalt Try to Not be Annoying
2) Thou Shalt Not be Too Easily Annoyed
If every fan were to recite these commandments to themselves before leaving their hotel room and keep them in their hearts, then everyone would have a better chance at having a pretty good time, and everyone could be friends.
So come to AnthroCon - or any other Furry Convention - and help reinforce the trend!
Good Luck!
Like everyone else said, most people are friendly at AC. You may come across someone who's not, but if that happens, just ignore that person and spend your time with those with whom you feel comfortable. I'm sure you'll meet plenty of nice people at AnthroCon.
*Charline de Lyon nods!* We're all very friendly here! *giant toothy lion grin!* SO FRIENDLY!!! D:
Welcome.
hi! well, there are always going to be jerks, no matter where you go.... But from what ive seen,at AC and other places, for the most part furries are very nice people, energetic and fun to be around...me included! My first year at AC last year was a blast, everyone was friendly and helpful.
it's like in every day life, you'll always find someone that is just miserable, grumpy and probably not a pleasure to be around but it's wise in my opinion to take into account that they might not have gotten enough sleep, are suffering from con crud or are just having a bad day and try to be friendly to them even if they arent being entirely accomodating to you and if they push you away accept that they dont want any interaction on move forward with your day, there will ALWAYS be more cheerful people than there are grumps.
Hi Silent, well I want to say to you .... that like you, I have not been to AC, I am very excited to go to my first, I also am getting my first partial suit made to look like my late dog Bandit, so he will be "one of a kind"... due to financial constraints I can only get a partial suit for now, just the head, sleeves, hand paws and tail. I also want to enforce what all the others have said... I too asked all those questions to a furry that lives close to me and he also said that it's what you make it, and 99.99999999% of furry's will welcome you with big ole furry hugs, so come on up from down south and see what kinda welcome us Pennsylvanians can give you.... have a ball !
Hello to all. It is from experience that AC was by far the friendliest con I have been to. I have been to 2 anime cons. 2011 AC was the first time I’ve gone to Furry con. Long story as to why I went, but after my first day there and a night of rest from surprise and shock that I went through from my friend leaving me alone, I had fun. I do hope to go back for 2012. I have noticed that there was more to do there than the anime ones by far.

Havent gone yet but I see myself as nice, plan to go 2012 hope to see you there.
Heaven, were is my angel? I need her now. Holding me.
