Okay so that didn't work... The tape ripped the foam apart and didn't want to come off. Any other suggestions?

Ouch.  May have been due to the type that you were using.  Maybe it had a stronger adhesive on it that stuck the the foam a little too well.  Maybe using a different tape that is not as sticky might help.  If you try a different tape I would suggest that you try it out on a scrap piece of foam to make sure it doesn't stick too much.  When I did my head I believe I used tape directly to the foam and didn't have this problem.  One other suggestion I would make is to cover the foam with cling wrap before putting the tape on.  This will protect the foam from the adhesive on the tape.  Just make sure the the cling wrap is formed nicely against the foam.

No part of fursuit making is easy or predictable. You will mess up, it is a given and I pretty much accept that fact before I begin every head, it is time consuming and difficult. As for the tape, the trick is to stick it to your clothes first to get the worst of the nap calmed down and it makes a dandy lint remover in the process, if like me, your covered in loose fur from the cutting process it works out well. You need to peel if off slowly and push down on the foam if needed to hold it down while pulling up the tape and whatever you do, dont leave the tape on overnight, then it really will be hard to get it off.

We need another and wiser, perhaps a more mystical concept of animals.Remote form universal nature and living by complicated artifice, man in civilization surveys the creature through the glass of his knowledge, we patronize them, and therefore we err,

use masking tape it will come off the foam very easily and it's easyer to apply than ducktape. (im talking about when the tape sticks to itself and you try to pull it apart it will come un stuck but ducktape will stick to itself and not come apart. masking tape savesa lot more tape.)
