Hi Boomkin! Here is the registration page. It should have everything you want to know!

And no, you do not receive your badge in the mail. At the convention, there is a line for the on-site registrants, and another line for those who pre-registered online to to pick up their badges. Pre-registering is less expensive Eye-wink

I recommend reading the entire FAQ, and rereading it afterwards for what you forgot or missed, when you're new.

In all fairness, however, this specific question is not addressed in the FAQs that I can see, so he may have already done exactly that. So, I shall reply.

On-site Registration is the refuge of all those who were unable to pre-register, or who were able to pre-register but were foolish enough to NOT pre-register. If you do on-site registration, you go when it's open, and get on a VERY long line for 45 minutes-2 hours. Then you get to the front of the line and have to enter all your information, pay, present ID, and wait for your badge to be produced. THEN the process ends (your badge and registration packet is handed to you, and you leave.)

If, instead, you wisely choose to pre-register, then you pay less money, and fill out your information long before the convention (and get your confirmation# immediately, followed by a letter in the mail with your confirmation.) When registration opens at AnthroCon, you then walk up to the VERY long line of people waiting to on-site register, then walk PAST that line, feeling sorry for all those people. Then you get in a VERY short line for pre-registration. In 30 secounds-2 minutes, you're at the front of the line being helped. You present ID, they hand over your ID badge and registration packet, and you leave.

The reason pre-registration is so much faster is that they know you're coming months in advance, and have lots of time to print out your badge, prepare your stuff, etc. Then it's sorted by your last name, and is relatively easy to find. So, you present ID and pick up stuff, then leave. Everything else was done in bulk, before that day.

So, no matter what, all convention registration stuff and badges are picked up at the convention.

Everyone's mentioned things well, I will add one point of claritifacation: You will, then Pre-registered, have a checkbox which states 'I do not want a physical receipt'. If you want a receipt mailed to you for confirmation of registration, we can mail you one; in either case you'll get an email about it. They key information on both is your Badge Number.- in case there's a problem, a badge number is unambiguous information.

I think the confusion is that some conventions mail out badges.Anthrocon does not. They do mail out a confirmation paper.

I have a question about registration. If I pre-register now, can I get a refund if it turns out that I can't make it?

From the Registration FAQ to the left:

  • I just realized I cannot go. Can I get a refund?
  • Yes. Refund requests can be handled by sending us email until the close of pre-registration, which is at 12:01 AM, June 2nd. After that point, we will be unable to offer refunds. Please include your real name, badge name, and badge number in the email. If you cannot attend the convention, you must tell us prior to June 2nd. Anthrocon cannot defer nor transfer memberships after that date. Due to the need for strict accounting, credit card refunds will be performed in monthly batches, on or shortly before the 15th of each month.
