haha, I took care of pre registering the day it opened, if I remember correctly, but I seem to recall the accuracy of your statements, based on working with pre-registered attendees last year 
As we watched the mile long on-site registration line wind back and forth with those who did not pre-register...

Heh re: the poem about pre-regging. I actually went to AC 2011, and I paid "at the door". I didn't wait at all, though, despite the warning. I guess I came kinda early (arrived late morning on Friday). I guess I'm real lucky. By the way, I had to leave early the next morning.
Anyway, I pre-reg'd this time. Now the hardest part: finding roomies (for a hotel room. I know practically nobody at all! (I know only Wakewolf, Malemwolf and Boxice, maybe one more I forgot, and that's it! I haven't contacted them re: rooming yet)...so this time I can get the full 4 days at the con

I got my Supersponsorship in quite awhile ago now, though I didn't really get the early bird price since I just donated the $5 to the con anyway. I'm pretty much all set for AC and my first international trip outside Australia.
woot for dragons from down under ^^ i hope i can manage to feel all set by the time the con rolls around. though living barely a state or two away from the con, i'm one of those last minute people, so even doin things early i feel rushed at the teeth of it ^^;
