Did anybody else not realize until recently that AC falls right on Father's Day?  I know the reason they had to push it back was because Pittsburgh has been essentially dying to host the NHL draft for years and obviously that will hold more precedence over AC so we had to get pushed back a week.

But having it go over Father's Day may also provide some difficulties for many people. Myself included as I have father's day traditions and such.  Just kind felt like noting this and hopefully letting some people who may not have realized it falls over Father's Day know as well.

We realized this indeed when the City of Pittsburgh made us the offer and asked us to move. It's one of the small downsides to the move a week earlier. The benefits of the increased hotel rooms and some other perks given Anthrocon, as well as our desire to be a helpful part of an excellent city that's supporting us, made it worth it.

We'll try to remind everyone to give their dad a call that day. Or buy them a membership and bring them along. Smiling

I didn't realize until now. I guess I'll have to bring a gift along for my hubby. Usually, we're driving to AC on Father's Day.

May I suggest that I would be willing to try to have a panel for that occasion? I and my hubby will have our kids with again...and we certainly could come up with some ideas with the gang going along with us. then if others want to bring younger ones along they already know they arent the only ones...some kind of Father's day thing perhaps...

I think that's an excellent notion, as part of our Children's track at Anthrocon. Drop a line to programming-2012 AT anthrocon.org about hosting it.

May I in silly fashion suggest "Happy Fur-ther's Day!" for a panel name?

I'd bring mine, but I'm not sure if he'd be up to working the Art Show with me!

Yeah I'm not saying that it was intentionally scheduled like this. There was no choice and I'm sure if it could've been done on another weekend that didn't have anything going on at all they would have.

I'm just making the point that takes place over Father's Day to also inform others of it as well so they can plan accordingly.  I for example may now have to leave early from AC which is highly unfortunate but might be a reality Sad

Well I've just been basically informed that I will not be able to attend the weekend of AC because of Father's Day.  I'm not going to make my parents hate me for a long time by essentially ditching my parents and ruining a specific annual tradition I have with my father each year (we have run in a town hosted Father's Day 5k run together for the past 10 years.) I may be able to attend Thurs/Friday though but Saturday will be reserved for the 8 hour drive home Sad

As much as we would love to have you at Anthrocon, I agreee that keeping that tradition goign with your father seems much more important.

We know there's some downside to the early date, yes.

On that same note, it doesn't have the prices for single day registration. But in this case, if I'm talking about doing Thurs/Fri/ morning of Saturday, it would probably just make more sense money-wise to register for the full con right?

Whoops! I've fixed that on the registration page. One-Day Registrations are are $30 for Friday, Saturday, or Sunday; we do not offer them for Thursday- so if you're thinking about this plan, it's much more sensible to Pre-register for $50 than to purchase multiple One-Day memberships.

yeah as much as a hassle it may be to drive 8 hours there for what is essentially about 1.5 days of Pittsburgh time, it's the one time year I get to see certain people so it will be worth it. Even though I probably wont' get to see all of them.
