Streak

Hello all.

Now that the hotel and registration rushes have calmed and folks are relatively certain of their attendance this year, we're putting out the official call for equipment and video games to help make the VG room a success this year. Last year, we had quite a few furs ask us "Why don't you have [insert game here]?" or "Why aren't there enough [insert console here] controllers?" The answer is very simple: we rely almost entirely on the generousity of AC's attendees to populate the VG room with the latest and greatest in games, consoles, controllers and tournaents. If the VG room staff doesn't personally own a particular game/console/controller, then the only way it gets to the con is.. YOU! Yes, you! So dust off the copy of Mortal Kombat you beat two weeks after you bought it, or the lonely Game Cube controllers pineing for one more game of Smash and bring them along for the ride!

Items we're chronically short of:
Wii consoles with fully unlocked Super Smash Brothers Brawl
Game Cube controllers (wired or not, we don't mind)
Recent 1v1 fighter games
Furs who want to host a tournament

We make every attempt to keep your games and gear safe! Anything you choose to donate to the VG room for the duration of the con will be marked with a unique id (a little colored sticker) and logged on an inventory sheet that you will receive a copy of. Games are only handled by VG room staff, and furs must checkout controllers using their AC badge.

If you'd like to donate any games or equipment to the VG room, would like to host a tournament, or just have questions, please send me, turtyl or miltoniusprime a PM, reply to this thread or email vg(at)anthrocon.org.

See you all there!
'Kiric

EDIT The Video Game Room  will be in the Butler Room in the Westin Hotel, same as always. We'll be opening the room for donation dropoffs and setup on Thursday from 7 - 9ish, or donations can be brought to the VG any time it's open.

EDIT 2 As of 6 Mar we only have two tournaments confirmed: Rock Band and SSBB. If anyone would like to run any other tournaments in the game room, please send me, Turtyl or MiltoniusPrime a PM with a brief rundown of the rules you'll be using and any equipment/games you need us to track down. In previous years we've had Tetris Attack, Street Fighter 4, Duck Hunt (yes, the NES version ^_^)  and we'd like to have more than just two tournaments this year.

Some awesome fur brought a Kinect last year with a fun mini-game game, and another spacy/shooty/asteroids-type game (titles would be better, but my memory sucks) and I think it was inuse for the majority of the con and very well received. We even tested it with a few fursuiters and the games seemed to pick up their movements very well. Having a Kinect this year would be awesome! ^_^

I think the asteroids game you speak of is Geometry Wars. I'd be glad to bring that again this year if it was well recieved!

I believe she's referring to Child of Eden (which was brought and demoed by a very enthusiastic fan), but feel free to bring Geometry Wars.  I have the first one, but my console will mostly be used for Rock Band or Dance Central.

So far, the list of what I'll be bringing goes like this...

- my 360 (assuming it lives that long, fingers crossed)

- Kinect, along with Kinect Adventures and Fruit Ninja

- Dance Central 2, along with DC1 song export, almost all the DLC from the first game, and whatever I pick up between now and then

- Rock Band 3 for the 360, along with a huge number of DLC (unless I'm once again lent my friend's 360, who has ALL DLC, 3500+ at the moment)

- an assortment of Rock Band and Guitar Hero controllers (also for the 360), two USB mics, the RB3 keyboard and one pro guitar (Mustang)

- two microphone stands (one standard, one boom)

- high-quality HDMI cable

- willing to bring my Wii for Smash Bros. Brawl, and MAYBE, MAYBE three Wavebirds (I know how people handle those controllers during tournaments)

If anyone has them, and is willing to bring them, I'd greatly appreciate donating Xbox 360 Rock Band/Guitar Hero controllers.  I'd love to supply the entire Rock Band setup again, but as someone who plays it on a daily basis, I'd prefer being able to rotate the supply of controllers in and out.  It makes for more options for people who have preferences, and less wear and tear on one specific set of controllers.

Also, at last year's Smash Bros. tournament, we had a tragically low supply of wired Gamecube controllers and Wavebirds, which resulted in a lot of complaining (to us, and among players).  Not many SSBB players prefer using a Wiimote or nunchuck, so if you didn't bring a controller to use (or possibly donate to the room, if you're a saint), you forfeit your right to complain about which controller you get.

The game room runs on donations, so if something isn't donated to us, we won't have it.  Kiric, Turtyl, and I are gamers, and love to see people having fun, but we don't own every game everyone would ever want to play.  If you're thinking about bringing a game, and go "Well, maybe they'll already have that...", STOP AND PLEASE DO NOT THINK THAT.  We'd much rather have extra copies of a game than zero copies.

Ditto on Milt's comment that we'd much rather have extras.. of everything.

Turtyl and I will be bringing our unlocked SSMB, our usual slew of Wii/Gamecube games and controllers and our PS3.

"Unlocked" for our tournament means almost all the characters (megaknight we don't need) and most of the locations. If your save is missing something we need when you get to AC, we can set it up and put up a sign saying what needs to be unlocked. There's usually a few furs around willing to do that before the tournament.

It's not so much that he's bad.. the official SSMB tournament rules (yes, there is such a beast) bans his cape move because it grants momentary invulnerability and can be exploited. We're not going to watch the matches that closely (and I wouldn't recognize it even if I saw it) so we're just banning him altogether. We'll have a sign with the full set of rules right next to the tourney signups so everyone can check them out.

Edit: My bad. I went and looked up the rules so I could post the link, and it seems that they changed to just banning Meta Knight entirely. The rule in question is about halfway down the General Rules section.

- No bad match-ups. Most of the cast are either 50/50 or below on MK's favor.

- no Bad stages: He rapes everywehre no matter what stage

- Can Camp: Once a MK has the lead on stock, he can go around till the time is up.

- most of the his move can kill at 50%: Down Smash and Up-B. Natural Air

- can gimp most of the staff: if he throws you off the ledge, he can follow it with a down air.

and ect.

there were other reason, just don't remember all of them. Hope this helps. Sleigiar. :3

Let me see what I can smuggle onto the plane with me.  I'd bring more but luggage being what it is; probably a few GameCube controllers is the best I can offer, but it's something!

Is there any call for a Classic Controller for Brawl?  I have an original and a Pro, and the Pro's quite a pad.

Gamecube controllers seem to be favored by most SSMB-ers (and they're easy to toss into luggage!). I think there have been a few people who asked for classics, but they're in the far minority. Having a pro classic around might be useful though ^_^

The Wii and XBox would be awesome. Any games that fit into the fighter genre (BlazBlue, Street Fighter, SSBB, etc) or mini-game (Rayban) or anything that doesn't require sitting down for several hours in order to get anywhere are all great to play.

May I ask what we'd be "just ask"ing?  Do you work for some kind of game-supplying group?  The convention supplies TVs to the video game room, so no worries about that.

Well..we had offered to bring all our systems to furstivus between us and our best friend. So that means 3 ps3, 2 Wii, 2 xbox360, and we do have the Kinect and the ps move systems, rockband and guitar hero ssetups, and some gamecube and nintendo stuff. And we did bring our computers to set up minecraft on a LAN. We have a fair number of different games and our controllers. But no..we dont have a gaming supply group..just that between the 3 of us and my and WhiteLion's little ones..well we have a fair amount of games. And our best friend does work for a toy and game company...

I had sent a suggestion to KP that perhaps since our kids will be with us we could set up some of our stuff that is very kid friendly for any younger attendees and we would be willing to help watch over that. Maybe so the younger ones can play and not get in the way of any hard core gamers wanting a tournament.

I am sure we are not as hardcore gamers as many others..but..we have a fair amount between all of us. We would be willing to help but we need to plan all the packing since it may change how we travel out.

If our help is desired, well please contact us and we will see what we can help with.

You're more than welcome to bring what you want to bring.  If someone expresses a particular interest in a particular game (like me with Rock Band, others with DDR or various fighters) and has most/all DLC associated with it, we tend to let that person provide the game and their console.  Why limit your selection?

As far as bringing children with you, the video game room tends to give off an air of PG-13, meaning you might hear some salty language/smack talk.  In the seven years I've been lurking/playing games/volunteering, I've yet to see a group of small children arrive and be shocked by the lack of "kid-friendly" games, and nobody has ever came forth and complained about the room being "too mature" or vulgar (at least not to me).  If the crowd reaction during tournaments is any indication (when we have to clear out everyone who isn't participating in the tournament), it probably wouldn't be a good idea to set aside a few hours for games appealing to small children.

If you want to bring something for others to play, and have the room, bring that.  But don't bring EVERYTHING if it's going to cause packing issues.

Hiya Sunil.  Milt, these fine folks helped us stock and staff Furstivus' game room over last new years. TVs you definitely don't need to bring; the con owns what we need in that department. Consoles and controllers are always needed ^_^

I haven't heard anything from KP about setting up something in a different space, but we might be able to double up on one of the tables. They're not all usually in use all the time, and we can always move things around a bit if demand calls for something different.

I think incorporating games that can be played by any age is a great idea, I just thought it sounded like they would prefer certain times be dedicated to a family atmosphere, the kind of place where they wouldn't have to worry about seeing violence/gore or hearing any cursing.

I was also wondering if their offer was to stock/set up the entire room, like some businesses do at various conventions.  Some of those groups can be a bit strict on what games they allow to be played on their setups, or the swapping of certain controllers (in regards to Rock Band/Guitar Hero controllers, or arcade sticks for fighters).  I wouldn't want someone coming in and getting upset that everything wasn't in the same order it was when set up.

Last year I witnessed someone setting up/playing a PC-based fighting game on a projector in the Zoo, which drew a bit of a crowd and was handled very well.  I don't doubt the same could be done for other games in other areas, if time and space allowed it.

I also heard some one wanted more kid frandly games and I have Pikmin 2 or Billy Hatcher that are vary kid frandly. I also got SSBM and SSBB I think they are both all the way unlocked but I havent played in a while so they might not be.

As this list starts getting longer, please keep this in mind:

Even if someone on this list wants to bring something that you're also offering, please, bring it with you if you can.  There's always a chance that person might not be able to make it, and we'd rather have more copies of something that we need than not enough.  After last year, I'd love to see eight Wiis magically appear in the game room in time for the Smash Bros. tournament.

And thank you all for supporting the video game room!

I've got a fully unlocked SSBB Wii (all legit), four wired Gamecube controllers, and three wii-mote/nunchuk combos I'd be willing to pitch in, since that's the big one you said you're looking for. I saw the security rules so that's really comforting.

If requested or needed, I'd bring a PS3 with Tekken 6 and any other multiplayer games I pick up by then, and two wireless controllers (one's the weird rocketfish one), an Xbox 360 with Soul Calibur IV (fully unlocked) and some other multi games and three wireless controllers, a Gamecube with some version of Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance and some other multiplayer games like Bomberman, an N64 with SSB original, Turok Rage Wars, and Pokemon Stadium 1&2 (all fully unlocked) and four controllers, and a SNES (or two) with UMK3 and some other games and two or four controllers depending on if I bring one or two SNES's.

Yay, more SSBB and controllers ^_^ For the other equipment, the games you mentioned down through the Gamecube section would be great. We should have the consoles available to play them. If you have extra space, I'd say bring along the XBox. It's always nice to have a spare. I don't think you need to bring the older consoles.. they don't seem to get much play time (with the notable exception of the Duck Hunt tournament last year)

Hmmm seeing how it is going to be my first time AC, I figured I might end up in the game room, had a couple ideas that might appeal to folks here, though admitedly that means going to war with the dustbunnies in my consol gaming closet. From the easy to pick up and play crowd i've got a lot of older fighting games, but what hasn't been mentioned were

MarioKart Wii and Double Dash both seem like they'd be easy enough for the pick up and play crowd

Rampage (think I still have the vastly superior Gamecube version) is a classic for those of a macro bent

Would probally be able to find at least one gamecube controler, if i find more i'll donate some(assuming the ol luggage can take it

An aside...someone ELSE remembers turok rage wars? Dang, thought i was the only one

Supplies update: I'm willing to bring my big box of NES/SNES games, as well as an FC Twin (dual NES/SNES console) and two SNES controllers.  I would prefer to be present when games are switched, however, as the FC Twin tends to get a good grip on cartridges, and I can't trust that everyone knows the proper technique for removing them.

I'd also be happy to run a quick Tetris Attack tournament, though if anyone else displayed greater interest (or preferred running a different version or on a different console), they could take over running it, since I'll be running/involved with a few other events.

Hey hey! I'd love to bring in an Xbox360 (New black model), a single wireless controller (sorry! >.<) with charge and play cable, as well as a single copy of Gears of War 3 (if you guys have no qualms about gore and language) and a requested fighting game perhaps? I was thinking something along the lines of either Blazblue: Continuum Shift, Ultimate Marvel v. Capcom 3, or Soul Calibur 5. I've been meaning to purchase one of these 3, so I dont mind making a few furs happy by giving them a choice. Eye-wink
