Anthrocon 2011 279

Hey, everyone! I've got this list right here and it's got all the DJs on it. Let me preface this by saying holy crap this has been the toughest year by far. I got way too many good auditions. Way too many. This whole process has been utterly excruciating - there is simply not enough time in the dances to fit in everyone I wanted to fit.

Without further ado, the DJs are:

  • Rory
  • DJ Meph
  • Cheetah.de
  • Dan Veytia
  • Big Blue Fox
  • Firr
  • Protocollie
  • Oddy
  • Genki
  • Dragonboy
  • Draconum
  • Renard

I have the order pretty much sorted, with a few more minor tweaks, that'll be coming in a day or two.

Thanks to everyone who sent in auditions; I'm sorry if you didn't make it, and don't take it personally. There were a ridiculous number of good demos. I'm going to be tweaking this process a lot next year to make it easier for me and to keep it from being dragged out this long - this year has been a learning experience after all is said and done.

This year's gonna be epic, guys. Looking forward to it. Smiling

Congrats one and all!

I'm just gonna throw this out there:  If it's okay with the DJs who will be performing this year, would it be possible to post links to their audition sets?  I know I'd love to hear what everyone else is doing, and for new/upcoming DJs it could be a great experience to hear the kind of stellar work being done by the cream of the crop.  :D

Just an idea...

Can someone explain how can I contain one of those fanzy glow sticks at the dances!? Last year it was tough getting one. I think I would have to show up early or so XD

Many people bring their own glow sticks. I've seen them handed out by some cons, but I don't believe I have ever noticed it at AC.

I know in the past some generous people have brought boxes of glow sticks to give out, but they go fast. It's unlikely the con will ever provide them because, well, the budget is pretty well busted after paying to rent all the flashy lights, sound system, staging and other equipment, labor to set it up and take it apart, and the rental on the ballroom itself.

i've seen giza with huge piles of animal-print glowsticks in the past, but not for a couple years.

We provided them in the past, but as Charlie said, the budget got in the way.  They went so fast we couldn't keep up with the demand, and we can't afford to provide quite that many.

i don't think we have an official glowstick donation protocol.

i'd suggest you just show up at the dance and hand them out.

As for glowsticks, I gave out 1500 this past AC (2012).

And they do fly quickly when they are free!

It's not like they're rare or valuable items. Check your local costume shop and your local party and novelty stores. (Some stores are all 3.) Ask the staff. Any of those are likely to have some. Depending
on the neighborhood, little bargain stores or stores that sell a little of everything and are run by
immigrants trying to make a living may have them, too- or stores close to dance clubs.

MOST AC ATTENDEES DO NOT WEAR A FURSUIT OR ANY FORM OF COSTUME.

I would like to take this opportunity to offer an expansion upon Cosmik's idea regarding posting links to the audition sets.  I kindly request the consideration of a live recording of the set that each DJ plays during the convention dance itself for publishing and sharing online.  Though, if it is of less convenience to record live, I would adore a simple tracklist of the songs selected and played during each set.

I think this is a goal every year, and I know several of the DJs do this independently. Historically we have tried to record everything from the sound booth, but that's only worked out a couple years. I'll definitely make sure to impress upon the DJs that they should personally record their sets, because I agree - it's absolutely awesome to have a recording of their live sets Smiling

We've got at-the-board recording covered this year. Multi-track (16 channels @ 24-bit/48KHz). I'll make sure it starts recording ~10 minutes before ever major event. Smiling

Hey everyone,

I'm looking at the list above, and trying to figure out which DJs that will be most to my taste. Maybe some of you out there know more about the musical stylings of the ladies and gentlefurs listed, and can give me a few pointers?

Here's the situation: My favourite music to dance to is oldies and cheese, by far. (No, I don't care about my "hipness factor" or "street cred." Sticking out tongue ) In the past I have much enjoyed YappyFox's sets at the fursuit friendly dance, and also what I heard from Alphawolf on the main stage.

Which DJs should I not miss this year, and when are they playing?

I answered this in another thread but you'll want to hit rory's set at the main dance, and then yappy's fursuit friendly dance.

Awesome that Yappy is back!

For some reason, I've always missed out on Rory's sets in past years, but I've heard good things about them. I'll make sure to check him out this year (assuming his slot doesn't clash with Yappy's DJing. Sticking out tongue ). Thanks for the advice!
