Annual reminder: CONFIRM YOUR HOTEL RESERVATION!
Do it. Do it now.
Entry errors are made. Names get misspelled. First names are put in as last names and vice-versa. It's rare, but it does happen, and chances are it will happen to YOU. Better to get things sorted out ahead of time than to arrive at the hotel and be told, "we can't find your reservation."
...And if you happen to make (or confirm) your reservation by telephone, ask the customer service rep to send a confirmation copy to your e-mail address...which should also be a part of your reservation. If you have a smartphone which allows access to your e-mail account, you can access the e-mail and any attachments, and then store it in the phone's memory for later reference.
If you do not have such a phone, make a point of printing out a copy of the confirmation message, and bring it with you!
In any event - as Uncle Kage said, confirm your reservation now; and if you get a copy, look over it in detail, to make sure that you are getting the AnthroCon Rate, and that the dates of your occupancy are correct, as well as any stated preferences. It should also confirm that you have paid a deposit for the first night - handy when you receive the bill on checking out!
Small tips: If you have GMail, tag your travel and hotel reserverations "FurCons" so you don't loose 'em.
A week before the con, print out those reservations. They will save your butt if you get into trouble (and end up with a Uncle Kage style story to tell).
Gotta agree with everyone here, Already have printed out confirmation pages for both my hotels(ended up staying an extra night to go home monday rather than struggle racing to the airport on sunday. Also many airlines ask that you print out your confirmation/registration before you go to the airport, adding a fee to speak to a person.
Guess this might be a bit off an aside question/ comment, having a second form of phot ID can't hurt in case you happen to loose one, even with the nicest folks, and cities, picked pockets DO happen... and having a ID backup can make airline travel much easier(use my old learners permit for example, its got the ol picture, offical look, sure its not techincally in date but far better than nothing..
U know when I registered back on the fist day (FEB2 for the Westin)) and spoked to one of the customer services, their tuone sounded like there were tired or depressed. My guess is that they were probably handling to many calls or something. It was in the morning and they didnt seemed joyfuled or fairly minded. In this result I believed it caused them to mispelled my last name wrong. but everything else is okay. I dont really like the option of reserving online because you dont get alot of specific choices when reserving for the hotels then when you call in. + when I was reserving I had a tight schedulae in RL on that day. school, home chores etc.
Done and done. Everything is sorted out, dates are confirmed, thunderbirds are go.
Seriously, this isn't a bad idea. You should all do it too. Including you. Yeah, you, sitting there reading this right now. Go confirm. It'll only take a minute.
I recommend the service TripIt for tracking hotel reservations.
When you get an emailed confirmation for a hotel, flight, rental car, or whatever, just forward it to the email address plans@tripit.com. They'll parse that email and store it in their system. It's great for keeping track of all trip-related aspects. Plus, they have a mobile app for when you're on the road. I've found it very very useful for keeping track of travel plans.
Checked and doublechecked, everything is sorted and ready. All that's left is to plan the route to get around Chicago in the quickest time possible. (( Our highways are an absolute mess right now, if anybody is driving from up north please keep that in mind, there's roadworks going on day and night. Just a friendly heads up
)) But if anybody reading this hasn't confirmed their hotel reservation, take Istanbul's advice. You never know.
See you all there!
Crap, I accidently posted twice, sorry about that. Can someone tell me how to delete a post?

An addition: Get your reservation number! If your ID says "Samuel Conway" and the reservation says your name is "Samuel C. Onway" it's a lot easier to convince the desk clerk that a mistake's been made when they have the same reservation number.
(Verified my reservation two months ago...)
