I just got off the phone with a very nice lady at the Westin (she also is only the third person to ever see my name on paper and pronounce it correctly!). I just called to confirm my reservation was still in the system (and I'll be doing so one more time just before the convention. I figured if there was a problem, now would give me more time to deal with it).

While I was at it, I added the names of my fellow furs whom will be staying with me. I figured that way after I check in, they can approach the counter and obtain a keycard without having to track me down. Other roomholders take note!

I'm just posting this as a reminder to the furs that it is a good idea to confirm ahead of time that your reservation is still intact. Miscommunications and mistakes happen and the earlier they are caught, the easier they are to solve. Although it should be sufficient to confirm perhaps a week to three days before your departure, and always have your confirmation number handy when you approach the desk to check in.

However I also do have one question. When I originally made my reservation, I hadn't anticipated an eventuality that of course sprung forth. I use the stairs a lot and I therefore made a special note in my reservation asking specifically for the seventh floor*. Lo and behold, one of the roommates I found (after I made the reservation) happens to be a fursuiter. Upon his request, I submitted the appropriate form on this site for requesting a fursuit floor.

Now I wouldn't want to cause an issue between conflicting requests. On my reservation I ask for the seventh floor yet through the Anthrocon site I ask for the fursuiter floor. Should I call the Westin back and have my special request stricken?

*I should note that I asked for the seventh floor because last year I asked for a low floor so I could use the stairs. They gave me the seventh, so I just went with that.

to my knowlege the fursut floor is just a list of the lower level floors and are givin out in the order room are checked into. so if you check in late you may not get the lower floor. but you should still get the 7th floor. not many people asking for that i don't think.

Personally, I hate talking on the phone. So I just print out my hotel reservation and put it and everything else related to the con into a manilla folder. Then I carry that folder with me when I travel to and from the con.

Now I wouldn't want to cause an issue between conflicting requests. On my reservation I ask for the seventh floor yet through the Anthrocon site I ask for the fursuiter floor. Should I call the Westin back and have my special request stricken?

No worries. With certain exceptions (such as two-bedroom suites, which are unique rooms), rooms and floors are NOT assigned until checkin. So, upon checkin, you can just mention that you want to be on the fursuiter floor. (We'll have given the fursuiters' names to the hotel by then)

As I understand it, issuing a keycard resets the electronic combination on the door lock, rendering all those previously issued for that room unusuable. The first person to check in has to get all the keys needed, and give them to the roommates when they arrive; the roommates can't check in separately and get keys from the front desk, or else everyone else who already has keys will find themselves locked out.

Are you positive about this? Although I hadn't run into this situation at the Westin, the Wyndam had no such problem. I was rooming with someone else, and when I checked in the day after they arrived, they simply scanned a key for me when I got there.

Individual hotels do it differently, and it all depends on their Standard Operating Procedure for the case of additional keys. Sometimes they may treat all key requests as "lost key" reports (or it could be that the computer only has one checkbox that says "replace key"), which means that any old keys get invalidated.

I was the 2nd person to check in to my room last year.
IIRC, there were no problems with my checkin, and I received my keycard without a problem, but didn't get the lecture on how to use the energy-efficient stuff, since my roomie already heard the lecture. Obviously I won't need the lecture THIS YEAR, but I'll be the 2nd person to check in to my room AGAIN, and I fully expect it to be the same and I'll be handed my keycard at the registration desk without any problems or unusual questions.

But yes, I would echo the reminder to confirm your reservation. The internet age makes that VERY easy. I used to call TWICE to reconfirm- once a week after making the reservation, once 2 weeks before the event, and a THIRD time if either time LOST it- but now I just recommend checking online.

That comment about printing out the reservation is a GREAT idea. I think I'll do it this year, since there's no such thing as too much documentation when you need to get in your room NOW. Smiling

As long as you inform the hotel that persons B,C and D will be rooming with you and request that they be given spare keycards when they check in there won't be a problem. All 3 of my roomies last year got their keycards at the front desk that way.
