Ok, I'll be living in New Hope, MN at the time.

I'm planning to be at the con from the 4th to the 9th (though its possible I'll shrinking that somehow.

I'm making this post to explore my possibilities. I'm leaning towards taking the bus at this point. But I'd rather not because it would take much longer.

My car is decent... well, it has not given me a hint that it could die anyway Eye-wink Sticking out tongue but it gets 20-25 MPG HWY

needless to say, I did the research and from Minnesota to Pittsburg (well also calulation a possible 2 hour pitstop/pick up) would take me like 1900 miles over 15 hours. already I think that, if I drove, I would NEED to stop for the night... hence why i'd rather take the cheaper bus.)

With parking costs, gas (assuming $3.50/gal on average), well, the costs kick over $300 on my own.... another reason I'd wanna take a $140 round trip bus trip.

Well, still, I'd like to explore the possibilities of picking up people, or being picked up... maybe the cost split would be better. No one needs to make any commitments at this point, of course... ballpark figures and guess if you think may or may not Eye-wink

Have you tried megabus? http://www.megabus.com/us/ I'm told they have crazy cheap rates for travel within a certain area of the midwest, and pittsburgh just happens to be their easternmost destination.

I just came back from a committee meeting in pittsburgh, and a friend of mine said he got a ticket in from wisconsin that ran only $4. He may have been exhaggerating, of course, but if you're strapped for cash and considering the bus anywayz, it could be worth investigating.

I'm not strapped for cash. I'd like to get there the fastest and cheapest way possible of course. I just didn't wanna spend $300 on travelling by car if I can take the same amount of time for nearly half the cost by taking a Greyhound.

But I'll certainly look into this megabus thing! thanks!

This is just my opinion, but driving to PA from MN is only worth it if you plan on car pooling, and splitting the fuel costs.

That same $300 got me a cheap flight (RT) on Northwest Airlines (which I purchased over a month ago.)

I know Sticking out tongue Which is why I'm seeing if carpooling will be an option Sticking out tongue

I was thinking about a flight, but I have never flown before, and I don't want to have to hassle with a 4th of july flight, and whatever the heck they won't let me have on a plane, and I only plan to have 1 carry on because I don't want to loose my luggage, and going on a plane with just a carry on is already suspect, and I'm certain to get a check in the HELLO!

... so I'm opting for Bus if carpooling is for sure not looking to be a possibility Laughing out loud

I bought train tickets from Amtrak, but I'm now thinking about Megabus or Greyhound.

I'd suggest looking into your Greyhound fare. If I go Greyhound, it'll be $62 round-trip FROM detroit (my train tickets are from toledo, and I live near Detroit..) which is even cheaper than my $110 train fare.

If you can get bus fare under $100 you'll certainly be saving a lot in gas, and you won't have to rely on other furs to pick up your gas bill (and it'll save coordinating the trip, 'cause that stuff gets messy).

Problem with Megabus for me is that detroit only connects to chicago. I'd have to drive to toledo and pay some OTHER commercial lot for 5 days of parking, and there supposedly isn't even one nearby the dropoff for the megabus stop in Toledo... (one person told me that it's like 20-30 miles out of downtown toledo.)

All told, i think the greyhound fare for $62 round-trip has been the most cost-effective option I have found for ME. dunno what will be the best for you though Eye-wink

It probably won't affect your decision, but the Toledo Megabus stop is only 9 miles outside of downtown Toledo, at Southwyck Shopping Center.
