I recently heard about this cheap bus service. It doesnt serve all that many cities but its only 30$ to go from Milwaukee Wisconsin to Pittsburgh. Has anyone thought about using this?

That site is all kinds of awesome.

So I added it to our travel section.

Note that the way that Megabus prices their seats you get the best rates if you book as far in advance as possible. Given that you can only book for the 45 days out, this means that towards the end of May you should start being able to book seats to and from Anthrocon. A quick check right now shows that the fares from Chicago are as low as $1.00 each way if you book 45 days out to $40.00 each way for a departure this afternoon.

My friend dave, the one who told me about his travels on megabus, said the first seat they sell on any given bus costs a buck, and they get progressively more expensive as more seats fill.

So if you're gonna go with megabus, make yourself a reminder to do it as soon as those bus seats are available.

It doesn't serve anywhere near me, but this is so wildly amazing I think we should all pass this thing to SOMEBODY. I'm saving it for later use for later years for other people trying to get to AC.

One thing I WILL add:
anyone travelling to AC DIRECTLY from
Chicago
Cleveland
or Toledo

should seriously consider using this for future ACs-or this one.
If one plans ahead, they can get a round-trip to AC for TWO DOLLARS plus tax and any surcharges.
If I'm reading correctly, there's a $1 surcharge for
CHANGING a reservation, I presume that's each way. So there
MIGHT be a $1 surcharge also for the reservation in the
first place. *keeps reading* No, that's 50 cents for any
reservation, and 50 cents for a cancellation- thus the $1
total to change a reservation (cancel one, make another).

Round trip for less than $5? That HAS to be worth considering.

The luggage limitations are a consideration if they're going
to be a dealer or a fursuiter, since they're limited to
one suitcase & one carryon. (I'm neither and I automatically
pack 1 suitcase & one carryon.)

As was noted above, the fare prices rise as the seats are filled, so the $1 rate doesn't last long, but the rates stay really low.

For those who don't mind travelling by bus and making
connections, there's ways to transfer TO Chicago, Cleveland
or Toledo from another city.

For those wondering, that means you can make a longer trip
by bus for an incredibly cheap far by connectionm and
reach Pittsburgh with one transfer.

Toledo and Cleveland only connect to each other,Chicago, or Pittsburgh,
so you can't use them as your connection.
(Each connects DIRECTLY to Pittsburgh already.)

Ok, where does Chicago connect to?
Ann Arbor, MI
Cincinnati, OH
Detroit, MI
Indianapolis, IN
Kansas City, MO
Louisville, KY
Milwaukee, WI
Minneapolis, MN
St Louis, MO
(plus the other 3 already mentioned.)

So furs from any of those cities can at least consider this
an option, if they don't mind travelling by bus and the
transit time. With the right planning, their trip could
easily remain under $20 round trip.
(Although, again, they should check their prices.)

It's also possible to attempt to slice a fare to the bone
by using Greyhound to reach Chicago, Cleveland or Toledo
and then Using Megabus to reach Pittsburgh.
That would open options for anyone who lived in a city not
very far from one of them-so long as they were willing to
make the connection, which is almost certainly crosstown
from where they will let off.

For the same energy, Greyhounding DIRECTLY to Pittsburgh
might work better, since you're trading the connection
at one of those cities for the connection in Pittsburgh,
since Megabus lets out RIGHT AT THE WESTIN,
and Greyhound doesn't. So, it's something else to consider.

For a few people, this is FANTASTIC, and for a number,
this is an option that may serve them well.

========
As for me, if I lived in Chicago, Cleveland or Toledo, I'd
seriously consider it, especially Cleveland or Toledo.
The Chicago-Pittsburgh leg is 10 hours, which is ok for some
people to travel by bus, but I'd rather take the train for
trips that long if I can.
Like I said, for SOME people, this will be great.
(Especially if they can sleep on the bus.)

I have been keeping an eye on them since I saw them mentioned as an option for MFF last year. The good news is, they keep adding cities to their routes.

There are a couple of things you must be prepared for.

Passengers are limited to one piece of normal size luggage, not to exceed 50 pounds plus one carry on that must fit in the overhead. (it does not give a size)

Be prepared to give the driver your reservation number. They suggest you bring a printed copy of your payment confirmation page or reservation confirmation email.

Passengers are required to be at their departure point at least 15 minutes before their selected trip is scheduled to depart

MegaBus does not have terminals (one way they save money) so the bus stops on the side of the road. Generally at a major location. The awesome news here is that the Pittsburgh drop off is at 10th and Penn which is right at the hotel!

Changes can be made to your reservation 24 hours in advance and will cost $1. The cost of the initial reservation will be placed against the new one. This means if you got a cheap price and then try to change, you may have to pay extra.

This is just a quick synopsis of what seemed important to me. Please browse the site yourself if you plan on using their service.
