This is kind of a why do you go to/what do you like about, Anthrocon open thread Smiling

I'll start:

Why do I go and what do I like? Hmmm... well the main reason for me would be that it gives me that chance to see friends I haven't seen in at least a year. I try to do other cons and I have in the past, but being a nine to fiver lends me very little to time to do much other than one con a year. My first convention, well... hotel convention that is (Feral doesn't have it's own hotel, sorry for being an a$$hole and breaking the bad news Smiling, was Anthrocon 2002. I thought it was very well organized and despite it being so overwhelming with almost 2000 people (if I remember correctly), I still had a great time, so I've always made it a point to make AC my convention of choice, which is probably why I miss the Adam's Mark so much.

I enjoy going to Anthrocon because not only does it give me that opportunity to see old faces, it also gives me the opportunity to finally meet those friends you've had for like five years, for the very first time in person. Anthrocon also gives me the opportunity to run into old friends I thought I'd never meet or see again. I remember way back in the day when I used to chat on Furnation's chat server, I made a lot of really good friends during my stay there, but then for reasons out of my knowledge, it was shut down, and I lost touch with some of those people. Then one day during AC 2005, I ran into one of those old faces. It was a lot of fun playing catch up comparing life notes with one another Smiling

Other reasons I enjoy the con? Well for me, when the activities end, and the sun goes down, it means only one thing (among many)... PARTY!!

Whee parties Laughing out loud

Yeah I go for the room parties too. Infact it's one of the things I really look forward to when it comes to cons, because you combine seeing old faces with meeting new faces to the whole room party thing and it just makes it all the more awesome.

It's like so chaulk full of awesome it's like being friends with a ninja, or two ninjas taped together to create one really big ninja!

I always have a lot of fun when I go to AC, and if I miss it, yeah... it bums me out a bit but I know that as long as it's still going strong, then chances are it'll be there for me next year Smiling

So why do you go to Anthrocon?

I think the better question would be what reason is there *not* to go to Anthrocon?

AC has always been a huge social event where I get to see and meet up with friends who I only get to see once or twice a year, that much is the same for anyone. But I think the real draw is the ability to just let go and play, be myself, wear casual clothes, and embrace the furry mentality. On top of that, reality doesn't exist outside of the con, it's a wondrous escape that is unmatched anywhere else. I'd not give up the experience for anything and I look forward to it more than any other time during the year.

1) Timing
2) Cost
3) Parental restrictions (for the minors in the house)
4) Fear of large crowds
5) Lack of hotel room space

Sticking out tongue Other than that, there's really no reason

1) con dates are prepared two years in advance for a reason (I've already asked for next years off)

2) I'll miss bills to make it damnit!

3) Bah! been going since I was 18

4) Get in a fursuit, nice and confined ^.^

5) I've crashed on more frigid, hard hotel room floors than I'd care to admit, you can too!

1) Never had problems with that..

2)... cost? .. I could understand if you plan to buy lots of things and you're on limited budgets.. but it's actually pretty affordable..

3) Well , this is necessary .. the staff DON't wanna play babysitter..

4).. well that's unfortunate .. I can't i can't say anything about this one..

5)in the main hotel .. maybe but there are a gazillion hoterls around the center.. so ..

For me it's different. I'm new to the fandom, and I love it a lot so far. And I've never really met a fur IRL and I'd love more than anything thatn to share my interests with someone else with the same. And I just don't know how to explain my parents what furry fan is and why I really like it (since my mom thinks I'm into anime instead of furries). And since my mom is unfortunately but obviously going wityh me, I might let her see a bit of our little world. So what better way to get more familiar with it than going to the world's largest furry con?

I also want this experience to help improve my art skills. I want to become a comic artist, so I'd love to talk to some of the famous furry artists there and learn a bit from them.

And even though I'm very young among the rest of the furry crowd, I'm hoping that I'll fit in the con just fine, which will most likely be :3

You hope to be shy? I always thought of that as less anticipated and more inevitable. *wrygrin*

Speaking as dragon who's often really shy IRL as well, tho, i highly recommend volunteering. The work is time consuming but neither taxing nor difficult (except maybe on foot leather), the staff and other volunteers are awfully friendly, and it doesn't require much of any extroversion on your part. All you have to do is watch for the bat signal and show up at con ops with a smile on your face, and they'll point you in the right direction. Technically, even the smile is optional, though it always helps. *grin*

After the first time, i didn't even have to watch for the bat signal. I just asked one of the staff i'd been working with if there was a time they might like me to turn up again.

Why I like Anthrocon? Easy, its the one thing that makes my life worth living. Its the one thing I have to look forward to each year. I know when I go there I WILL have a good time. This year will be extra special because this year I am attending with my mate who shares the top spot with AC, on things in life that are truly awesome. Lets see what else is there hmm... oh yes theres, Kage, 2, Spazfox, Zigzag, Giza, Ronin otter, Big Bad Wolf, Dex, and more fur suiters, and Furry artists than I can wag my tail at. Not to mention our fabulous GOHs! Now there are a couple of things I don't like: CON FUNK "use soap please, oh water too; it helps", CON CRUD, overcrouding in the dealers den, and never having enough money "please lord let me win the lottery".

Why I go to AC:

• The people. A con wouldn't be a con without friends and family to visit, and many good people to meet. In fact, this could be the sole reason.
• The talent. Never have I been so impressed in my life; the myriad of artistic talent could be found all over the 'con, not just in the Artist's Alley, but everywhere! Random sketchbooks being opened. At times I would look at a distance for a brief moment to admire the level of skill that many furs had. After all, furs wouldn't be who they are without the massive artistic prowess the people possessed!
• The entertainment. Never was I bored... not for one moment. There was always something to do, always something to be done. If I wasn't doing anything, I made myself productive. I asked if I could help out in any way that I could. It was worth it. Smiling (Entertainment isn't always panels and shows.)
• My friends. Never had I thought I would have had the chance to meet my long-time friend TaniDaReal in real life. She was such a peach. And I got to meet my other long-time friend SonicBlu as well, who was just a fantastic fur all around. (Check out his Time Machine show!) I made new friends there as well, the list being so long... you know who you all are. ^^
• The memories. What good is going to a convention without something incredible to remember? Anthrocon has left an impression like nothing else in my life. These memories are worth more than mere money. These are memories which give me true happiness. Smiling

And don't forget the stories. Is it, in itself, a reason to go? Probably not. But could Anthrocon truly be anthrocon, if you didn't have developing legends like kage's cockroach encounter or the bunjeevators?

OK, so many of those stories center around our beloved chairman; he's kind of a magnet for strange happenings. Doesn't make them any less fun to witness and retell, tho. *grin*

This will be my first time at AC. My reasons for wanting to attend are...

1. Chance to see friends from all over the country that I would otherwise find it hard to see.

2. Chance to meet certain furry artists that I otherwise would not get a chance to see.

3. Its a furry con, can there ever be a better reason than that!

I like sore feet, long days, endless crowds, 3am emergency calls and lots and lots of coffee...

But I wouldn't change any of it cause its a blast.

Why did I go?
cause a last minute schedule change 24 horus beofree day one allowed me and it's the furry place to be
What did I enjoy most?
Laughing my scalie ass off with Kigs, Spazzfox, Uncle Kage, and 2
What would I do different?
Ask for that weekend off so I spemd more tiem there.
Was it worth +15 hours on a greyhound both ways, +$200 in junk, less than 36 hours there, and the hassle of last minute registration, lodging, and transportaion?
you f*cking bet, and I'd do it agian if I had to

Wow...reminds me of my first con, ZonieCon '99. A shame about that group going to pot after McMoo's unfortunate passing.
I'd say I like Anthrocon for the same reason "I like Pixy Soap" but I'm not sure anyone else would recognize the reference. Plus, "because I'm dirty" doesn't quite jive...at least not until AC gets merchandising and a product line.
I like AC because there I get to see so many awesome folks I know online, and a sketchbook is a fun way to swap art. Now I just need to make sure I bring my pencils this time (was I ever kicking myself last year)!
