Hi furs who know how to actually dance! A little while ago, I was playing around on youtube and I came accross the most talented display of dancing in a fursuit I had ever seen. I was like "Wow... this guy actually knows how to move to the music and he does it really well". I was also thinking "Damn... I would love to move like that...". Well anyways, life went on and I thought I'd go looking for some videos from Muse (they're a band I really like). Well one of them was called "Time is running out". So I clicked on it, never having heard the lyrics before and as soon as I saw the people in the video dancing, I was totally hooked, and now I want to learn how to dance. So my question is, for those that competantly know how to dance or anything about different dancing styles, what would I have to learn in order to dance something like the dancers in this video?: http://youtube.com/watch?v=0N6ntLJUs1U They don't really start dancing until about half way through the vid, but there's a bit of dancing that starts about a third of the way in. I'm guessing what they're doing in the vid is broadway dancing, but I don't know if that's an actual style of dance, or if the dancers' skill is really just from years of dancing in other styles. |

well, the last ac did have a panel called fursuit dancing 101, i wen to it. Not bad, I'm not really sure what kind of professional level of dance it is your looking for, but you can learn a few basics there.

permalinkThe best fursuit dancing I have seen was by DEX, at AC04. The joys of the robotic Raccoon.

All you need is to understand the basics. Typically what your dancing to isn’t actually the music itself, but rather a single aspect of the music. For instance in pop-dance your moving to the beat.
Here are some examples.

Its all a matter of keeping in time with the beat. I would recommend you simply watch some videos of others dancing and when you see something you like, try to do the same. It will take practice, but it shouldn’t be too difficult for you so long as your “in shape”.
Dances like the “tango” are a bit more complicated as you aren't dancing to just the beat, but I imagine your just looking to dance well alone, rather than with a partner.
