so last year there was talk of having a rest break in the middle for water/cooldown, due to the parade being sooo long :> any news on this? I can't wait to see all my friends again.. on another note, are the dorsai going to tag fursuits again this year? that was fun and silly.. I dunno if I can find my eartag |

Yappyfox is working on the logistics of the parade and it's route. There are several options that he is exploring to make this year's parade more enjoyable. Stay tuned for more updates.
Regarding the Dorsai tagging suits....I hope they do as well. Those were a big hit. (I have mine as well.)

I still gots my tag, So happy when i got it, I saw them and I went hunting for one. Last parade wasn't too long, altought todate it was the only parade i was involved in. I plan on being in this year's and a break doesn't seem like a bad idea. last time a bunch of us lions tried to stay together in a pride, very fun.

edit: i also have my ten annual fursuit parade pin, I LOVE that pin the first parade i was involved in and i help make furry history. Horray!

I can confirm that there will be tags this year. I can't say much beyond that, as we don't wish to disturb the normal migratory patterns.

Won't measuring the migration patterns change the results?

Yes. We consulted with some experts after last years tagging, and he confirmed that wrestling them to the ground and handcuffing, while fun, probably resulted in anomalous behavior for the next few hours.
We've bounced around various mechanisms since then. Blowguns looked really promising until we did some live tests and found the tags tended to get stuck in the barrel. The blowback does really awful things to your eardrums.

How about a Nerf gun with foam tranquilizer darts?

whats the smallest hallway that the fursuit parade is going through? cuz im going to have a 7-foot wingspan with my wings open and about 3-feet (iffy) with them closed

Probably areas within the dealer's room would have the smallest walkways. If we follow a similar route as last year (just shorter)...then we'd need to use the escalators to get to the riverfront deck for the panaoramic photo shot.

ok, mind if I have my wings open for the photo? I'll stand in the back row if you like cuz ive seen how big the crowd is on youtube and thats for anthrocon last year (btw whos the fur with the really cool floppy ears? lol srry very excited about meeting everyone, the anticipation is killing me).

You'll want to check with Yappyfox when we get to the site for the photo. He's going to coordinate the parade and the Dorsai will be helping us secure the area. The photo op is basically a large lineup...so if you're behind people...you may not get seen. And we were having some difficulty getting all the suiters visible in the panoramic shot. So you might not be able to have the wings fully extended. (Remember though that Tugrik from Monoceros Media will be at the convention to shott custom fursuit photographs. So you can get lots of pics with the wings open there should we not have the space to have them open on the riverfront deck.

It's impossible to say for sure until the parade route is finally set. I have no input into that decision, but have seen it discussed elsewhere in the forums.
Remembering back to last year, the narrowest entry I saw was a standard door width (the size of your hotel door). However, I did not see the entire route.

permalinkcool, another winged fursuiter
I never measured my wingspan, but it was supposed to be 12' wide when open :0 and less than 3 when closed.

ya i liked your suit (i saw it on one of bungeeskunk's videos on youtube). mines going to be made of fleece and hopefully i can get the webbings to be made of leatherette. I'm still designing the mechanism concept (in my head) of pawsfree opening wings. i had a stroke of inspiration from a futon's mechanism from folding up and down, a counter balanced spring with resistance in the joint (now its just designing the part where i dont touch the wings for that).

how about electronics, either hydrolics or so kind of release where you could push a button somewhere on your body.

permalinkI'm using a basic stamp as the brains (basic stamp 2 oem $30 but ya gotta build it)

a parallax serial servo controller, $40
a 12 channel wireless transmitter/reciver $12 on ebay.
the servos were already in the wings though.. but theres 6 of em.
I have a new toy to play with, a 3 axis acellerometer, dunno what to do with it, easy to read values from a basic stamp

That isn't practical from an engineering standpoint, and also presents a serious safety hazard. I don't think it's a good idea.

well maybe not that fast, but something to make it seem flashy.
if my scanner was working i could show my initial sketches of the wings.
like I had said it is going to resist to a certain point (plus I'm going to build in so many safety measures too) and then expand outwards slightly after that certain point, just how a futons folding mechanism works. I plan to put it in the wings hand joint.

I was in the parade last year and found it quite refreshing when I walked past those large fans to open my mouth and get a nice blast of cool air. It would be nice to direct as many as possible at the parade route when it takes place.
