The Westin has a very limited number of King-bed rooms available once again! They are expected to go very fast, so visit our Westin Hotel page and click on the picture of the hotel to reserve, or try calling them directly. Everyone who was on the waiting list should have been contacted by now. If you weren't, well, now is your chance! |

Just checked: Sunday 5/13/07 17:00. Apparently no rooms available at the Westin at this time. As Kage said, they filled up fast.

permalinkI got a call from the Westin today at 12:15 Eastern (Wednesday, 5/23). They were asking if I wanted a room. After some back-and-forth (they had my name misspelled on the wait list), they agreed that I did have a valid reservation and a room.
In other words, people on the Westin waiting list may be getting calls that rooms are available.

I just spoke to Lia... She said they may have rooms available, but don't plan on calling people on the waiting list until later today, after they've confirmed room counts.

permalinkI was always kind of under the impression that the waiting lists were just to make people feel like they had a chance at a room...I mean I've been on many waiting lists for many different cons, and not once have I ever been called back. The only way I managed to get rooms was to keep calling to see if anyone cancelled. This is usually pretty successful. But I mean, I would think that as soon as a room opened up, they would call the next person on the waiting list? I guess that's not how it works though.

I worked in hospitality for several years, here's how it works.
A room block sets aside a certain number of rooms out of the hotel total. No matter what happens outside that group, the rooms are set outside of the general availability. Once every week or two, the reservations manager goes through the, literally thousands, of upcoming room blocks and makes notes of availability, before passing it on to one of the reservation agents to begin calling those on the waiting list. It's not an automatic process and it's very time-consuming.
Some hotels are very strict in regards to the waiting list, and some not so much. With the less-strict hotels, if you call and the rooms are available, they'll book it. However, the Westin seems very concerned about adhering to the list. Also, keep in mind that once you make a reservation, they take you off the list. So you may have made it to the head of the list many times, only to be removed since you'd already gotten a reservation.

permalinkThank you for the explanation. It just seemed strange to me that there were rooms open when I called and they were able to book for me, yet I had not been contacted through the waiting list (and hardly thought I was high up on the list anyway).

I just got a call from the hotel. I guess they started calling those on the waiting list late yesterday. They've still got a few more people to call before they run out of names and are open to non-waiting list people.
SO, for those who aren't on the waiting list, now's a good time to call and get on it!

On the 15th, I was all set to call up the Westin (I'm on the waiting list), until I re-read Xyloart's post and realized it was referring to a different event.
On the 16th, I was all set to make this post, and let it slip my mind.
On the morning of the 17th, I see that people on the waiting list have actually been contacted, sooo...I guess I'll keep the cell close by, since I have no idea where I am on it.
Will it be announced here should the Westin exhaust the names on their list just in case someone missed their call?

I joined the list on the 27th... If that helps any.
It couldn't hurt to call and check-up on your place in line. I'll bet if you're close enough to the top, they'll book you.

I left a message on Friday the 19th, inquiring about my position on the waiting list. Today (23rd) I got my callback, and I'm now booked in the Westin. Tenth consecutive Anthrocon (in the main hotel, that is), here I come!
(oh yeah, after pre-registration and getting Amtrak tickets)

Should I call the Westin to check up on my reservation? I reserved for the Westin all the way back in November.

permalinkI just called to get on the waiting list at 16:35 on 5/17. I contacted Lia directly and managed to get a room immediately. This is the luckiest I've been in quite a while. I don't know how many rooms are open at this time, but NOW might be a great time to call.
P.S. Dr. Conway, I'll try not to have emergency surgery this year...

Don't you dare! I've missed you terribly and want to see you again this year.

permalinkI'll be alone, however. She (and you know who I mean) will be staying at home. I will bring a bottle of New Year's good luck sake with me. (I don't drink it: I have no idea how good/bad it is.)
(You also may shoot me at the Charity Auction...)
