Anthrocon 2013 Hotel Reservations Are Now Open!
VERY IMPORTANT: All of our hotels share the same housekeeping policy. Even if your room is not to be serviced, a housekeeper must still knock on the door at some point just to make sure there's no dead bodies or tarantulas in the room. Also, all hotels require a one-night room and tax pre-payment for every reservation. It may not show up immediately on your statement so do not panic if you do not see the charge for a week or two. As long as you have a confirmation, then you have a room.
Don't forget: We have TWO Marriott hotels. Make sure you know the difference between the Courtyard by Marriott (close by) and the Marriott City Center (a little bit further).
First time at AC but I got the jump on it. Got a double at the Westin.
I was surprised, I tried the courtyard spot on and nothing at all for the thursday through sunday. Confound those fast furries!
I see what you did there! *taps his own nose and winks*
I have to say the the Paskey system SOOOOO EASY and FAST!!! GAH! Great Idea who ever came up with the idea to use this site!
Huh? Wha? Oh...ME, of course. It was me. All my idea. Yes, Sir!
Or at least...mostly. A significant percentage. Measurably so. Mostly.
Well, it was a very good one. Experianced the sillyness of last year, and this went very smoothly. Tried grabbing a spot at the courtyard, in 20 secodns it said it had nothing, 30 seconds later I was entering the info for the westin. Very smooth process and much better if I may add. Thank you.
I sure hope everyone and everything goes by smoothly with the hotel's...looks like rooms are going fast.
My biggest concern is the roomates. Already let my local furgroup know that I had a double double bed room at the Westin and there will be 3-4 spots available.Haven't heard anything yet though
After that of course I have to consider people actually showing up! Every year so far, there is that one that doesn't show up! Last year 2 roomates bailed 2 weeks before con. Year before that 1 person texted me when I was AT THE HOTEL that he was staying with a friend instead. And the year before that 1 person never even appeared!
So this year I have to become MORE aggressive! You want a spot, you pay up front, NO REFUNDS D:<
Sucks having to pony out another $150 cause someone decided to not inform you a good time in advance that they had a change of plans!!!
Well I got a courtyard seat so im happy I think it will be a good turnout seeing as it took 55 mimutes to shutdown two hotels o.o
IM SO EXCITED! :3

I couldn't see any option to fill out extra guests at a later date when I booked my double double-bed room at the westin on wednesday. However, to avoid any nonsence, I just booked it for 1 person, ie: me. I figure since extra guests are free (up to 5, for some uncomfy-bed reason) I can just add them later.
Based on what Kage stated, you're lucky you didn't pick the 5 guest option. No rooms would have been shown.
The '5 guests' hotel listing will, as mentioned, show you no rooms on Passkey. You are limited to 4 total people in a standard hotel room, by Anthrocon rule and City of Pittsburgh law.
I was under the impression that it was five. (ex: two bed room, two in each bed, one in the chair) Not that I'm doing that, I got myself a king bed for my sweetheart and I, just that's what I seem to recall being the norm. Was I misinformed or did that change in a recent year?
It has been a maximum occupancy of 4 people for several years now. This is regulated by fire codes. Taken from the hotel FAQ on this site:
The fire marshall does not like to see more than four people in a room, so that is usually the limit. There is no reason for anyone to go into a room and count noses, so if there is an extra person hiding under the bed, they are not going to be noticed. Of course, if you advertise the fact that there is an extra person hiding under the bed -- such as by announcing it on our message boards or asking the hotel for eight extra pillows and towels -- the hotel is sort of obliged to do something about it.
However, the Passkey system this year DID allow you to register 5 or 6 guests for a room. This should probably be ironed out in the future, as it's liable to cause exactly this kind of confusion. ("But I registered 6 people, why'd you let me log 6 people in the room if the limit is four?")
Yes, I noticed that also when I got my room. That is why I mentioned it in the Passkey System - What to expect thread. I don't know why they included that option when it would not allow any rooms with that number of people unless it was just a default configuration.
It did? Do you know of any reservations that were successfully made with 5 or more people on them?
I do not, I just noticed it during my registration.
man, I'm glad more than ever I did the SS
Talk about the Fast and the Furrious, I had my room booked by 11:09. Nice system
Granted this will be my third AC with a reservation and I never had a problem getting a Westin reservation either of the other two times, but it was nice to have the SS perk and not worry about it this year!
I wish I knew about the new passkey thing before I tried getting a hotel.
I ended up calling to make a reservation like I did last year and got some lady on the phone who had never even heard of anthrocon and by that time it was too late -_-
I'm stuck at the Omni
I highly reccomend checking up on the site and reading through at least the last 3 entries on the front page a few days before hotel rooms open up every year. Also, following the @anthrocon twitter is helpful.
I would not say "stuck." The Omni is a magnificent hotel, full of Edwardian grandeur and only a very short walk from the convention center.
Agreed. Me and my friends chose the Omni. It was great in 2011, and we wanted to come back this year. We also don't mind the walk.
The walk can be a lot of fun...plus it's a good chance to grab a bite to eat on the way to the DLCC on the way in or on a run back to the hotel. Either way...yay for the Omni Furs! ^.^
"Stuck"? Oh no...the Omni is an amazing hotel and only 3 blocks away...while our group wanted to be a big closer, we're not complaining in the least with our reservation at the Omni. It's one helluvan experience staying there...
Not sure if I should ask here or create my own thread for it. Has anyone else that reserved their room not been charged their one night deposit yet? I have my confirmation email and all but my credit card isn't showing the charge. If others are in the same boat then I'm sure it's just a matter of time but if i'm the only one then I need to know who to email to get it sorted out.
"SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!" seems appropriate.
I have not been charged and I am not concerned. Last year, it took two cycles of my credit card before I was charged and that was when we were dealing directly with the hotel. I think it may take longer this year simply because the reervation has to go through the Passkey system before it gets to the hotel. Of course, it may be quicker: there's no way of telling. In either case, I don't expect to be charged for at least two weeks at the earliest.
Out of interest, what software is needed to view the confirmation email?
It appears to consist of a bunch of hyperlinks intended to somehow retrieve the information on-demand and no email reader I have tried so far has been able to parse it. Forwarding it to an HTML-capable webmail client has not worked either, although I was able to view pieces of it in a fragmented manner by copying the last block into a .html file and making firefox view it.
I had no problem viewing it in Firefox after receiving it in Hotmail. Could some of your options be set to prevent links being shown?
I think what's actually happened is that the text version of the mail is garbage, and that's what Sylpheed views by default. Going into the attachments and manually opening the HTML version does actually work, though it's curious that forwarding it does not. This may be an issue with Sylpheed, of course.
Could you please forward the confirmation email, along with its header, to webmaster-2013(at)anthrocon.org?
It looks like it was mostly my fault. My principal mail readers (sylpheed, mailwasher) default to viewing the text version of the email to avoid malware, and the text version of the email is garbled, which is bad form.
Forwarding it did not work at first because by default Sylpheed will attempt to forward it inline instead of as an attachment. Viewing the message as an attachment within Sylpheed allowed me to view the text properly, and forwarding the entire message as an attachment to my Yahoo account allowed me to see the thing in its full glory. So a bit of a headache but I got there in the end.
I can still forward the message if you like.
Hope this is the right thread to ask this in!
I read somewhere that you need to have an AC badge number to book a room, Is that true? I may have just misread something. If so does that mean I need to pre-register now to book a room? Noticed that the hotel reservation page asks for your badge number but it doesn't seem to be required as I made it all the way to the credit card input page without it. But my concern is that I will book it and it won't go through and by that time the single night room I want will be gone. I have been to AC before but stayed with a friend and this year I just need one day to fill in a gap (Wensday) so wanted to book my own room. Thanks in advance for any replies!
It was GOING to be required. However, getting the word out on short notice was a problem.
A BIGGER problem was getting the software to do EXACTLY what AC wanted. So, at least for this year's rooms, it's OPTIONAL.
But you should pre-register anyway, if only to avoid an INCREDIBLY long line at registration.
im so excited! this will be my first year going to AC. ive seen lots of good videos and pictures about what goes on (whatgoes on at AC stays on youtube) and it all looks like one heck of a vaca spot.
uncle Kage for president!!
PSH, nawwwww...UNCLE KAGE FOR MINISTER OF MAGIC XD <3
If your impression of AnthroCon is MOSTLY or ENTIRELY based on videos and pictures,
you're in for some shocks.
I have a wonderful time at AC, and rarely is my version of a wonderful time represented
in posted photos or videos. What makes AC fun for me, generally, does not make for
riveting video or cool photos. Most AC'ers don't wear fursuits, and those who do,
do not wear them all day. To go by videos, AC is about fursuiting. To go by most
people, it's one dish on the buffet table that is AnthroCon. There's a fursuit
track on the schedule. There is also a writing track, an art track, a gaming track....
You might want to look at a schedule from one of the last few AnthroCons for a better
impression of what actually goes on. It's probably MORE fair to think that ComicCon
is about costumes than to think that AnthroCon is about costumes, at least IMHO.
(No, ComicCon is not about costumes, either.)
thank you for clearing that up for me, i know that they edit videos and what not and that a suit is muh to hot to be wearing for an entire day, but never thought to look at past schedules to see what things are more like.
thanks again Blackjack
p.s. where do i find such a thing?
Here, taken from the schedule link to the upper left.
Just a reminder that the schedule information that is currently posted is for the 2012 convention. This year's schedule will be different.
thank you ron :3 and Nicona!

As of 12:09 PM EST, only King beds are available in the Hampton - the double Queens sold out in the 5 minutes it took me to pull both up and select the latter
Hope the free parking/breakfast are worth $37 more per day...
