Smiling Just posting this to see how many other younger furs are out there, I feel all alone in the world of adult furs (though I don't mind at all socializing with them)

So yah, any younger furs out there? If so just reply with an introduction and then if you want, E-mail me or Pm me (can you do that?) or something like that.

(BTW what I mean by younger is furs under 18)

Smiling I'll start out: My name is Thomas (The name I put down for the "name" box is just a name for fun "John Wolfman" Laughing out loud) and I'm 16 years old, and one of these days I am going to attend a Con, sounds like LOADS OF FUN(Gonna get a suit an' everything!)!! I'm A Male Wolf Fur. I live in Central California. No one, even my parents(well, especially my parents, they would think that), know about my Furry Addiction/Side. Only one person knows and that's my friend Nick, but I hardly talk to him since I transfered schools, and it just kinda came out when we were talking about our wierd habits.
Recently I've been longing to express my Furry side with somebody 8( , but knew the consequences, so I can only keep it to myself, So i've decided to see if any others out there Laughing out loud. Being A Furrry, and everything about it has nearly absorbed my whole life, and I embrace it with wide open arms, and I am UBER PROUD of Being A Furry. I'm into Gaming, Techno, Classic Rock, Bicycling, Swimming, and expressing my creative juices Sticking out tongue.

I'm not a younger fur, not anymore at least. But there are quite a few young folk out there who have discovered that there are many others out there who think that humanlike animals are really cool. You also seem to think that there's something embarrassing about being furry. Just point your parents to the "What is Furry" link to the left.

(By the bye, a small note for all of our younger fans: even on the furry-friendliest site on the internet, we still really recommend against posting any personal information, since one never knows who might come sniffing around. I made a few tiny edits to your posting, just for safety's sake.)

I was raised in A semi heavy/extreme Christan home, they get offended by small things, so I don't think it's a good idea to tell them I'm a furry, especialy since i'm the only one in my family.
I've made progress though: I've printed out my Furname (came up with it two days ago): BeneCanus and pinned it above a clean picture of a cute Wolf fur on my wall. (they don't know the significance of the name, they just think it's something I say for my love of Wolves or something like that)
And I've been displaying more Furry pics on my Computer desk top, and revealing my love for Wolves.

Uck... I know someone whose parents would kick him out of the house if they knew he was either furry or gay =/

This is why I highly dislike Christianity (among some other religions, most specifically those strains which are the most extreme and broad-reaching).. x3

I don't think that's specific to christianity, though i have known my fair share of christians who struggle with it.

My mother, by contrast, reads her bible regularly if not daily, is very active within the community of our religion, and is one of the nicer and more open folk over 30 you'll ever meet. Her only concern when she found out i was a dragon and a part of the online dragon community was that i be circumspect about meeting folks offline, and no more so than she'd be with any other online friend.

I think the problem is not whether you're christian or pagan or moslem or buddhist or atheist or part of any other religious group, but rather whether you allow you beliefs and worldview to become so rigid that you stop seeing others as people first and categories second. It happens a lot, sadly--broadening your mind is hard stuff, and often it seems simpler to just cut yourself off. But when your beliefs and ideas become a barrier to your ability to love and respect others...that's not good.

That said, i recognize that the christian ones are the ones that have been causing you trouble. I'm really sorry that they've been struggling to get past the different-ness of a little fur and see you for who you are. *gentlesnugs*

I think applying that to Christianity is a bit too broad, I know quite a few furs who are Christian. I myself am. It's mostly sects or such of religions.

It's really quite a bit like our fandom, that 1% bad give the rest a bad name to the general public.

Just to touch up on that, I volunteered a short time on the ICPT and just to show how dangerous it can be on ANY website, Neopets, Runescape, and Gaia were some of the MOST watched websites by stalkers, and a few times undersover officers were able to get enough information to trackout users, responding to their homes, and informing their parents about internet safety. Uncle Kage and Giza and all the staff here would agree that YOUR safety is top priority, they dont want to see you in danger, so be careful about giveing your name, age, address, pictures of your face, school you attend, place you work, or other information that would make it very easy to locate you.

Now that that is out, Welcome to Anthrocon ^^ I am sure your going to like it here.. I am gonna go hide somewhere Uncle Kage cant find me for a while, but feel free to message me if ya wanna chat^^

I know what it's like to be embarassed about furry...

All throughout high school I kept my mouth shut about it, even though one of my classmates was a furry (of course, when I saw how he got made fun of - in a relatively tame manner, anyway - I decided I was right not to say anything!)

Then my (then-)girlfriend found out, and pretty much all but disowned me for a little while (I eventually broke up with her, for a variety of reasons... that included)...

Then my aunt (who I live with) found out... and I've been informed that no furries are to enter her house or go near her family (besides me, I guess! XD). It kind of creeps her out. I wore my tail to my little cousin's house once, and my aunt chastised me for 'confusing' my younger relatives.

But I wear a tail to my friend's house for our weekly gathering of friends, and his parents don't think anything of it anymore... hell, yesterday we all even went out to dinner in downtown Royal Oak, MI at BD's (aka Mongolian BBQ) and I wore my tail downtown :3

So with my friends, I'm OK with everybody knowing that I'm a fur. But otherwise.. I kind of keep it out of my family, I don't wear my huskytail at home, and I certainly haven't told anybody at work (good Lord, I can't imagine that really being any good).

I'm new here to and I'm a young fur to. I'm 15 years old and just wanted to at least talk to other furries and all. I've never told anyone ither except my best freind. And I really wanted to talk to some furs Cause i've never talked to another furry before! I really don't think there's alot of furs were I live so I decided to start talking to others instead of hiding it all in. I really would like to try and go to a anthrocon someday and even get a fursuit for myself. So if any young furs want to talk or anything I'd really like to, my email is in my account info if you'd like to know my email. I won't be on alot tho I'm just trying to keep it a secret and stuff so i'll only get on when no one at my homes around.

Yeah! It's great to start talking to and meeting some other furs.

Just gotta be careful though. Within the furry community people seem more likely to just spontaneously meet than outside of it... which means it may be slightly more likely that you could meet someone with not-great intentions and you could get into a bit of trouble (especially when you're young, and more likely to be taken advantage of).

Not to sound parental, but it can happen! Anyone here will tell you that you always have to keep your safety in mind (when meeting ANYBODY off the internet).

But done properly, meeting furs can be great! It may take a while before you can actively start doing so, but your parents co-operation will help vastly if you wanna go to AC anytime soon. My friends' parents drove him there his first time at AC, which helped because he doesn't have a car!

Of course, my family isn't so accepting of it, but some people's folks are. *envy* X3

Yeah, I got into the fandom when I was pretty young, too. I was 14 when I first stumbled upon FurryMUCK. *hunches over and picks up a corncob pipe* That was back in 2002. It was a simpler time. My days were spent working at Burger King, and during the night I cruised the internet and listened to Marilyn Manson. But times change. Now I work at the Cropper's grocery store across from the Burger King, and I listen to KMFDM while I surf my internets. XP But seriously, it can be rough, especially if your parents aren't interested in trying to understand you. And I never knew there were any other furs in my area for a while after I joined FM, until I found things like the Internet Furry Proximity Locater (ifpl.cattech.org, I believe) and pounced.org. It made me feel a lot better to hear people telling me I wasn't quite as screwed up as my parents would have me believe ^^. So yeah, good luck and I hope you enjoy the fandom ^^.

Could I ask, how long do Anthro Cons last for?

This user is a Staff Member.

Anthrocon, like most conventions, runs though a weekend. As listed at the top of this webpage, it runs "July 5-8, 2007" That would be Thursday to Sunday.
Some folks like to meet early and stay late, which is why the hotel room-block is discounted from July 2nd to the 11th (the three nights of the con and three nights on either side). Folks who arrive on the 4th will likely be gathering on the banks of the river to watch the fireworks.

Disclaimer: I am using these estimated timeframes from past conventions and can not guarantee they will reflect accurately on this years convention. Schedules are subject to change and have not been presented yet this year. Please do not make any significant plans based on the presentation of these timelines. An accurate con schedule will be posted when it has been completed (typically a week before the convention).

Thursday:
Registration opens!
Thursday is typically just a social day to meet other attendees while staff are still setting things up (feel free to help out and you can get yourself a free con-shirt as well as a free reservation for net year!).
Typically the pre-con mixer/social begins at around 7pm and runs until 11pm. There is also a dance that typically starts at around 10pm and runs through the night.

Friday:
Artists alley sign-up typically begins at around 10am and the opening ceremonies begin around 11am. Everything else (panels, performances, etc…) begin at 1pm (one hour break for lunch). The art show, dealers room, and artists alley open this day and there is another dance that night.

Saturday:
This is typically the busiest day of the con. If you can only go for one day, this would likely be your best bet. More events and performances take place throughout the day. The fursuit parade, charity auction, “Mature” art auction, and masquerade typically take place on this day. If you are a "Super-Sponsor" (well worth the added expense) you will be invited to attend the luncheon with the Guest of Honor. the luncheon is typically from noon to one and is by Invitation only. You must RSVP when you receive your super sponsor registration confirmation in the mail. There is another dance in the evening.

Sunday:
Things tend to wind down on this day. There are fewer events and performances, the General art auction takes place, and closing ceremonies is typically around 5pm. If you wish to hang around, this is usually the night when all (heck) breaks loose and there are more parties then you could possibly attend. The “official” dead dog party takes place in “the zoo” and usually runs into the wee hours of the morning (or until either everyone drags themselves off to bed or get kicked out by the cleaning crew).

Special note on things you don’t want to miss:
Uncle Kage’s Story hour (Stand up performance)
2’s rant (Stand up performance)
Spasfox: Live (Stand up performance)
The Masquerade
The fursuit Parade
Opening Ceremonies
Closing Ceremonies
Charity auction
General art auction

If this will be your first convention, I would also highly recommend attending the “So this is your first convention” panel on Friday. It could help you out quite considerably during the remainder of the con.
-------

If you want any more info on what the con is like, I would be happy to tell you. I have been a staff member and volunteer for Anthrocon since 2004, so I have plenty of experience and know my way around a con Eye-wink . I have also attended I-con, Dragon*Con, FurFright, FurtherConfusion, and Midwest FurFest. Of all the cons, Anthrocon remains to be my favorite. I would recommend anyone who is looking to attend a convention, feel free to visit our “little” con. Bring your parents, they might just get more of a kick out of it than you do.

I understand my limits but I wish I had less, being 15 and all
is hard to get to places as cool as Anthrocon 2007, but there is no way I can make it this year.
Not giving to much info up, I live in California on the West Coast.

I hear a lot about how many my age manage, but I have no cash and can't find a decent paying job yet, so if there was any way I could make it, then I would attend.

I have about 200$ and not gaining any good amount soon so.. maybe next year when I can drive and have more freedom from my parents.

If there is any advice you guys could give me on how to join all of this at my age, then please Email me at or my AIM is SUPERBOB503.

Hope to hear from someone. =P

Sorry to hear that, My thing is kinda diferent I can get a job at my Family restraunt and can make some money. But i'm not sure if my parents would let me drive out of state when I turn 16 without them coming. But mabye that midwest con I would be able to go to when I can drive would be an option for me. Then I could work on up to even be able to go to Anthro con.

You know, you might not want to be hiding furry from your parents. If your hiding something, they'll automatically assume its wrong.

God, I remember finding furry on teh web when I was in 7th grade. It wasn't even much back then. Just a few sites, I knew nothing about cons or that there were so many. I got real excited and even showed my mom some of the sites I had managed to find back then. (FYI, that was meybe 7-8 years ago if I'm doing the math right)

Closet fur is such a funny term. Whats the big deal? Everyone knew me as that wolf obsessed kid that would draw in class.

Well the only thing that's keeping me from saying anything about it at all is that I don't want to be treated any different then what I am now kids at school are very harsh to kids that don't fit in, And I dont want my parents to feel weird around me like they wouldnt understand me I know one day I will tell them but not right now. I just dont know when.

I'm open about me being a fur. My parents know and I know another fur near me. Actually, he and I go to the same school. We're both pretty open about it. An example would be we both wear our collars with our respective fursona name's on the tag.

I'm pretty young though. I'm 15 and sometimes I feel like I'm the youngest in the fandom but I doubt that to be true.

And for the '08 con I'm gonna try to talk my parents into driving me from Ohio to Pittsburgh 'cus I'd really like to go.

My aunt actually said that 'furry' creeps her out a little bit... and she actually won't let anybody who is a furry come to our house... besides me, because I live there.

Sometimes it's not always a good thing for families to know about, at least if they're incapable of understanding it!

Heck, I can't even wear my tail around my younger cousins, because my aunt thinks that I'm 'confusing' them and screwing them up mentally or something... x3

I don't think that there's any good way to deal with this situation, if you ask me, it's kind of 'too far gone' to be worth trying to fix. Besides, I'm probably moving out this year (heck, I'm almost 20..) so I won't have to worry about it too much longer. Then I will start wearing the tail whenever I damn well please ;p

I've thought about it and i've decided on my own that I will tell my parents my mom wouldn't mind she understands alot and would probly like me any way I am. My dad might think a little different tho. But i'm sure he wouldn't mind as long as I take it slow with him. My family is a Catholic family my family likes everyone really if there gay or streight or whatever. My church youth group has a few gay Catholic kids and there my freinds along with anybody else. Everyone is still treated the same personally i'm not gay, I don't care if people are. Your probly right tho my parents might even like to go to a con someday with me. There really open minded to things, and anyways it's not real good to hide who you are inside. Just be yourself... ha how corny does that sound Smiling That would be cool If I could ever meet anyone here at that anthrocon. I might be able to go sooner then I think!

I've talked to my parents once in the past two years, why would I have mentioned it then?

But no, I live with my aunt, and she knows about it now. But it creeps her out alot. There's no way I'd wear my tail at home knowing that. It's not worth it. Besides, it's more fun to wear it in public and with friends anyway ;p

My aunt had a problem with the fact that I commissioned the tail mainly because of the fact that now a furry somewhere (i.e. the person who made it) has our address, because he had to ship it to me... ...she's pretty paranoid. Oh, and no furry can ever come to our house. Though she also didn't let someone stay here once because she had never met him, even though I'm very good friends with him - simply because I mainly got to know him online (but did actually meet him in person the first time!)

My aunt is just overall very paranoid and wary of anything overly strange. I got scolded for wearing the tail around my younger cousins because she said I was 'confusing' them, and I might be disturbing their uh, mental health or something. =/

and while i think it's a bit silly to think that a tail
will somehow screw up your cousin's future or something ,
You may want to consider not wearing it around them just for
the sake of avoiding akward questions and looks..

and if you wanna bring furries home .. well ..
just DON'T say they're furries ..

Let your aunt get used to your friends and when she is comfy with them tell her they're furries .. she'll get the point that furries are not all freaks ^^

I love you all ..

except for the people I don't like..

Well the only thing that's keeping me from saying anything about it at all is that I don't want to be treated any different then what I am now kids at school are very harsh to kids that don't fit in, And I dont want my parents to feel weird around me like they wouldnt understand me I know one day I will tell them but not right now. I just dont know when.(Wulfy)
