I've got some friends who are going to AnthroCon. They are under 18, have their parents' permission, signed and notarized slips, etc. Originally they had planned for their parents to go with them, but they're thinking that they may want to go on their own. The problem is they need someone who is 18 for the room. I already have my own room plans and reservations, and they already have their reservations. What would we have to do for me to get their room for them? Does the reservation have to be transfered? Can I just show up with them when they're getting it? Will I have to put it on my card? Can someone please explain what exactly I'm going to have to do to make this work? |

This is a good one for the hotel Liaison to explain. But I think I can cover the basics for you.
1: the person for whom the reservations are currently listed under must appear in person (furnishing ID) to claim the reservations.
2: The minimum age to rent a hotel room is 18. This is because that is the minimum age at which an individual can enter into a legal contract. (such as a rental agreement for a hotel room)
3: If you have 2 rooms under your name, and you intend to have the minors in the other room, you are legally responsible for anything that should happen in or to that room. You will be responsible for making sure no damage is done to the room, and that they are not involved in any illegal acts such as drinking (underage).
If they are found to be committing an illegal act while in a room reserved under your name, you can (and very likely will) be held legally responsible for providing unsupervised minors with a place to commit such an act.
For instance… if they should be found to be drinking (underage) in a room reserved under your name, YOU can be arrested and charged for it.
4: as Kage has said, You cannot transfer rooms in the Anthrocon room block. If you have a room you no longer desire to have under your name, you need to cancel the reservation so folks on the waiting list can be notified of the availability.
I would assume the reserved room is in the name of a parent. I would then say it is your best option to have that parent attend the convention and claim the room.
Of course each hotel is different, and I dont work there, so I would have to say your best bet would be to ask the hotel liaison.

Thank you for your reply. I was already well aware of your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd points, but I did not know you could not transfer rooms in the AC room block.

Good Morning All
Yes, the hotel must have a registered guest in each room that is 18 years or older.
Thank you!
