I figured General was more fitting for this topic.

Does anyone think it would be more prudent to have a sewing room set up at the con as back up for that occasional oops that might happen to your fursuit? I'm not sure what the stats are like on suiters who rip a stitch, or rip a hole in their suit each year at the con, but I thought I'd toss this out as a suggestion.

Speaking as a first time suiter who's making his suit all by himself, I'm going to be a bit on edge at the con because I don't want my suit to tear as punishment for actually having a great time (last year, Murphy and his stupid laws punished me for having a good time by breaking the cam shaft in my car in half on the way down and then costing me about $4500 in engine repairs later).

I'm not even sure if fursuiters actually bring down their own sewing machines or stitching kit with them for just such an occasion. Maybe if that's the case and there's no need for setting up a whole room or sectioning off an area in the headless lunge, fursuiters could opt to post here saying they will be bringing the above and wouldn't mind lending a helpful paw to anyone just incase.

(to any mechanically inclined furs on here, you could probably back me up in saying that a cam shaft is NOT that easy to break).

This is just a suggestion, but Anthrocon provides headless lounges for the fursuiters to take breaks every now and then, and I would assume that these designations would be great places to do some emergency suit-patching or mending.

Though your idea I feel has some merit to it.

I recommend the following:

#1: Contact the hotel and ask them if it is okay for you to operate a sewing machine in your room. If so, offer use of your sewing machine to those who might need it! A note or flyer in the headless lounge would be an excellent thing.

#2: The idea of a sewing machine/repair station has merit, but the place for that would assuredly be inside the headless lounge. I don't think a separate convention room would be necessary.

#3: Pet the mongoose.

#4: The Fursuit forum would be a better place for this discussion, as you might find if others do bring repair kits and how usual suit accidents are.

The staff doesn't have the equipment to furnish a sewing machine and supplies ourselves, but if you are so inclined to bring such objects with you, there are two headless lounges and either place would be a great spot to set up a quick fix zone for fursuits.

I think most seasoned fursuiters bring the basics to make repairs. I will have needle, thread, glue gun, scissors, scrap fur, velcro, acrylic paint and brushes for sure. I will probably bring my sewing machine but will leave it in my van. If you take a good look at your suit each time you take it off, you should be able to catch problems before they require a sewing machine.

Hey would you mind sharing any of that for just such an occasion? The reason I brought it up as a suggestion was for fur suiters who might end up not bringing any of that for whatever reason ie: they forgot it at home, it got sent to Hawaii with some of their luggage, they overlooked the fact that accidents can happen.

Myself, well I prefer to work with a sewing machine and everything I do is with a machine. So I don't want to pack up my kit (machine, soddering iron, glue, extra fabric etc.) and put it in my luggage because I'll need to minimize the luggage weight load when I get on the plane and I know that if I just buy the hand stitching stuff, I won't be using it anyways during the time that I sew the stuff that I sew, which is a lot thicker than fur fabric, so I consider it an unjustifiable business expense Smiling

If you're cool with sharing it, would you want to hook up at the con to trade room numbers?

If not then hey no worries as I'm sure things'll be alright, but just incase.
